Back when most games ended 6-4 a 'bad bounce' could be recovered from. It's 10% of scoring.
Last night a 'bad bouce' (blown tire) cost UNO a game. It was 20% of scoring in that 3-2 game.

Basically, the uncontrollable's effect on outcomes has doubled (10% -> 20%) in the last few decades, and I'd say to the detriment of the better teams.

The lower scoring environment is so underappreciated. Shrink the goalie pads, stat!!

I cannot wait to see the camera angles for our regional... I can't imagine with how small the rink is that there would be many options. I hope I'm wrong.

ESPN usually does a good job at the technical aspects of its productions.

But we'll see how it looks at 4pm CT for WMU v Michigan State.

  3. Michigan Tech v BC at 1pm CT

MTU's most important player might be the referees. Tech needs to pound BC without taking penalties, while Pietila stands on his head.

  4. David Carle really wants to move the regional games to campus sites. I'm guessing if DU loses today as a #1 seed playing a de facto road game across the country, Carle will be on fire regarding this issue.

    Go UMass.

Not sure if it was reported. Team had it as "undisclosed" but he was sick. Sorry, I thought that was pretty well known.

No worries. The last I had heard was speculation that he was dealing with a nagging injury.

In any case, I'm hoping Ludvig is 100% on Friday. We're gonna need him at his best for the next four games.

  6. Here's a goalie comp between the presumed starting goalies, Barczewski and Persson:

    Barczewski, 25 yo, Gr, 34 Games, 2.83 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SH

    Persson, 24 yo, Sr, 33 Games, 2.47 GAA, .906 SV%, 5 SH

IMO, they're pretty similar except for the accent (Barczewski is from Missouri). They're both about the same age, they're both about the same size, they both have a lot of college experience, they're both at their second school, they both have similar numbers, and they've both been good-but-not-great. (Nationally, the median team SV% this season was almost exactly .900. and the median GAA was almost exactly 3.00.)

The biggest question around the goaltenders appears to be the mystery surrounding Ludvig and his situation.

If that’s the case I don’t know why they would have him around the team as much as he’s been.

That's the hole in the illness theory for sure.
