  1. Let's see.

    1. Prpich sits out 2nd period. Yup. You play stupid hockey, you don't play.

    2. Finley is on thin ice. So is Zajac.

    DISCIPLINE DISCIPLINE DISCIPLINE DISCIPLINE!!!!!!!!

The Gophers are yapping. If you had dominated like they have this season, wouldn't you? SKATE AWAY!

Play stupid hockey: YOU WILL LOSE GUARANTEED.

Better period than last night but seriously, these penalties are basically the Sioux players' way of saying "GO GOPHERS!!!"

    I agree 100%.

  2. I must be nervous for the game as I have jammed down about 6 beers in the last 1 1/2 hours. Probably would be smart on my part if I did not post any more tonight as the "beer factor" may cause me to say (post) things I really don't mean.

Go Sioux - as someone said in a previous post, it really can't get any worse than last night.

  3. Well, ok...but only if they shoot to wound, not kill. Don't want the action on the ice to be affected after all.

I think they should shoot all 'inappropriate standers'. Oh, could they shoot the moron who sits behind me the one that thinks his shrill whistle actually has an affect on the game? Aw what the heck, I'll shoot him myself. :D

You wouldn't sit in section 114 would you? Not that I am the whistler, we just have one near our seats as well.

  4. II don't have a problem with the students standing, cheering, holding up signs, profanity etc. But the profanity does offend many including some students. Some one posted to leave your kids home. Another lame statement obviously made by someone who did not grow up in a hockey dominated area like GF.

Work together. Go to the meeting, state your position as students, offer solutions and COMPROMISE!!

Went back and found this where you say you don't mind the students standing and in another post you talk about not watching someboy's butt. So which is it do you or don't you mind the students that stand?

As for your statement of COMPROMISE - I believe that is what I have been saying all day today.

  5. It's not a matter of money. The folks who pay thousands of dollars for a suite, either as a personal or business expenditure, are not going to take a cut in cost vs seeing the game.

Believe it or not, there are suite holders who are as die hard fans as the students and maybe the clients/family/friends that they bring to the suite don't all watch the game, but they pay for the privilege; even if it's only Granma who wants to see the game, she should be able to.

So it sounds like compromise is not in your vocabulary? There has got to be some middle ground to appease both sides of the issue. Do you have any ideas for meeting eveyones needs or is it smiply all or none?

  6. Let's see, hmmm, standing and obstructing the view of the people sitting behind you and beside you may be seen as a big friggin' deal to those folk, ya think?

No cupholders? :D When were they removed? Any special reason they were taken out?

It is a hockey game and in the course of the game people will stand. Watch any ESPN covered sports coverage of college games and the students stand. It generates energy that in turn creates or should create a home court advantage ala Duke Basketball and other numerous teams. This is were I think compromise can come into play - offer some sort of discount for those folks in those suites as they may need to stand more than normal. OF course that will go against the conventional wisdom of this forum as that would mean less in $$$'s for the Ralph.

  7. Of course acceptable behavior can be compromised. You can't just expect people to meet the minimal standards of public behavior for no reason at all. It's totally unrealistic. You can't expect people to be courteous of one another just for the heck of it. What kind of fool thinks like that?

If students don't get something out of the deal, they have every right to continue their classless behavior. That's just how it works. It's not their fault that nobody's listening to them. It's not their fault that they have no incentive to treat others as they want to be treated.

In fact, there's no reason this principle can't be applied in other areas of life. Whether it's a library, movie theater, bar, play, concert or any other public place or event, nobody should have to conform to any standard of public behavior if they don't get something out of it in return. It's a brilliant concept!

I know that I am committing SIOUXSPORTS.com forum suicide because I am questioning the almighty PCM but please let me know what it is that the students are doing that is SO TERRIBLE during games. I already noted in a previous thread that I do feel they need to address the F-bombs. But what else is really so bad? I sit in the arena and don't see anything that is that BAD that we are comparing the Ralph to the chaos exhibited at the New Orleans Superdome after the hurricane. Maybe I am missing something but outside of the F-bomb I just ain't getting where the students are getting such a bum rap. Please share your infinite wisdom with me.

  8. Why, yes, I probably do need a nap. Thank you for reminding me. And I'll take my meds as Diggler suggested. That might be a good idea, too.

But I should warn you that if I do those things, I might start disagreeing with you again. Woudln't you rather have me on your side? I think that I'm doing your cause a lot of good.

My cause - please tell me what you are interpretting as my cause. All I am saying is admin and the students need to work together to help meet the common good - what is so wrong with that? Is compromise such an awful word?

  9. That's right. Screw the administration. Who do they think they are? Nobody should have to follow any standards. There's no such thing as appropriate social behavior in public, especially at a hockey game.

Not what I am saying PCM - I am suggesting that admin needs to work with the students as opposed to working against the students.

  10. Feeling's pretty mutual than.

And, I just watched it over. Phil touched the puck with 2.8 seconds left, and shot it into the stands with 1.4 seconds left, so the game was not over.

If the game was not over then I think it is a different story. My opinion would be that for all practical purposes the game was over with the Sioux getting their butts kicked and it appeared from my perspective that Lammy's actions were out of frustration. That being said, I can understand the argument that you need to be aware of what is going on when there is still time left in the game.

On a completely unrelated note and to try and mend our differences, My wife and I went to the Rivera Maya a year ago and had a blast. What is the story on any hurricane damage to the area that you will be visiting?

  11. That's what I was asking. People were saying it was so much worse because it happened when the game was over. I wanted to know if it would be such a big deal if it had been done with a second left in the game.

Perhaps I am wrong but I thought that if the goalie fires it into the crowd during play that it was a delay of game penalty. Not sure so I would like some clarification.

  12. It wasn't a 100mph+ slapshot.

I can't believe some of you people are getting so worked up over this. Go get worked up over something worthwhile......like ending AIDS or poverty.

It will make you feel better about yourself and actually do some good, rather than causing a heart attack.

I bring my small children to games all the time. You run the risk of getting hit by pucks all the time.

Even when the game is over?

  13. It wasn't like it was ten minutes after the game is was seconds.......

Exactly my point - THE GAME WAS OVER and many people were in the process of exiting the arena. Fortunately the person who caught the puck was still paying attention. If it would have been you in the stands and got plunked in the melon, you would be singing an entirely different verse.

What Phil did was out of frustration and I realize their was no intent to injure but that does not excuse himself from his actions.

  14. Diggler's right.

It's not a big deal. The guy that got the puck was happy. End of story.

That is a bunch of b.s. - it could have had a different ending and thankfully no one was hurt. Lammy should have known better and that is the bottom line. If a gooopher player would have done something similar, this board would have been piling on the replies of how inappropriate the players actions were. Matter of fact, Irmen grabbed his jersey when he scored in GF and we had a long debate as to his actions which had much less of a potential effect as to Phil's.

  15. Pay attention then. The player is doing the exact same thing and in both situations he certainly isn't attempting to injure anyone. I don't care who does it though or when he does it, I have big worries in my life then something like this. Sure Phil shouldn't have done it, but who cares?

If it would have hit your child or girlfirend, wife or whatever, I think you would have cared. Phil should have shown more self-restraint. Thankfully, no one got hurt and I am Phil wishes he could take it back.

  16. Just some random thoughts from a someone who grew up in GF going to every game possible, a former UND student and now live about 300 miles from Grand Forks and go to almost every home game and some road games:

    (1) The best crowds I remeber were back in the 70's with the Farce - not everything they did was politically correct but in most instances it WAS very funny and got people involved in the game. The student section is the bigggest asset to our team and creating a home ice advantage. Give that section some latitude when it comes to standing and do not have someone calling out the students every time one of them stand ups. It is a hockey game not the theater.

    (2) I think the adminstration only antagonizes the situation by continually "beating up the students" with the vulgatiry issue by calling all of the students out. I wish the obsenities did not occur but I even find myself appologizing to the folks in front of me some of the time when something accidently slips out. If it offends you, ask the person or persons next to you from refraining from using that sort of language.

    (3) I don't think the response of "if you don't like it don't go" is appropriate. We all have our own interest and expectations of what the games will provide. I am not near the student section with my seating but quite frankly was a bit suprised to hear of this letter going out as I have not noticed anything that I would consider over the top with the exception of some obsenities.

    (4) I like to have a beer at the game and don't like the idea of getting rid of the suds just because a few people like to over indulge and ruin it for the 98% of the people that enjoy a couple of beers. Be accountable for your own actions.

Enough for now but my fear is that the students might as well bring some of their textbooks to the game because the Ralph will be as quiet as the library. There has got to be a happy medium and I think administration has to show some latitude and compromise with the students as oppossed to dictate to the students.

Thanks for your time and sorry so lengthy.

  17. Not trying to be nit-picky here, but Zajac is averging a point a game, not bad considering that's second on the team in scoring. He also is an unbelieveable face-off man, by far the most dependable man for when you need a face-off one for this team, this year. Maybe he's not doing high-light reel moves, but he does a lot of the little things I believe that can unnoticed to the un-trained eye. Just my opinion though.

Having played hockey and coached hockey, I don't buy the un-trained eye thing. I realize Zajac is having an overall good year but like my post said, I expected a monster year where he would really break out and be the offensive spark-plug for this team, especially after seeing him dominate in the Frozed Four last year. I did not mean it as a knock on him.

  18. I really thought that Zajaz was going to have a monster year this year and I just don't notice him doing anything that great on the ice but I guess that could be said for about everyone in the green tonight except Phil.
