Oh my Ra, this needs to be cross posted and go viral . . . best idea for a fighting hawks logo possible. If they roll with a Ra inspired fighting hawk, they can take all my money and we will replace the greatest logo in sports with the next greatest logo in sports. This would honestly save the entire debacle for me (short of keeping the nickname, rolling as just North Dakota, this is the best possible solution).

I told my friends on the way to Tampa... if UND wins #8, I don't care if everyone leaves.  They've earned it.

I told my friends that if the Sioux won, I would not care about the next year or so or any of my other sports teams for a season. Vikings missed a field goal . . . don't care. Blue Jackets crapped the bed, don't care. Didn't get as big of a raise as I wanted, no big deal!

Other choices would be Bowling Green, Ferris State?

I would love to see Bowling Green. puts them close to Miami (I would like to see them get a close rival) and not soooooooo far from Western Michigan. Haven't been there in a few years, but it was a fun little arena too.

It's still one of the best arenas in the world, amateur or pro.  You're splitting hairs with your points.  Amalie Arena holds 8,000 more people then The Ralph so of course the hallways are going to be wider. Also, I've never heard of a hallway with marble floors being called plain jane before, thanks for the laugh

They've updated resolution on the scoreboard and the electronic strip separating the lower and upper bowl. They've updated the locker room and player areas to be nicer than the majority of NHL rinks.  The seats are still the most comfortable you'll sit in at any rink. I think you may be looking for things that aren't there.  Yes, the light show is a bit dated but I'm more interested in things that will get recruits to play hockey here. I loved the Amalie Arena light show but that's something you install to get butts in seats, the ralph already is sold out for the majority of games.

If you want a show, you go to Cleveland. I have been to a Monsters game and (unfortunately) a Cavs game because the Blue Jackets gave me free tickets. Their projection is insane, similar to Tampas but I don't think Tampas was 3D . . . or was it?

How long ago did  the Albatross fold?

I don't know, I didn't even ever hear about the place and never went. I love Suite 49 when that was there, but not a good location except for game days and I think that type of restaurant was a little too soon for Grand Forks' Marilyn Hagerty tastes.

I beg to differ, considering EVERY bowl game blew out the NCAA Hockey championship game when you go by viewership numbers. College hockey is about the 12th most popular sport in college athletics (even that might be generous)...people just don't care outside of its traditional footprint. Heck, the overwhelming majority of people in the traditional footprint of college hockey don't even care. It's a tough pill to swallow being from the most hockey crazed region in the United States, but it's true.

I didn't mean about viewership or revenue .  .  . I mean pride and reverance. I would be a lot more proud to be a top 8 hockey team in a tournament with all the best teams than a top 30 football team that may (or may not) have even played a top team from one of the top conferences. The Pac12 has to be the what (I don't follow too closely) 3rd or 4th best conference and they are coming in around third place in a good year.

Well I don't mind all the bowls because it means more college football (which I'm obviously a fan of).  ASU did only win 6 games last year but like I said it was a down year for them (they had two 10 win seasons in a row before that) and they should do a little better than that this year.  My point was that they aren't actually some scrub school at football either and that football is actually a big deal there.

    then 8-5, then 6-7, then 6-6, then 4-8, then 5-7

I think you are underselling their football team a little bit.  They have won the PAC12 in the past decade (2007) and they were in the Sun Bowl (3rd best team in PAC12/ACC) just 2 years ago.  They have made a bowl game each of the last 5 years and even though they had a down year last year they do seem to be in a pretty good situation going forward.

Our ideas of major bowls may differ. The Ag school would have had a chance of beating them the last five years and probably would have at least once. Though being consistently in the top three of the PAC12 is nothing to scoff at, there are a heap of teams on top of the mountain that they will never top. Some years, they are maybe squeaking in the top 20. Even if they are considered major bowls, I think winning a game or two in the national hockey tournament would look really good stacked up to the Holiday/Cactus/Sun/etc Bowl

The bridges in GF over the Red are what, all within 1.5 miles max or so of each other and near downtown GF?  The newest one being built approx 50 years ago (Point Bridge) I think?  But 50 years ago there were hardly any folks residing outside that 1.5 mile length (I suppose south to maybe 17th Ave at most?).  With south development in GF having extended way beyond 17th Ave in the last 25 - 35 years there needs to be a more southern bridge say at 32nd or even further south with the future in mind.  I live on the Point and to get to 32nd shopping area it's damn near a 15 min drive (yeah, I'm whining!) to get there for just a short distance as the "crow flies".  Yes, traffic at 32nd or where ever would increase but traffic flow in the residential area of GF near the Point Bridge is quite busy and I'm sure those folks wouldn't mind some relief.

If they put a bridge from 32nd Ave S to 190th St SW, I would be dancin' Nancies. Not as good, but even 47th to 200 would work if you wanted to diffuse some traffic from 32nd.

Another possible issue, Vikings play Detroit at noon on Sunday in Minneapolis

That sounds like a good time. Sioux-Gophers Friday night, United FC NASL championship semifinal game on Saturday, Vikings game Sunday afternoon, Sioux-Gophers Sunday night. Add in some Hola Arepa and you have yourself a weekend.

Huh?  If you are trying to argue with yourself, have at it.

You are proving my point as to why they don't want to have them competing against each other.  Why would they?

I'm not arguing with everyone? I was just saying that you can't get a completely clear assessment of value based solely on attendance (or solely on price for that matter, they work hand in hand to some degree). But yeah, obviously they don't want them competing. They want to sell out both and probably are thinking about logistics a little too.

All B1G Hockey bashing aside, you really can't understand from a business perspective why they wouldn't want to maximize their potential?

Their "sucky" B1G football squad averages 50k in paid attendance.

EDIT:  Furthermore, I would say they are giving UND and their own hockey squad a ton of credit by saying they don't want the hockey game to affect their football attendance and vice versa.

Ah yes, but what are the prices of the tickets going to be for the hockey game v the football game.

I agree they are definitely a better fit talent wise for the WCHA, but being so close to Denver the NCHC makes sense.   I'd like the NCHC to add a minimum of 2 teams, ideally 4.   My ideal NCHC would be:

UND, Denver, SCSU, West Mich, Miami, UMD, CC, Omaha........(bring back old WCHA rivals) Minn State, Mich Tech, Bemidji State....   Air Force (perfect fit with CO rivals).

I just don't see how Arizona State (having no arena from my understanding) and no tradition or history is something that the NCHC wants to add. Why not add historical rivals that have tradition and make sense travel wise.

I think ASU is too easy to get to for UND and Denver to turn down, plus add in the bigger name. Hockey may not be number one at ASU, but with Arizona's attempts to really hold on to the 'yotes and hockey growing in Arizona (especially due to northern alumni) I think it does make sense. I also don't think it is unreasonable to think that ASU could make the NCAA hockey tournament in several years, even in the NCHC. And let's be honest, they are never sniffing the FBS playoff and major bowl games are doubtful. The basketball team would be lucky to crack the sweet 16, even their baseball team has fallen off. They WANT hockey to succeed.

As for adding other schools, we need to get Bowling Green or somebody for Miami since I don't see Ohio University or the Bearcats going D1 anytime soon.

Another Michiganish team would be nice for WMU.

I'm open for discussion on the fourth team or waiting to see who adds in the next couple years.

For him to take this long to make a decision, makes me think he thought loooooong and hard about leaving.

If I was in his shoes and he had a good offer, I would have signed. Being undrafted, even a small drop-off next year could hurt.

He's playing amazing right now!  2nd scorer (USA's Yamamoto) has 9 pts compared to his 14, but USA has played one less game until tonight.
Honestly, if Schmaltz stays and Jost lives up to expectations, that line could be as fun to watch as last year's CBS line.

I barely noticed Jost vs USA. The Finn though, he looked unreal. Hopefully the Blue Jackets get him!

I'd be fine with them ripping apart the East next season and then we take them down in the title game like what happened with QU this year.  :)

They have three to five top picks. We have two top picks that have proven themselves and one more that should be alright. Fresh D is a steeper curve, so I think we got the advantage if schmaltz and Ladue come back. If they don't, itsq a coin flip but we will be battle tested come tourney time while they've been feasting on (mostly) cupcakes. Ooooh and LJ!

I never said I wanted him replaced, I just wanted one of his teams to get over the hump and hang another green banner. But even that is too negative for some people on this forum.

I am about on this boat. I don't fault Hak or hold anything against him and do not think he ever really "choked." All the stars just didn't quite align but only an epic talent can do what he was able to do over the course of his career. That being said, I thought it was about time for a change but couldn't find it in myself to say Hakstol should be fired.

In my mind, the change was the most graceful exit that could have ever happened. He wasn't fired, he got to move on (and up even), and we got the little change in pace that we needed (and all the haters cried for). I was so happy that we got to move on without firing Hakstol and I am happy that we won while his fingerprints were still all over the team. Absolutely perfect.

I wouldn't say the other team was the better team in any of those games. All Michigan had to do was play deffence and Hak didn't want to stop doing the dump and chase even thought it clearly wasn't working. Minnesota beat us cuz the Sioux decided the period was over for those .6 seconds. And I'm not going to say BU was the better team last year. And Denver this year, it's pretty hard to get the puck out of the zone when the team is doing everything in there power to keep it in including things that shouldv been called but were "missed". And Quinnipiac hadnt played a team like the Sioux the whole year. So I'm not going to say any of those teams were the better teams because I don't thing they were. This year was for the SIOUX and they proved it, plain and simple!

What? At the very least, I would say that we did completely outplay Michigan and Hunwick won them the game. The other arguments I can see both sides.

Guessing Anaheim wanted him to develop with them instead of UND. He didn't seem to progress much from last year to this year. UND obviously has a history of developing players but maybe it wasn't working for KT.

Maybe he chose Utah over school? $600 a week to play hockey, if you get housing and a per diem for travel is . . . . not a bad life until you work your way up. Make it to the A and you have yourself a living.
