Duke and Kansas both have players with 3 star ratings...your false narrative that they become 4 and 5 stars after they get the offer is bogus....or every signed player at a blue blood school would be a top 100 plus 5/4 star  kid...Wrong about Graham was 2 star as a Sr   signed with App St...grew taller got better  went  to prep school ...ratings and interest soared rivals closed 37 espn  a lower end 4*

i am probably the biggest ku basketball fan on the planet. i know what happened.

10 years ago, it seemed clear to me they disliked the USA but really hated the Russians (aka Soviets, the Red Army and all that history).   In the last decade, we've moved up.   And 10 years from now, they will be cheering for Russia ...

will there be a difference in 10 years :)

Maybe it happens more in football

nah it happens a lot in basketball. devonte graham went from a 2 star to a top 30 guy when he committed to kansas (technically it was before but everyone knew he was committing)

or you can look at verbal commits ...and see recruit ratings and offer lists

after the top 100 these kids are mostly the same, and i'm not going to put any stock in rankings of kids when the recruiting services watch the non elite guys like twice per year.

does not get Weber or Montana talent....never get grad transfer talent, almost  gets D1 transfers

we will have to agree to disagree on not getting weber or montana talent. maybe not year in and year out like they do, but often enough to where they should be competing every year.

Have seen you praise their defense several times.  Not quite sure why, though?  It's definitely not consistent defense.

i dont know if praise is the right word, and agree it isn't consistent, but they've only finished lower than 5th in the league once and are usually even better than that (though like i said the great west stats should be taken with a grain of salt)

I hope Klieman gets it for the entertainment value in Fargo.  But I think it's a stretch.

that would be such a bad hire for the gophers, which means i wouldn't count it out

I agree. Although I do really like the NHL's development model by playing a year in the AHL.  It's such a good league.  However, if you are under the legal age to drink a beer in most cities, I would stick around a play another year of college puck.  Unless a player is beyond elite I guess (I am talking about those underagers that are playing in the NHL full time).  At least when a player leaves after their junior year they can go out with the boys (whether they are in the NHL or AHL). 20 is so young in the grand scheme of things.

i dont think schmaltz had anything to gain by coming back another year. playing in the AHL is fine for a kid his age who has already mastered college hockey

  9. The big sky is the 27th ranked conference at KenPom. It was 26th last year. As I looked at it yesterday (shameless plug alert), UND is the best team in the league but not by any significant margin. The problem with the league is it looks like it's going to be tough to avoid a play in game unless there are a lot of upsets in conference tournaments (long way to go before that obviously)

22 extra scholarship athletes is certainly an advantage.

These debates have been going on for years, based on the outcomes of a lot of FCS vs FBS games, most years the top 5 in FCS would rank somewhere from 35-50 if they were ranked in the FBS polls. On a really good year(see NDSU 2013) I'd take the FCS champion against anyone outside of the top 20 on a neutral field.

i can never figure out if these are sarcasm or not

They don't pass the eye test on d though. Every time I see them play there are multiple inexcusable defensive breakdowns. Worst of all is boxing out for rebounds.

the numbers don't agree with you at all on that though.

Which assistant is responsible for sucking at coaching defense?

their defense has been fine for the most part. 3rd in the big sky last year, 9th in 2015 (which was the year he should have gotten fired to be honest), 5th in 2014, 3rd in 2013. They were also 2nd in the great west their last two years there but i don't really think great west stats are worth the paper they are printed on

sure with geno taunting the fans  last time out  plus revenge angle...that NDSU will be out for blood..NDSU plays a solid mid major team in UC Davis thursday night plus seales being ok will help...NDSU retains 4 of top 6 scorers from NCAA  tourney team that played NCAA 2 seed and elite 8 Gonzaga  in a very competitive game  in 2015...they have players and pride .

UC Davis sucks so i dont think that will change my opinion of NDSU. Looks like UND is currently 67 percent to win at KenPom which seems about right. The two teams are pretty equal I think.

what's everyones take on billy brown? better upside than mcdermott?  should have redshirted?  seemed to be able to move his feet decently tonight but had an ugly airball?

i think he will end up being good. i'd prefer everyone at this level redshirt but he looks like he will be a more well rounded player than adam. probably not as good of a shooter.

Looked like UND made a conscious decision to not double Werner for the majority of the game even after he started rolling. Guessing the thought process was that it was better to take your chances on Werner cooling down than sending a double team down on him and leaving one of their shooters open, giving them a chance to start rolling which would have given NDSU a much better chance to get back in the game.

probably a good plan. i didn't have a problem with them playing Shanks behind him and making him shoot over the top.
