He's sharing that slice

Nyga rd was born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1943, and came to Canada in 1952 with his parents Eeli and Hilkka. They worked in a bakery and later moved to Winnipeg.

Nygard, who graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1964, bought into a garment manufacturing company in 1967 with $8,000 he borrowed and his life savings. A few years later, he owned the company.

Last year, Nygard was listed in 70th place with a net worth of $817 million in Canadian Business magazine's annual Rich 100 list. He was inducted into the North Dakota Entrepreneur Hall of Fame in 2004.

And it's the clothes that Nygard produces, under the banners Alia, Bianca and Tanjay, that are helping charitable organizations that assist women in shelters, with cancer, in crisis, and to get a job.

It's part of Nygard's and his company's goal of donating $500,000 worth of clothing annually to women across the country through his company's Nygard for Life charitable program.
