forecheck
There was a lot of joking around once again tonight. The fans thought the Niagara series was one of the most exciting series they've seen in awhile, and CB says this is an exciting team. Mentions the talent of the freshmen in the league. CB thought the HE ref made some interesting calls, but he thinks that he did a good job. D. Hale's penalty ended up being a spark for the team. Tim joked about how after Spiewak got his SHG, Jason mentioned he couldn't believe he was out there still, because he was so tired he could hardly breathe. Then next thing you know, the puck is on his stick and scores a shortie. CB said they weren't that tired, and if they were, then they need to do some more conditioning. Notermann was probably just excited about Spiewak's goal. (A bit tongue in cheek, I think.) He did mention though that those two need to be on ice during the PK because of their experience and skill on the PK. CB says he made some mistakes during Friday's game, thinking that after the two SHG, he put some new players on the ice that he thought could use that for imagery, and they got scored on right away. Didn't say who that line was, though. CB didn't even realize Bochenski had a hat trick on Friday. Joked about how he gets mad about broken sticks because of the outrageous price, and after Bochenski shot his rocket of a goal Friday night, Hakstol looked over at CB and said, "That's why we have those sticks." Then they started talking about the prices and materials of hockey sticks, and they joked about how for the defensemen, a good old fashioned wooden stick would do just fine...the heavier the better for hacking people down. Coaches don't send videos out in NC games, so he doesn't know much about Princeton and Yale, but they're typical Ivy League schools, and they love to skate. Another game where, if we beat these teams this weekend, and they end up doing good in the conference, even if we don't win our league, we can still get a bid for the NCAA tourney. Talked about how UND moved up a few spots on the polls just for beating Niagara, so every win helps. CB thinks we can do better than 5th in the league, but we still lost a lot of talent from last year. You have to win a minimum of 20 games and be over .500 to get a bid. Last year our own ice hurt us, more talk about the bad ice last year. Again talked about how he gave Brandt another chance last Saturday to give him some confidence, and it backfired on him. Now Siembida is playing on Friday, and he'll make the decision after that as to who plays in goal on Saturday. Brandt is having a good week at practice, and he feels bad about a few of the goals he let in against Niagara that he thinks he should have had. CB says how goaltending is so hard because he was pretty much embarassed in front of the whole hockey community, and it's tough on goalies when you pull them, but sometimes it's something you need to do. Mentioned some names like Belfour and how they hatebeing pulled in a game. CB mentioned that Lucia said on his show that they don't have to build their whole team around one freshman, because they have enough talent spread out on the team. CB thinks that Spiewak, Notermann, and Lundbohm are playing well and getting their chances, though, and R. Hale, McMahon and Genoway are getting in there. Then they talked about the fact that the Sioux have had a dominant line quite often in the past years, and it's worked (Lee, Goren, Bayda....Panzer, Lundbohm, Bayda). Everyone said "beat the Panzer line, and you beat UND" in the 2001 season, and every team tried to shut that line down, but it didn't work until the overtime of the national championship. *So basically, if it ain't broke, why fix it?* Parise is playing great, 5 points in a weekend again, and the other teams are going to continue to shadow him. He practices every day like it's a game. The whole town is buzzing about Parise, and Parise is loving it. But he doesn't have an arrogant bone in his body, he just goes with it and laughs a lot. He's not the "Golden Boy" though, he'll take his stick and go after you, and he takes his share in practice from his teammates. Give Bochenski credit, he's playing on the off wing. CB wishes he could have seen Bayda on a line with Parise and either Fylling or Bochenski. Tim talks about how he's never seen such excitement about one player before. CB said he's been very well-coached, JP is a great coach. Zach was always the perfect son, did what he was told on the ice, and just went out there and played, always laughing and with a good attitude. Tim said he thinks he brings the level of the whole team up, and he keeps Bochenski interested. He thought last year Brandon got bored at times, but this year, he knows every time he steps out on the ice with Parise, he has a chance to score. That's just how Bochenski is, he likes to score goals. He makes Lundbohm better because Lundbohm has some offensive ability too, and he doesn't want to be shown up by an 18-year-old, he wants to keep up in scoring. I thought that was kind of funny. Notermann and Spiewak both have a lot of talent, and CB thinks they're both going to have a 20 goal season. Poor Jason hit so many pipes last year, and with a little luck, his 8 goals turns into 20 goals and he gets a little more attention. He really sounded impressed with these two. Our defensemen are strictly defensive-minded defensemen, but they're all playing great. It doesn't matter if 5'11" Leinweber is out or 6'3" Greene is out, they are all playing solidly. SCSU has some forwards playing D cuz of some ineligibility, but they can talk about them next week. Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I was just typing along as I listened. The Dude
Makes sense, thanks again for posting this on here for us fans that can't listen ourselves. Good comments by CB, sounds like he's excited about the team but trying not to get his hopes up too high either because he knows that they are still young. Although after what they've shown us so far it's hard not to get excited!!! Let's go Sioux, get two wins out East!

DamStrait
Let me also add my thanks. While I do appreciate the effort of those who can listen when they summarize the show, I wonder why it's not possible for those of us outside GF to hear the coaches' show over the internet? Is it a matter of just having someone at the alumni association 'flip the switch'? If not, would it be possible to have the show cached so that it could be downloaded and listened to in its entirety after it is broadcast locally? Do any of you regulars know the answers? Downloading the show after the fact may be the best solution as it would allow us to replay it at our convenience and could also be edited to ensure that none of us illegaly listen to music .
