Proposed DI membership stands

If this change holds, a school like Moorhead State, or Simon Fraser, of UBC would not be allowed to move up in hockey.

The new rules would also have prevented Utah Valley State and Houston Baptist from moving up, as were not DII members before becoming DI.

In addition, an entrance fee and minimum scholarship limits would be imposed.

I'm not sure why DI is so concerned about school moving into the division from outside the NCAA. Outside of Oklahoma City University, who I know has looked at it, are there any more NAIA or JUCO schools out there that could even pull this off? Seems like a non issue to me.

What will be a big deal is what they come up with for a potential fee structure for schools wanting to moving from D-II in to D-I. If set high enough and tied in with mandatory conference affiliation, it will be a deal breaker for many schools that would consider the jump.

Didn't someone say a while back that just as NDSU and SDSU were tired of the watering down of DII with Upper Iowas, Texas and Florida would soon tire of the watering down of DI? (Who was that guy? He must be really smart. )

Welcome to the first strike by the BCS conferences.
