Prep football: Metro's edge slices Outstate

It looks like a couple of future Sioux had a good game yesterday...

Both teams only practiced for one week at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, but Metro quarterback Blair Townsend of Coon Rapids took to the Metro's spread offense quickly. He threw three touchdowns for the Metro and was named its offensive MVP.

"Everything was crisp," said Townsend, who is headed to the University of North Dakota as a wide receiver. "We just tried to do the same things we did in practice. We were going with the spread offense with four receivers all the time. We knew we were going to pass on them."

The Metro eventually punched it home on a 1-yard touchdown run by Cretin-Derham Hall running back Marcus Binns with 5:03 to go in the first to make it 14-0.

From the same article:

Smith had another miscue after the Outstate's Damon Andrews picked off a pass by Metro quarterback James Peterson right at the beginning of the second.

Not that I don't trust the coaching staff's decision to start Townsend off as a receiver, but between his amazing senior year passing numbers and his performance at this all-star game, he sure seems like he could play quarterback. On the other hand, the need at receiver seems considerably greater than at quarterback.
