No, you don't have to pay. But yes, it is unnecessarily complicated.

After following this link (which is the most direct I can figure out how to link), you choose the Live Events tab and click the game. It often claims to be premium, but it's not. I've found that sometimes I need to login again in the left-hand media pane, or click play under the media pane to get it working.
