  1. I personally agree with 99% of what #MACtion is presenting! He or she has become the so called out of town expert. Many of his points have been brought out by others, but his perspective has helped clarify several important issues. The only thing I don't feel will happen in large measure is that the MAC would ever become a destination conference for any of the Dakota Schools. Basically Buffalo is the only peer institution in the whole league. All of this is just my opinion of course.

  2. In 2001 UND was runners up in hockey, and DII NC in football. It takes more than just money to be successful at both at the same time. It takes the right players and coaches. I think UND could be successful in the MAC, I'm not talking about winning the dance, beating Alabama for a NC, but be respectable with the right personnel in charge, without dropping hockey or dumping a sh-t load of money into football.

Sounds like you are chasing your tail. IMO!

  3. North Dakota

There is no GAAP for individual public schools that I'm aware of except for some state rules like in Virginia where the marching band, cheerleading expenses etc.. must be included in athletic budgets where most place else don't include that, but we can get an idea from the data. This information filed says "revenue" but it is really a small number of ticket sales for football and basketball and then subsidy and student fees plugging the hole to make up the rest of the "revenue". UND hockey (NCHC) falls into the "other revenue except football and basketball" and represents $4 million which is probably true ticket revenue (10,000 average fans per game x $30 ticket x home games roughy $4 million). The other $6.5 million not allocated to a sport is likely capital buildings and maintenance etc... that is likely related to the Ralph and hockey stuff in the majority.

The $1 million for basketball and $3 million for football is typical for and related to Big Sky and is much lower that typical MAC which is $3 million for basketball and $7 million for football. Half of UND's athletic budget is going toward Hockey.

That point had been made in general before. You did an excellent job of providing the specifics. These message boards often have information that is very incomplete or in some cases are complete misrepresentations. Thank you for providing some statistical information.

  4. oh and by the way remember we are in different conferences, so really at this point the rival games are for pride only. Conference records are what matter most.

You must work for the FOX network because your statements are fair and balanced! Your handle should be O'Reilly!

  5. The PAC12 is not forbidding their schools from playing FCS ones. Utah and Washington have upcoming games against UND, so unless the Big Sky moves to FBS, UND will be FCS when they play. The PAC12 needs a scheduling conference like the Big 10 has with the MAC, so the PAC12 will support a Big Sky move to FBS.

I've never stated that the Big Sky will be "equal" to the MWC, any more that I stated the MAC is equal to the Big 10. What is true is that the Big 10 will protect the MAC's FBS status because the Big 10 needs MAC schools as their 7th home games. The Big 10 would have never proposed dropping FCS schools from the schedule, because the MAC serves as a high FCS conference when it is an FBS conference in name.

No Ill will leave the MAC for a better conference as soon as it gets a chance (it left before and it will leave again like Marshall). I am in no way slamming the MAC and have a high degree of respect for Miami's football history as the cradle of coaches. But many of the schools in the MAC (Ball St, Bowling Green, EMU, Kent St) will be for the forseeable future just placeholders for Big 10 games and are just shells of their past. North Dakota will soon be the per capita national leader in income and will gain a lot of people and academic wealth. UCF, USF,UTSA, Charlotte, et al will not forbidden to move to FBS, and that will be true to UND and the Big Sky. The NCAA behaves to accommodate wealth: thirty years ago North Dakota was a backwater state and now its at the forefront of change.

I am in full agreement with the third to the last sentence and the last sentence in the final paragraph.

  6. The longer out into the future any FCS football program schedules an FBS team the greater the potential risk of a buyout of the contract. UND's overall financial picture is unlike many other programs unless they have hockey. Their football picture is down somewhat now so that isn't a fair component in making comparisons either. UND's hockey program is comparable or above any hockey program in the NCAA. It deserves the best. IMO!

  7. This is key. College sports is changing, and Fullerton has a plan for that change. He saw teams exiting conferences in droves and almost lost his Montana schools to the WAC so to help his conference in "ALL" sports he secured the strength in numbers (unlike Douple) with the addition of the GWFC (GWC) teams except South Dakota who bailed at the last minute. Now Fullerton sees a split coming and wants his conference to be ready for that split. V&D are just riding the wave praying they still have a conference after this is over.

F, V, and D are all minor league ballplayers trying to act like big leaguers. Unlikely any will ever make the cut.

  8. No, NDSU beat UND in softball during the fall season, but I believe those are all exhibitions. That's what he was saying.

That is a very accurate description. Even though NDSU had several sports in 2013/14 with some degree of notoriety, UND owned the head to head competition.

  9. Kupchella was very similar to Loftsgard at NDSU, they both lacked vision and neither possessed leadership capabilities. Tom Clifford and Joe Chapman were the complete opposite. IMHO!

  10. I did that as to repeat my original post. Anyway to exit English 101 and return to football, Gene Taylor won't give up a home game to UND, and he feels the games in an 11 game season will always need to be in Fargo. Plus he is still pissy over something that happened in 2003 and since he can't stick it to Roger Thomas and Kuppy, he feels the need to stick it to Kelley and Faison who have nothing to do with that. GT is a douche and UND needs to fill those years with anyone else. They scheduled a h/h with South Dakota and South Dakota State they can fill a h/h with anyone. NDSU's motto anyone, anywhere is anyone but UND and anywhere as long as its in Fargo. UND's motto is anyone, anywhere.

Representatives from NDSU will be at Roger Thomas' induction to the UND HOF. Don't dredge old !@#$ up unless it is only that spineless cup o' jello that you want to reference.

  11. How about this Since NDSU won't sign with UND. Is that better?

I believe they signed agreements on baseball, basketball M&W, volleyball, soccer, and they have competed in golf tourneys, track meets, cross country meets and will probably compete in softball down the road. UND won most if not all last season. Also you don't capitalize since in the middle of a sentence. That's only a mistake a Minnesota grad would make. Personally I don't think there is much that you could do better that I would be satisfied with, but there is always hope!

  12. Since NDSU will never sign with UND I wonder if Faison will work the phones this offseason to fill the 2015, 2017 spots. We just need 1 home and home for those dates, then UND's schedule is done until 2018.

Never is always a very strong word, as the saying goes "Never say never"!

  13. While some may not agree with Fullerton's views and visions, at least he is open and honest about them, making it well known that he has a forward looking plan. He continues to strive to move the conference forward and make sure they are positioned properly and along the way is open about what his plan is. Not sure the same can not be said for the Douple/Viverito combination. The fact that they both have separate interests isn't necessarily a good thing either.

Couldn't agree more as the SL and MVFC are minor league conferences. So is the BSC for that matter. Jim O'Day former Montana U AD is still a better man IMO than windbag Fullerton.
