Swanson's skating is only average.  His acceleration isn't very good.  For a player who's 5-7, this is a death sentence from an NHL standpoint.    That said, his ability to process the game and read plays is amazing.  He's like a very very poor man's version of Matvei Michkov in that he has an uncanny ability to draw opponents to him whereby he then escapes them or dishes the puck to open spaces.

Stylistically he reminds me A LOT of Chris Fournier (remember him?).  Fournier would've been an amazing college hockey player if he wasn't such a lazy spoiled lockerroom cancer.

I always wondered what happened to Fournier. From my perspective he just disappeared.

Can't wait to see Swanson keep proving people wrong.  Add another chip on his shoulder with this.

So what’s the issue people have with him? Is it just his size? Or something else?

I remember Rocco had a lot of interest, and you don’t get any smaller than that.

I’ll be interested to see if a player like that signs on.  They may, but international players have to be so very careful of making anything,  due to their being here on a student Visa, as opposed to a work visa. Violate the terms of the visa, and you could find yourself headed home.

It seems that you are correct. That’s sucks.

Sounds like Gaber played almost the entirety of the Michigan game with a broke hand. Hence why he didn't make his pro debut yet.

Give him props if true. Tough break for your final game.

Schlossman's article about what it takes to win a title talked mainly about goaltending and winning some coin flip games.   He also mentioned UND wasn't far off.  Well, they were actually 4 games off.  In order to get to a coinflip, you have to be mentally prepared for the better part of the game, and not have lapses like UND did.   I think there were probably teams outside of the tournament that would have been better prepared to take advantage of that kind of game.  By coin flip alone, you would think UND would win a game every once in a while in the tournament.

Would have been nice to hear from Schlossman about UND's shortcomings down the stretch rather than saying they weren't far off.  Save "weren't far off" for programs like St. Cloud State, Western or Omaha.   As Berry says playing for this program isn't easy because you have an expectation to win, and it isn't for everybody, so let's not get to the point where you settle for moral victories.

Guys like Jammer understand all of this. That’s why he gives 100% every game. He plays above his potential. That’s a leader. Now, that kind of passion and work ethic has to be instilled in all the very talented young guns.

Maybe I just have higher expectations of a program like ours, which used to be considered the best or at least one of.   Now we are content beating our rivals because they lose their best talent?  We used to say, "Bring your best and be ready to lose."   I hope the players and staff haven't lowered their standards like we have here.

    :D

How dominant was UND between 1983-1995?
