I haven't heard much about Chaves in the Herald or even small talk in town...Is this good or bad or just too early?

You might need to give the man a little more time, haha. Pretty sure the seat of his chair isn't even warm yet.

And why The Al and not the HPC?

I think it is because the field at the HPC is not wide enough. The turf at the Alerus has a lot more space between the edge of the turf and the sidelines than the HPC's turf.

  3. A lot of times our opinions are tied to our perceptions. A person might think that no one likes the Hawk logo and name because none of their friends like it or they don't see other people wearing it. That might be because the friends or people that they spend a lot of time around them might not have a lot of it or none at all. At the same end, there are people who have others all around them wearing the new logo constantly and they get the opinion that the community seem to really be buying into it. Its all about the bubble that people keep themselves in. The same thing can deal with everything in life and is probably most often seen in politics.

Because of this, unless you come strapped with PDFs with hard sales figures, i'm going to take everything everyone says as pure wild conjecture. Right now, its purely Schrödinger's hawk...its both selling well and selling poorly.

Again, I wish they hadn't left the big hole in the front.  Oh well, they look good on the ice.

They will still fill it in with the number. Did you not like how they did the last jersey with the number in the center of the "North Dakota" on the front?

Jerseys have a Hawk logo, center ice will have no logo for the first time since the building opened in 2001. Different how?

I took the article to mean that it will have the new North Dakota wordmark like it did the first year post-Sioux logo...

Center ice matched last year's jerseys, which were ordered before the Hawk name was announced. This year will be different. The Fighting Hawks to the crowd was said often, but they quit due to complaints about the crowd booing. The SiouxShop name is historic, they can keep it or change it. If you want to continue to complain and battle with those at the REA,  you can. You'll no doubt find someone to fight with. You are on a mission to fight with the REA/"hockey only fans"; if you give it a rest it will all pass in time. You are part of the divide when you don't have to be.

My buddy who went to all the games last season said they said it all year long.

Alerus Center definitely half-assed it for a long time ... the gameday atmosphere committee and new Alerus Center management seems to be making a difference so far, though (consider new sound system).

While I love the new sound system and lights that the Alerus Center will be getting, I don't know if either the committee or the new management group had anything to do with them. The committee has had like one meeting and the new management team hasn't been in charge more than two weeks. A sound system and new installation of lights isn't something that just happens on a whim, that is something that is built into the budget well ahead of time.

Baseball, golf and women's hockey make 3. Swimming and Diving officially counts as 4 sports...so 7.

Does that mean that we had 28 teams? With your line of logic, Track and Field would be a total of 8 broken down Men's Indoor Track, Men's Outdoor Track, Men's Indoor Field, Men's outdoor Field, Women's Indoor Track, Women's outdoor Track, Women's Indoor Field, and Women's outdoor Field?

According to the NCAA website Swim and Dive is its own sport as well Track and Field. A team may only have one or the other, you are still listed as a team under Swim and Dive. Track and Field, though, is split into two sports with an indoor and outdoor seasons. So, when it comes to Swim and Dive, you can split at gender, but that's about it.

I'll have to ask, but you can access the Google Play store via devices with FireOS so I'd imagine it will work just like all of the other Google Play apps.

Fire OS, though built on Android, is Amazon's own little toy, so they want full control over it. They take out all of the google services off the Fire OS I believe. There is a pretty easy way to install those onto a Fire OS device, but Amazon tries to keep it within their own little eco system. It might work if Neulion submitted the android app to the amazon app store...I have no clue how that specifically works, though.

I am willing to bet Jones and Brew would be all for this with the following.

Each gets 3-4 games a year in Ralph (Saturday night when men's hockey is gone would be perfect.)

Each has a locker room there. Betty would still be main locker room but also have their own in the Ralph for those games and practice there on game weeks after men's hockey has left town. There is space for this now I'm guessing.

    ....

To the first highlighted point, you would have to be careful. If you notice, even when the MHKY team is out of town, the school is careful not to schedule anything during the game time for the men's hockey team where ever they are playing. They know that basketball games scheduled during a hockey game would suffer on attendance because many people are going to be at home or at a bar watching the game. The school did have a good change this year with having game times later than the normal 2pm during Saturday's with no hockey in town. I think it helped with overall atmosphere at the games and the way the season went down for both MBB and WBB we are most likely to see the atmosphere flourish more (I hope). Men's hockey, though, is an unwieldy animal though, and can cause eyes to be diverted away, no matter how far away they are playing.

To the second highlighted point, we have to watch ourselves after these most recent cuts, practice on the game weeks may sound like a good idea but we would have the added cost of having a crew come in (they need more people than the normal REA staff) to help cover the ice and install the floor every time, which would not exactly be a cheap endeavor. It would have to be limited to only before they have games in there to make it more cost efficient, but even then we cross the line of the players not feeling like it is their home floor. We are at a disadvantage because of the fact that UND does not own this facility, meaning that the school has to pay for anything new it wants. I'm sure they get a discount because UND is the main tenant, but its nothing like owning your own building.

    1 hour ago, SiouxVolley said:

If the cuts have demonstrated anything to this board, a school needs to maximize revenue to the great extent without harming winning.  WIH did the opposite.  What school would use a 12,000 seat arena for games that attract less than 1000 people that don't actually pay for a ticket?  That's a gross misuse of an asset, which would drive the owner broke over time.  Not saying mbb or wbb is the answer, but coming off this championship season, what better time to try it again?  Helped managed an industrial facility and if anything was underutilized, their would be cuts in bad times.  That is what's happening here.

WIH had a budget of $1.9 mill.  MBB has a budget of $1.5 mill.  Meanwhile, even bottom schools in the MVC like Drake have mbb budgets more than $2.0

I agree that this is probably the best time to revisit the thought of maybe having games back in this building, but, and this goes back to a point I made up above, we need to watch ourselves. We just got through some very ugly, very public cuts, and any spending that happens with UND athletics is going to be under very strict watch by the public and those who felt wronged by the cuts. Having basketball games in there is a novel idea and can be good, but it needs to be approached very gently.

Might be a good incentive to lure in a P5 game...(Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc) even if a two for one arrangement.

I really like the idea of having a P5 team coming in and playing in the Ralph against UND, but I think the biggest thing is getting our WBB and MBB teams to want to play in the Ralph. They have said that they don't like playing in there because it doesn't feel like a home game to them. They supposedly like the atmosphere of the Betty more.

WatchESPN will have the games this weekend.

WatchESPN will have some of the games, but not all of them. It looks like Big Ten schools are trying to have their games on BTN2go. Hopefully Minnesota gets their game added so we can watch as well.

once again the Athletic Department is at it again...you know there is gonna be large walk up for this championship game...so they decide to close off the east practice rink entrance and funnel all the walk ups to the 3 ....yes three ticket takers....the line was out the door.

    great game tho...

Your inability to enjoy anything is mind-boggling...UND sets records all over the place with an absolutely spectacular match with a great crowd and your post is 90% about your minor inconvenience to walk to a different door and wait in line.

No, you would find a way to continue it. BTW.....Fighting Hawks is going to be on the championship banner hanging in the Ralph.

I'm fairly certain that it was tweeted out that the Interlocking ND was going to be on the banner since that was the logo at the time of winning the championship.

Per FSN press release, all games available on FS GO app with sign in.

the sign-in is from your TV provider. They offer the same things with Wild, T-Wolves, and Twins games. For those with Midco, I chatted with their support a couple months ago and they do not have the rights or an agreement with Fox Sports to provide any of the pro team streams broadcasting on Fox sports north on FS GO through their TV Everywhere thing. When I log in to FSGO through my Midco login, I can still watch anything on FCS (in HD. You have to have FCS as part of your cable plan) or anything sports-wise that happens to be airing on Fox.

As for the college hockey games, I do not know if people with midco will be able to get those games on FS GO. Just thought I would pass my story through to give people a word of caution, as I don't want people surprised when the time comes. My cousin said he was able to get them with his Cable one login, though.

for comparison sake...how big is the video board at the betty in relation to all these new digital advertising boards popping up around town here in gf/egf?

I think billboards are something like 15'x50' and the new boards in the Betty is 10'x20'. Your perspective is also warped as well...A billboard is 100-150' in the air and the boards in the betty are only going to be 30 or so feet from the ground.

*most measures are approximate. I did not put that much effort into this answer.

What's the quality of these streaming games, especially the non-UND games?  It would be great to see the Sioux  conference road games as well.  Probably worth the additional $5 to get the Conference Season pass now instead of just the UND pass.

It feels like the NCHC has been pushing schools to up their streaming quality in the recent seasons. It'd be hard to constantly be at our level as ours are literally broadcast quality. If you are looking to only see the conference games that UND is taking part in (home or away), you can purchase just the UND pass and be good with it. The team-specific pass gets you access to any conference game that team is taking part in home or away...at least that is the way it was in past seasons.

when it takes four or five or six days to update a simple men's basketball score on our OWN webpage yet a men's hockey game that is just completed a few hours ago is already on the webpage there is something wrong...perception is reality and people (i) perceive the ADepartment as very pro-hockey (and hadju is about as one sided as you can get) to the detriment to true growth sports namely bball, football, and vball.

lol, yeah...you definitely have an ax to grind with Hajdu.

Why is there no roster on the website?    Hmmm...

You mean this one: http://www.undsports.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&SPID=6387&SPSID=58559&KEY=&Q_SEASON=2015 ?

When you go to the normal page, it takes you to a "2016 Roster" since we are in the year 2016, but there techincally isn't a 2016 version of the team yet, so it doesn't show anything. Its the weird thing that happens with the turn of the calendar year with teams that are only one year based and not split over two years (Teams that purely have a 2015 schedule, instead of a 2015-16 schedule).
