  1. C'mon...Penn State is awful so you're down to five. Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State are mediocre at best. Now you're down to Wisconsin and Minnesota

I gotta agree with MafiaMan on this.

Western Michigan swept Michigan State in a 2-game series

    Western Michigan beat Michigan

Miami swept Ohio State in a 2-game series

    Miami split with Wisconsin

WMU and Miami went 6-1 vs the Big Ten out of conference.

  2. Serious question that's not really on topic..... what the heck is UMass doing in the MAC? There's nothing Mid-American about Massachusetts.

They are football only in the MAC at this time but they may join for all sports. MAC is moving east just like the Big Ten. Buffalo was promised some eastern partners just like Penn State was when they joined the Big Ten.

Rumors of University of Delaware and James Madison also joining the MAC. MAC is renegotiating the TV deal with ESPN right now and our regional TV deal is changing too where Comcast is buying TWC Sports Channel so NBCSN may be involved with wanting some basketball games or something too. Consequently, NBCSN and CSN have the A10 and CAA TV packages and Delaware, James Madison, and UMass are very important pieces in that.

We'll see, but most would be happy to get those schools in the MAC all sports and expand to mid-atlantic and northeast seaboard for TV purposes.

  3. Miami is a good hockey team. Fun to watch.

It has been a strange year for Miami Hockey. I'm sure we have some talent but we have struggled. We've went from #1 in the country to last place in the NCHC. Maybe we didn't adjust well to the long travel (although we took a bus all the way to St. Cloud), or we were overrated or underachieved, or the CCHA was overrated (but Notre Dame has done well in HE), or we are adjusting to the style of play of the NCHC vs CCHA.... Whatever has happened, I think we are the low seed that nobody really wants to play because we are capable of beating anybody. We have made the NCAA Tourney 8 straight years and I'd love to win the next 2 and make it 9.

  4. Too soon for you guys as you've just went through the name change I guess. Just to get to know your new conference mates better. Our nickname was "blessed by the Miami Indian tribe for as long as the winds shall blow".... but we had to change it anyway. I didn't intend to stir the pot, and I'll respect this board. Our board is a bit different. Link below from a newspaper article discussing it.

    It was changed in 1997.

  5. Has anybody heard how TV ratings are going on CBS Sports Network and/or how ticket sales are going for the Frozen Faceoff?

Any impressions/updates on the new league in general?

I had thought I had heard when the TV contract was signed that CBS Sports was going to dedicate a section on their website to college hockey but I haven't seen one.

    Whats the long-term vision?

  6. Are Miami home games still televised on a regional network in Ohio. Until a few years ago I know they were on Ohio News Network, which was available FTA with a satellite setup, but they quit uplinking a few years back, and I see the station totally shut down a year ago.

The home games were on Ohio News Now (ONN) a few years back but then last year the home games were broadcast by Time Warner SportsChannel and the production was pretty good (not as good as CBSSN does though). Time Warner SportsChannel allowed us to use their cable feed for our Webcast.

This summer our Athletic Director mention he was having our media rights arm IMG shop the home games package and was looking for an even better deal but so far nobody has heard anything and I am wondering what is going on. I had assumed that Fox Sports Ohio would pick up this package but so far silence. I hope they are just working out details and after the college football season in late November they will be picked up.

I'm not sure what Western Michigan is up to but Fox Sports Detroit would be ideal for them. The new Fox Sports Go app is supposed to eventually stream all their 22 regional networks and Fox Sports1/2 so having a deal with Fox Sports Ohio would be great.

I'd like to see Denver expand their Roots Sports Regional deal, Miami - Fox Sports Ohio, WMU - Fox Sports Detroit, UND - Midco, and the others pick up Regional Network deals that is allowed under CBSSN.

I thought I had heard that CBSSports would add a college hockey section and "eye on hockey" commentary and feature the conference while CBSSports Network promotes the NCHC. Anybody heard anything?

  7. Haha I was trying to give the play-by-play guy some slack, but when it took him a full minute into a powerplay to realize that it was 5 on 4 and not 5 on 3...that's sad.

The play by play guy was not our normal guy. He is not a hockey guy at all and was filling in for our usual who knows hockey well. Saturday was a busy day for our athletic department with a home football game and a few other activities etc... I think they were scrambling to just get somebody to cover the game. Miami should have just spliced in the radio broadcast over the video as he is a hockey guy.

  8. "The Cradle of Coaches" in football is still Miami's main focus in most instances. Miami basketball has also had many who still give great priority to it. Miami Hockey is a great "bonus" sport that we are proud of but not the main focus. The thought is that college hockey and hockey in general is a great sport on the rise nationally that we are a major player and have a true chance to win a national championship, but its still not our priority sport.

  9. You wouldn't beat us in basketball this year... football, yes... basketball, no.

Well, maybe you are right. Nobody knows unless they played, but my point was we arent a "hockey only" school because if you counted our athletic donations and polled our boosters on who they considered who they thought our main athletic programs were, it would not be hockey. Many of our boosters are actually pissed that they think too much attention lately has been given to hockey.

  10. Haha I should have clarified what I meant by "cute." The ones sitting by us amused me. So proud of their number 1 ranking because hockey is the ONLY sport at their school.

Not too many Sioux fans at the game I didn't think, but we were pretty scattered around, so it washard to tell. Drake Caggiula's parents sat in front of us. They're so nice!

I take exception to you saying that hockey is our "ONLY" sport. Miami has a very good football and basketball history. Miami basketball has 4 sweet 16 appearances and Miami Football has a Top 25 all-time winning percentage in D1 history has beaten many Top 15 teams in bowls. Our bball and football teams stink right now but we would still beat UND in both sports even now.

  11. You guys have a long way to go when it comes to game atmosphere, for a good program, awful atmosphere it appears.

Miami fans will be the first to admit that we wish we could get 10,000+ fans at our barn, but those that come are into the game. UND is fortunate for their fan base. Nobody denies what the Sioux has, but Miami is still proud of what we have. Good luck guys, good series.
