  1. I know these QBs are still young but I don't like hearing that they are struggling in camp. Mollberg was unbelievably hyped out of HS and Bartels was fairly highly touted too. I guess I will have to see how they perform during the season.

I don't remember Bartels's story as much as Muss proclaiming Molberg the best recruit for UND in the last 20 years. there has been a lot of good players that have come and gone in 20 years.........ah Muss.

  2. point well taken!! can you imagine what our squad might look like without some of these transfers?? I know that nobody has take a snap yet, but prospectively it could have been a lot worse.

  3. Two things we can guarantee. The secondary will be much better. So much so that I can hardly wait to watch the SJSU game just to see it. Also there won't be a fr starting qb. Those two things should add up to a win in a similar game to the SDSU game if we find ourselves in one and lack of a blowout against Montana or MSU. Those two facts add up to not starting from scratch.

I think at most positions you could almoste assume a net gain. Not so much at the receiver postion tho. jmho
  4. Not at all and it wasn't from a current or former player. And I didn't say that he won the starting spot, but based on performance in spring ball, he had a good shot at being the #1 going into fall camp. The QB position was and still is far from settled. He had already decided he was transferring to a JuCo to try to play FBS though (Sioux Football Insiders have reported this part as well). I felt comfortable enough with where I got the information to post it, mainly with the point that his leaving was a bigger loss than most people (myself included) would originally think.

I do agree that he had potential, and was a loss to the team. I wish him well if truly believes her is a FBS talent, tho I doubt he proved it in the short time he spent at UND. jmho

  5. Was told that he was the leader for starting coming out of spring ball and headed into the fall camp but he had his mind set on playing FBS already.

so you are saying that he won the starting spot coming out of spring practice, then decides 1AA isn't good enough for him, all from the mouth of another juvenile on the team, and you believed enough to post it on this board?

  6. I am not sure how accurate this was but apparently Palandech had the strongest and most accurate arm and also was the fastest out of all the QBs. This is coming from a freshman football player. So hearing that it disappoints me that we lost him.

I think It was obvious that he was the fastest, without a doubt. I don't know about the rest.

  7. I know that Palandech is.

so we are going into another season with 3 QBs with just a little more experience that last year....and an all new offense. is there much chance of juco or drop down at the QB position?

    ?

  8. I will have no expectations for this team until three games into the season at least. There's no way to guess who will be qb and how they'll play in the new system. Also all the new blood that will be infused will change things greatly. We need to give them time to gel and craft an identity. In the meantime we should sit back and let Bubba do his thing.

the new system would have to favor Molberg physically, but Bartels mentally

  9. should be interesting day for the "Bubba brigade" on saturday

      Spring Game 2014 Info

Posted on April 25, 2014 by oskie

The 2014 UND Spring Football game will be held tomorrow, Saturday April 26th at the Alerus Center. The game will begin at 1pm.
Here is a list of things going on prior to and after the game:
      • The annual Kids Clinic will precede the game at 11:30 a.m. and is open to kids eighth grade and younger. Comfortable clothing appropriate for athletic activities is recommended but no cleats.
        • Parking and tailgating is free on Saturday and lots will open at 8 a.m.
          • Saturday will also mark the first day parents can sign up their children for the 2014-15 membership year of Jr. Champions, the official UND Athletics kids’ club. Membership (which previously cost $25/year) will be completely free in 2014-15, with thanks to the generous support of presenting sponsors, U.S. Bank and Midco Sports Network.

            • Following the Spring Game, which should conclude no later than 2:30 p.m., fans will are encouraged to come down to the field, meet the team and the new coaching staff and get autographs from the team.

[*]As we stated previously on twitter, the game will be Offense vs. Defense. They will setup in various spots on the field and run a set number of plays from each spot.

[*]UND Sports had a nice spring ball video preview with OC Paul Rudolph.

Position battles we will be watching:

[*]Quarterback (Bartles vs. Mollberg vs. Hanson vs. Palandech – The QB spot is 100% up for grabs)

[*]Running Back (Shaugabay vs. Sparks vs. Sharp vs. Garman – The RB spot is 100% up for grabs)

[*]Wide Receiver (McGill vs. Carr vs. Young – The two starting WR spots are 100% up for grabs although we would give McGill the edge for one of them)

[*]Outside Linebacker (Idowu vs. Butler vs. Hickel vs. Labat)

[*]Safety (B. Carr vs. James vs. Reyes vs. Coyle – We feel Reyes is the future at one of the safety spots and the other three will battle for the second starting safety position).

  10. und did not have the best receivers in the fcs last year, eastern Washington did, and it wasn't even close.

    how

my main question was to whom had knowledge of the personnel +/- from last year to this one as to how much lbetter/worse we will be than last year. I didn't intend a discussion on who actually ended up having the best receivers in fcs last year. jmho

  11. Last year everyone's hopes of a playoff season with 7 home games were crushed and thrown out the window. This year everyone knows Bubba is going to clean up Muss's mess, and it's not going to be done overnight or through one season. .500 is the bar set, Muss never had 6 DI wins in one season (his best was 5 in 2011), so if Bubba can go 6-6 on an all DI schedule that is a hell of an improvement. Winning will increase attendance more than a spring game.

I agree that Bubba's staff with get more blood out the proverbial turnip than Muss's staff did by a long shot. gradually improving over time. we lost some good players, Hardin/Jackson/golliday has to be a net loss. QB;s struggled last year with questionable OL play, but had the best receivers in fcs. we will have a few step up and fill shoes hypothetically. just saying we will focus on the "run game" wont make us a good running team. defense should be better! WHAT IS the +/- on personnel for this year.

  12. Stetson Carr, senior safety Baylee Carr's brother, is also competing at QB. Realistically however, it likely comes down to Mollberg and Bartels again.

does Carr have to sit a year, I thought he was on the team at Bismarck last year?

  13. Incorrect. UNDsports.com has covered each practice quite extensively. Last year's disappointing season (thanks Mussman) has killed the media interest, not Bubba. When people see the results over the next few seasons, everything will change.

my question on media coverage was focused on TV and news paper converage. I agree that the UNDsports.com does a great job covering the spring season. jmho
  14. correct me if I am wrong here, wasn't there a lot more media coverage through the spring practices last year. I seem to recall watching practice updates all the time. mostly the "epic quarterback battle" and the "best receiving corps in FCS" which were so hyped. Would Bubba be controlling how much media coverage goes on the nightly sports? just curious.
