  1. I really like the uniforms. But I'm disappointed in the way they were unveiled. They missed an opportunity to create some buzz for the upcoming season. Most big football programs would release studio photos, that include a few different looks and maybe acknowledge the old unis they are inspired from to add some context. I love that kind of stuff so maybe it's just me

A large chunk of them will be in Iowa City, and another large group not going to the game will be at watch parties. I think the number of those fans at the Alerus will be able to be counted on you fingers..

They'll jump to the UND bandwagon after the first half

The new Ralph will never be as good as the old Ralph ...

The new (Brien) logo isn't the Blackhawk logo so it's no good*.

What changed for both? Time. Exposure. Experiences.

*Contrary to what many will tell you, the initial reception to the Brien logo by quite a few was cool at best.

I didn't like the Ben Brien logo at all when it was released. I remember thinking "What's wrong with the neck?" It was released at the height of the geometric logo popularity, which probably affected it's reception.

Had I known it was as easy as the football team winning a half-dozen NCAA football national championships for everyone to stop confusing UND with NDSU, I'd give this my seal of approval.  Maybe the school can toss in three or four men's and women's NCAA basketball championships too in order to help the cause.

Fair point. I wonder if Montana and Montana St. have that problem.

Ask 100 folks what that is and I bet you'll hear:

    Snow Falcons

    Space Ghosts

    White Blobs

I'm sorry, if this is "branding" the university, it needs something else.  Are we the University of North Dakota Snow Hawks now?

Patience my friend. It will take time and success to make it household name. But a couple championships will do wonders for the branding and name recognition. I would have been in favor for either snow Hawks or space ghosts over f'n hawks!

Looks very nice. Logo looks sharp on these helmets. Should be a fine look this fall that fans can rally around, especially if the squad is winning.

I'm excited to see what they end up doing. I have a feeling they will either use the new ND by itself, the hawk by itself, or use the full logo on one side. I can't imagine they would put on a hawk facing backwards.

  7. I don't remember how the interlocking logo rebrand went, but we ended up with a few versions of it. Does anyone remember if they were all released as a part of the rebrand or did they just adapt them as needed to work with new uniforms or other applications? This logo will be very limited if they don't allow outlines or color variations.

The new logo is showing up everywhere now. It does not look good compared to the others.... Way to rectangle. Still don't understand how an interim president gets to decide on a final logo. Maybe the next president will allow students to create a second and third logo that we all can agree on.

The more I see the logo next to others, the more I like it. I'd take it over every other NCAA logo here except St. Cloud's, and the majority of these NHL logos.

FYI... Jayson says the bird will always be white, so here are a couple unofficial looks for the on-grey and on-black backgrounds/jerseys:

    White_Bird_Green_ND_on_Grey.jpg

    White_Bird_Green_ND_on_Black.jpg

    White_Bird_Green_ND_on_Black_Green_Breas

And I have no idea what they're going to do with the black breast part on a green jersey, so here's a couple options:

    White_Bird_Black_ND_on_Green_Black_Breas

    White_Bird_Black_ND_on_Green_Green_Breas

I know people have said the hawk will never be used without the ND, but I think the football helmets would look really cool if they used large hawk logos facing forward. It would give it the wing look similar to Philly or Oregon.

Really? You are saying that not liking our new logo is the equivalent to using vulgar language or posting sexually explicit material online? Because those are the things I see student-athletes get in trouble for. I have never seen a student-athlete get in trouble for not liking a sports team's logo. If coaches cracked down on every little thing, they wouldn't have enough players to fill a roster. And I think Bubba leads by example and his players follow him because they love him and would run through a brick wall for him.

And these athletes didn't have to choose UND, they could have gone someplace else. So we should appreciate them for what they do on the field/court/ice. They don't owe us anything; at least that is what we are told when one of our hockey players leaves school early.

I never said anything about vulgar language. I said inappropriate, the coach defines what constitutes what is inappropriate on social media. And it's not a team's sports logo, it's YOUR teams sports logo.

The players don't owe me anything, I want them all to be successful. Whining about a logo on Twitter just makes you look unprofessional. That goes for everyone, not just athletes. Good talk

Here's where I'm at: The Fighting Hawks name was a complete disappointment to me. It met none of the committee's criteria.

However, given that, my expectations for a logo were set accordingly. By that standard (complete disappointment) this logo did slightly exceed those (albeit admittedly very low) expectations.

Take the victories you can get I guess.

But, I'm also a gracious loser. Fighting Hawks won. It's mine now. I accept it.

Just think, Omaha has a Nuva ring for a logo and they embrace it!

Well, he was talking like student-athletes owe us whatever we demand of them or else, so I think he needs to heal thyself.

I guess I read it more like its a privilege to play here, so why publicly demean the institution that is giving so much to you? And as far as discipline from a coach, they should absolutely sit a player for saying inappropriate things in public. The coaches job is to help these student-athletes be successful. In the real world, you don't get away with insulting your organization. So I agree that the best approach is to "shut up and play".

Whoa, hold on there: Shut up and play? There is a perspective from a certain political persuasion that I do not share who likes to b!tch and moan about how "liberal campus speech codes" are taking away our freedoms and liberties. Now, all of a sudden, student-athletes are supposed to "shut up and play"? It can't be both; either college campuses are free speech zones or they aren't. Or does it depend on what speech and who is speaking it?

We don't "own" these young men and women. Most of them could have gone any number of other places. And if they were not here, we wouldn't have teams, players and championships to talk about. We should appreciate them for what they do and not tell them to "shut up" about anything.

Geaux-Sioux was a student athlete. I think he realizes they aren't property.
