I wouldn't be surprised if the B1G is or has had talks with UND about being a hockey affiliate in the B1G. UND isn't dumb and would have asked would they get dropped from the B1G if enough member institutions added hockey in the future. Who are the B1G looking at to boost the competitiveness and profile of the conference in hockey. And would UND get equal say in decisions on the hockey side of the B1G as full member institutions do, like Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin...

I think the attendance issue has more to do with Gopher fans that hate the B1G for destroying the WCHA and that might have something to do with Wisconsin having poor attendance too, albeit a very small part comepaired to the product on the ice.

Missouri State and Illinois State are two that could go NCAA D1 with Iowa State. There are rumors that Iowa State might join the B1G when the Big 12 falls apart. I see the B1G in a couple of years looking for "hockey only" members to help their conference. If I was the PAC 12 I would follow the NCHC model rather then the B1G model for starting a conference. The biggest fault of the B1G was starting a conference once 6 member schools had hockey. They should have waited and gauged interest at other member schools if hockey was possible. Look at Rutgers they are banking on the B1G money to support their athletic department. I was surprised to see on GPL that the Gophers have lost money since leaving the WCHA.

Iowa State seems to have a following and are the top team in the ACHA D1 last time I looked.

All I hear about Nebraska is they will not add hockey because of their agreement with Omaha. Iowa City is trying to get an USHL team like Kansas City did.

He did say other schools in Illinois besides University of Illinois are looking to add a NCAA D1 team. That has me thinking Illinois State University would add a team, they have a USHL arena they do play in. I'm not sure how much of what Klaassen knows is true, so I'll wait to see what happens in the next couple of years on more teams going NCAA D1.
