  1. Good point. Yes, the NHL pretty much funds the CHL. Long story short (although many college die hards who only watch college hockey may disagree) a large portion of the top prospects play in the CHL. Due to the recent US success in international tournaments and due to the NTDP players focusing strictly on hockey year round, at a very high level, we are now producing players that are becoming good at a young age, and thus, are being recruited by the CHL. This really isn't all that new as many US kids have gone to the CHL in the past. We are simply noticing it more now because of college hockey's rise in popularity over the past 12 years or so and due to the US getting much better at hockey over that same period. College hockey started retaining great US players where in the past they would bounce up north. But regarding Biggs, if you don't kill it in college hockey being that highly touted, I doubt he will ever be that great in the NHL (if he gets there). He reminds be of that Canadian Gopher player that played when Pots was on the team....forgot his name.
  2. From what I read the kid sounds like a trouble-maker....Hak won't put up with that.
  3. I get it. Not enough to ever get me to change my mind on the nickname or logo...but enough for me to back out of the conversation. Someone obviosuly dropped the ball (more than one time). I guess I am speaking on the overall reasoning of taking the name away...nothing to do with sanctions or anything. Simply based on what is right and what is wrong and who will be offended, etc. If we missed a deadline (or two or three deadlines) so be it, we may have to get rid of the nickname.
  4. I would really like you to explain further....I have been following him here in the Cities and from what a buddy tells me he is a lock to go to the Sioux....at least as of a week ago.
  5. I really would like to see Grimaldi on that top line with Knight and Kristo, I wouldn't mess with that second line at all after how well they gelled together last year..
  6. Decent article. One thing though, say they vote to keep the nickname and the NCAA try to get involved, I thought the Universtiy could turn around and sue the NCAA on prejudice because we got the vote? All in all, this is simply stupid because the Natives are the one's getting this ballot going. Again, at a high level, what is really going on when the Native's are the people getting this going. I guess I really just do not see it. Again my vote will not count so I will try to refrain from posting on this thread again.....just wanted some info. Thanks!
  7. Yeah, reading many of the posts on here actually gets me thinking a little. I really wish we could have the best of both worlds, but the NCAA will not let that happen. It's just unfortunate. Other teams can use native nicknames and we can't (please don't blast me for posting that), plain and simple. We were late on filing some paperwork I guess, now we're screwed. Still, at a high level, it doesn't make sense. At a low level (filing level, deadline level, etc) I guess it does. We'll have to see what happens. I don't think I could vote anyway so my vote won't count :o)
  8. Get well Matty....you have a bright future ahead of you!
  9. You "regulars" need to also be classy with your posts. You obviously do not approve of the nickname as you feel it will hurt the football teams chances of playing in the Big Sky. There are others of us who would like to keep the nickname for pride and historical purposes and to not simply give up because liberal radicals tell us we are somehow racist. We have our views (and are posting them) and you guys have yours (and are posting them). Remember we are all Sioux (or UND) fans so please relax and try to stay classy.
  10. I really like Karl's response.
  11. don't think so...only the wcha operates with a conflict of interest so openly.
  12. Anyone know why Caggiula only played 4 USHL games last year and went back to the OJHL?
  13. I really like these incoming freshman. I think Sanderson will be a solid role player, along with Caggiula (although I think this guy could end being real nice too). Bryn has an awesome shot and I could see him being a top 6 forward at some point if he plays with a playmaker. Schmaltz will be awesome, same with Gothberg. I heard Saunders is all right so I'll stay up on him until I see otherwise. Just curious why he ended up at Alabama and not anywhere else, don't know all that much about him other than he got absolutely peppered last year.
  14. College hockey on full display tonight!
  15. Are you kidding me....do you even read what people right. Yes, in my statement I noted I am not the biggest Sioux football fan but I do hope they win....yes I know they play in the FCS. I am simply not the biggest fan of the FCS because I can never watch any of the games. I know SCSU wasn't good at football, but because I was a hockey fan I knew that school. I know absolutely nothing about South Dakota and Montana because growing up I was never a huge football fan...just the casual fan who would go to the games with my parents. I am more of a hockey fan...like I have already said. You are a mess.
  16. Not sure, I said I was a fan of all Sioux sports, but follow hockey the most...simply because that is the sport I grew up playing. Over the last few years I have started watching football....D1-A football not so much D1-AA. Can't get all Sioux football games here in the Cities like you can hockey. Also, when I grew up they were playing relevant teams (SCSU, NDSU, etc). Now I don't even know anyone they play anymore...might as well watch the big schools I guess.
  17. I knew some of that....but not all. There has to be something the state can do. The Gophers play UI.
  18. I thought this was an open forum where Sioux fans can openly speak their minds on their favorite hockey team. I love the Sioux but feel they haven't had a good goaltender since Phil. I may bite the bullet here, but when did I say the Sioux haven't had a good goalie in the last decade, I simply said Dell had inflated stats due to the great players in front of him. Thats all. I also said Phil and Parise had great years...go check it out. I do remember saying we need a goalie who wins games by himself once in a while. That's all I said. There has to be criticism too. Remember, there is more than just the players that play for the Sioux out there, by that, I mean not every player that plays for the Sioux is the greatest player on earth, and so we can criticize when we feel necessary. Dell wasn't terrible, I would simply like to see Gothberg.
  19. It depends on how bad. First off, yes I am a Sioux fan. I was born and raised in GF, I went to UND, however, you are correct that I follow hockey much more in depth than the rest of the sports. We'll see, again, like I said. I guess it would depend on what types of sanctions would actually happen.
  20. Yes, I get that. And if they lose the name because of that so be it. But if there is a way to keep the name....I am for that.
  21. Sorry that I don't agree with everything you say. I played hockey my whole life and have always been a decent judge on players. Your's was pretty weak so I told you that.
  22. No, just a Sioux fan who wants to keep the name. Others started the name calling.
  23. If we have to get rid of the name so do all others (FSU, IU, etc). I don't want to read anything about their tribes support them because we have some too.
