  1. Oh they do and they have and they will continue to. (i.e. alcohol violations, suspensions, drug busts, child support neglect, fleeing police, disorderlies, etc.) This usually is all met with much chagrin and feigned incredulity by the Siouxsports community and UND admin. I've perused lots of threads on here about how unfair the GF media was to UND athletes.

We can argue about Kristo's "side" of the frostbite incident and how the media reported it, but, for the most part, accurate accounts of UND athletes' run-ins with the law have and do make the news.

Work on your reading comprehension skills. I was responding to the FACT that the Herald does not run a court report like the Forum does every week.

I subscribed to the Herald for many years and they quit running court reports years ago. They only run the big ones when a diligent reporter catches it. They use to run them all the time.
  3. I feel bad for those people. All programs have them and the reflect poorly.

I'm not going to call out college kids by name, but looking through the Forum there has been a handful that have been in the court section and not mentioned elsewhere. Also, it doesn't pertain to just violations of the law either.

Yeah too bad the Herald does not run a similar list every week.
  4. Kind of makes one go "I'm excited to have a former AHL defensive coach coaching UNDs defense instead of an offense focused USHL coach.

Yeah really since the d was better under this offensive minded USHL coach. But I still believe when Bubs gets the d into his system with the right type of dmen they will be stellar. The next few years will tell.
  5. Not sure why you need to make everything about you and derail conversations or why I indulge in it, especially considering you never back your statements up...

But there was just an article about Matt Greene and his donation. And if you look through the donation list on the Spirit campaign, you'll see a lot of former UND athletes on that list.

The comment was made that the Bison players just turned their backs on their school. I asked how much have those guys with the million dollar contracts have given back to their school. In your list I found two former hockey players that gave. Neither of them signed million dollar contracts. You responded with former athletes and not hockey players. Why? Because I think my point was made that one should not talk about what other former athletes have done to their schools when many UND guys have done no more. I did not derail the conversation. I asked a pertinent question created by the other poster.
  6. Once again change the subject - but wow what a misguided and uninformed question. UND has dozens of hockey players that are millionaires that love the school - it is announced quite often how hockey players are funding scholarships, attending fundraisers, coming back to campus and working with local kids and the current team. You are so interested in UND perhaps you should get on the mailing list for the alumni magazine then you would know.

How much do you thing the petition frauds artist will give back - think they'll ever be featured in FU's alumni magainze or that they'll be invited to future FU golf tournaments - if so you better not leave your wallet in the club house.

Really? Who? I do get the alumni magazine. So now that you have said they do you now have the responsibility of backing up your statement with fact. By the way the golf tourney does not count.
  7. Cary Eades Named USHL Coach Of The Year

Chicago, IL – The United States Hockey League today announced that Cary Eades of the Sioux Falls Stampede has been named the 2012-13 USHL Coach of the Year as determined by a vote of USHL coaches and general managers.

In just his first season behind the bench for the Stampede, Eades led the team to a 45-17-2 record and the top spot in the USHL Western Conference. The 45 wins tied for the most in the USHL (Dubuque Fighting Saints) and were the most in team history, surpassing the previous record of 43 during the 2005-06 season. Sioux Falls also recorded 24 victories on home ice to set a new team record, while their 21 victories on the road led the entire USHL.

The Stampede earned a team record 92 points in the standing under the direction of Eades this season, 51 more points than they accumulated last year. That increase represents the largest turnaround in USHL history from one season to the next, surpassing the 50-point improvement made by the Green Bay Gamblers in the 2008-09 season during the first year with Jon Cooper as head coach.

Sioux Falls hit new offensive highs with Eades at the helm as they scored 241 goals, the most for the team in the USHL Tier 1 era (2002-present). They were just one of three USHL teams that boasted six different players who scored 20 goals or more, and the team ranked third in the League averaging 3.77 goals per contest.

The Stampede were also one of the top teams defensively as they allowed the fourth fewest goals in the USHL (187), giving up 2.92 per game. Their penalty killing unit was among the best in the League also as they ranked third with an 84.8% success rate at stopping opponent power plays.

A number of players achieved individual success under the leadership of Coach Eades. Forward Dennis Kravchenko blossomed in his second USHL season (first with the Stampede) and was one of the League’s top scorers as he produced 63 points (21g, 42a) over 56 games to rank 12th overall in scoring. In his first season with the Stampede, forward C.J. Franklin ranked tied for sixth in the USHL with his team-leading 32 goals and tied for third with seven game-winners. Tony Calderone scored 29 goals while playing in all 64 regular season games and was named to the USHL All-Rookie Team. Charlie Lindgren recorded a League best 35 victories between the pipes to set a new Stampede record for victories in a season by a goaltender.

Overall, 17 players on the season-ending roster for the Stampede have earned opportunities at NCAA Division I hockey programs following their USHL careers.

This season marked a return to the USHL for Eades after nearly two decades coaching outside the League. He previously coached the Dubuque Fighting Saints for two seasons (1991-93) and led them to a 57-32-7 record. His 100th USHL coaching victory came this season during a 4-3 win over Dubuque on April 6th. It is just the second time a Sioux Falls Stampede head coach has been named the USHL Coach of the Year, following Kevin Hartzell who earned the honor during the 2005-06 season.

Kind of makes one go hmmmmm? :)

  8. Let's get this thread back on topic:

Three of the 15 people who pleaded guilty to petition fraud charges in Cass County last fall – all three of them former North Dakota State University football players – failed to complete the community service required by their probation agreements, authorities allege in court records.A fourth ex-player among the group of defendants – which at the time the charges were filed in September included 10 current Bison football players and three former players – was accused of checking in for his required community service jobs and then ditching out, once when he was supposed to be filling sandbags in Fargo.

So after spending at least 4 years "studying" at FU these four "forever bison" chose to walk away from their responsibilities and throw their school, team and coach under the bus - which is what they did by making this a public issue once again. Wonder if there will be an asterisk by their name in the FU champions room.

How much have ex-UND hockey players given back from their million dollar contracts?
  9. I like the idea of winning real Division 1 titles versus the JV titles. If Silo Tech is so great why don't they play with the big boys instead of the little sisters? Furthermore, when Silo Tech consistently is in the top teams have a real shot at a title year in and tear out like UND does then maybe they can brag a little. Until that time though they should just go back and sit at the table with the little sisters and have an imaginary tea party with tea and crumpets.

  10. As I've said on other occassions, the mistate concerns me but what comes after is what I'm interested in.

Clearly Gothberg et al learned nothing. I'm bitterly disappointed in that group.

And clearly these former NDSU footballers don't understand what a sweet deal they had from the court system ... key word being 'had'. Now I suspect a judge will 'offer' them an opportunity for a deeper understanding of what court imposed sentence means.

And somewhere the ND Sec of State and ND AG (the two who had to deal with petition-gate) just shake their heads and say ...

Neither did Gothberg for that matter. I am still wondering who paid the lawyer. It cost me a little better than 2K to get my sort of niece a good plea bargain on a simple possession/paraphernalia charges. Had to put down a 3K retainer even. $250 an hour outside of court and $350 an hour in court. Billed in 15 minute increments. Why I told her don't call him let him call you. Each 5 minute phone call would have cost me $62.50.

They still are not going to get sheet.
  12. Since when do Fan Forums and Institutional Control have anything to do with each other? If stupid fans got athletic programs in trouble, we wouldn't have college sports, including sports at your school.

In the larger scheme of things, I can certainly see where college students would, in their minds, minimize the legal remifications of voter fraud where they were just trying to make a few bucks to collect some names. Certainly a dumb move, and poor judgement on thier part. While I'm sure there is now a whole semester course dedicated to "Voter Fraud Law" at UND's Law school, I can see where some kids from TX and FL maybe didn't take their punishment as seriously as they should have. It's not like they were contributing to underage drinking where kids were hospitalized, or dealing illegal drugs or anything.

You just keep making a big deal about this thread dedicated to NDSU. If it helps to keep football relavant at UND any negative UND topics buried deep for no one to see, all the better. Keep it going, you are almost to 100.

I have to agree with the Bison fans here. They have always said that they were dumb for doing it. I don't see them ragging on Gothberg for his second minor. Gothberg got his deferment the first time around. Since he has violated that deferment should he now get the full punishment? Not just for the second but both? Which means a $1000 fine and 30 days for the second. The deferred part of the $1000 for the first and 30 days, not to run concurrently.
  13. No worries dude, I got a wife nipping at my heels and I wish I had more hours in a day than I do now. :) I actually have a semi new lap top computer that I have to send back to the company (under warranty) that I have already worn out.

I always heard that those porn sites will do it every time. :)
  14. I like it....I still think we're going to be a lot better than people think. Those freshman are all nice players.

Real good chance many of them could step right up and make an impact. They sure will be pushing the guys ahead of them.
