Officials need to take control of the game and immediately skate these players to the tunnel before their five minute center ice conversations. An immediate escort to the locker room enforces a zero tolerance policy on cheap shots. I know there are some borderline calls that need discussion, but this one was as black and white as it comes. Of course, one of the four in black and white would have to be able to quickly identify the guilty party in order to skate them to the tunnel.
  3. They just showed a picture of Dean Blais on David Letterman. They did a spin-off of their small town news bit called "Guys that look like Dave". They showed a picture of Blais taken from a promo for the Fargo Force that must have been in the paper. Dave said that they could have the coach host one night in his place. He also joked about the coach "dressing up" for the picture.
  4. Both seats are in the student section which is being sold as general admission for this series. The tickets state that beer is allowed. I am selling them at face value. The tickets were purchased through ticketmaster and printed so I can email them to you within minutes. I would prefer to use paypal but would be open to other options. First come, first serve. I believe that these tickets are lower bowl however I could not get REA to confirm that today. The staff at the ticket counter did not understand that the tickets for this series are being sold in a different manner than most series. I think the actual student tickets for this series are upper bowl, and since the students are on break they sold the lower bowl student seats to the general public in this manner. I am going to try again tomorrow to verify this with REA. The information directly from the ticket is listed below. North Dakota Fighting Sioux Men's Hockey vs. U of MN Golden Gophers Ralph Engelstad Arena, Grand Forks, ND 01/09/09 - 07:37 PM Section Row Type Ticket Price Building/Facility Charge Convenience Charge Description STUD G26 ADULT US $37.50 US $2.50 US $4.50 STUD G26 ADULT US $37.50 US $2.50 US $4.50 Seats:127 to 128 Charge Summary Item Charge Tickets ADULT Tickets Total Convenience Charge(s) US $37.50 x 2 US $4.50 x 2 Total Building Facility Charge(s) US $2.50 x 2 Additional Tax US $0.60 Order Processing Charge US $3.79 TicketFast
  5. I think you may be jumping to conclusions. My first take was that the flames are probably meant to mimic the flames on a hot rod that would be found on the historic muscle cars from the MotorCity.
  6. I have to admit I don't know too much about where the situation happened, but why is the stupid mascot walking around where the Sioux players are after the game. You play with fire, your gonna get burned. You walk around the opposing team with hockey sticks after taunting them all weekend, you gonna get smacked. I'm not defending what he did but come on; survival of the fittest I say.
  7. I have been talking with the guy that sits next to me about this since The Ralph opened. Here is my suggestion: 1) Publicize like crazy for all Sioux fans to wear green to that particular game 2) For those that miss the memo, The Ralph Pro Shop could work with sponsers to sell plain green "Sioux" shirts (like the Sioux Crew shirts) for like $3 or $5 bucks a pop To me this is a win/win. The Ralph doesn't have to buy 11,000 shirts. The person that only comes to one game a year and doesn't hear about the Green Out can participate for $3 or $5 bucks. A sponser could get there name on the back of a T-Shirt. Even if The Ralph can't find a sponser I still think it would be feasible if they buy thousands of T-Shirts in bulk.
  8. Maybe someone can shed more light on the subject but I had a good friend in high school that was a goalie. He always hated playing against teams that wore black ( or very dark) jerseys because he said it is so much tougher to pick up the pucks when you have guys in front setting screens. It always made sense to me. A black puck on a white jersey, pretty easy to pick up. A black puck on a black jersey, a whole lot tougher to see.
  9. I don't always understand their attendance explanation. If the Sioux didn't make the West Regional in Grand Forks last year I would have rather watched teams like Boston College/Michigan, etc than watch Minnesota and Denver for example at the Ralph. I get to see those teams play on a yearly basis. A "close" team makes sense. In last years case the Minnesota fans defineatly drove to The Ralph and had UND not made it the fans still would have made a great atmostphere. However, things are a little different in Denver. The closest WCHA school in the tournement is 1033 miles away. If I was a Denver fan I'm not sure I would be overly excited to have two WCHA teams in that bracket. Sure a Sioux/Gophers rematch would be epic and a fun game for all but the joy of the NCAA tournement is to see teams you don't get to see. I'm fine if it happens based on PWR but unless it is in someone host arena I don't think it should be a major concern. Do you buy that more people will go to the West Regional because two WCHA teams are there?
  10. The USCHO bracketology predicts Air Force vs Minnesota, Michigan vs North Dakota in Denver at the West Regional. Although a Minnesota/North Dakota rematch would be an unbelievable game, I can't help but wish that it would wait until St. Louis. The rest of the bracketology can be found here: Visit USCHO They seem to make a few more "assumptions" this year but they always seem to be close. I guess we will have to wait for the selection show to know for sure.
  11. Folllowing the game I wrote a nice (in my opinion at least) email to Shepherd and McCloud about the state of officiating. I explained that I understand on any given night at least one teams fans are usually upset, but I explained that I am concerned about the MAJOR things being missed especially in the last 10 seconds of the game and highlighted the St. Cloud and Michigan Tech games. St. Cloud- gave the benefit of the doubt on not calling the penalty shot, but not for allowing St. Cloud to have the FULL # OF PLAYERS ON THE ICE even though they had 1 guy in the box Michigan Tech- not only did they not award the penalty shot they didn't even award a DELAY OF GAME PENALTY for covering the puck in the crease Here is the response I got from Shepherd: I realize he was in a hurry but I would suggest the use of spell check.

    Swept again!

1)I just cannot believe the number of people that so strongly support Lammy. I certainly do not believe he is even the biggest portion of our current problems but I don't see why so many people think he is a big time goalie. You can blame it on a newbie but I have been a Sioux fan my whole life. My parents have owned season tickets since the old Ralph opened, my grandpa well into the The Barn. Lammy is as good as anyone at making the first save (most of the time) but the majority of the time he is so far out of position that rebounds can be tapped in. I have never seen a goalie lay forward on their stomach so often- that covers 1/10th of the net. If you are going to flop around on the ice, at least lay on your side and stack the pads. He has been given the chance to have the starting spot time and time again, and has lost it time and time again. We will take our lumps with Greico but I can live with that in a 17 year old freshman. Not all teams have goaltenders that can steal a game, we just need to have one that won't lose it. 2) HIT SOMEBODY-- when they come across the blue line, when they have the puck in their skates behind the net, whenever you can. Make the other team think they have less than forever to decide what to do with the puck. Perhaps you can capitalize on some of the other teams mistakes.
  13. I believe that Grieco will be a goalie that challenges for the starting position by the end of the year. The more experience he gets under his belt the better. It would be nice to see how he bounces back and plays in a Saturday night game. I think Walski is a very capable goalie, watching him play for the Bismarck Bobcats however he didn't impress me as a D1 style goalie.

    Goalie

I don't want to be the the downer, but I would have to say this is the most nervous I have been about goaltending in many years. Maybe it is because I'm not from Grand Forks, but Lammy to me has a great tencency to go to the ice and "flop" for saves. If the denfense rises to the occasion Lammy is as good as anyone at making the first save. Hopefully he has/will become better at controlling the rebounds and staying in position for a second shot. I don't think it will be the "weak" spot this year. The further we go in the season the better off we will be as everyone gets more experience.
