  1. I would say that the kid is going to do some jail time, that guy is probably low level dealer. They "might" let him plead down if he gives up his supplier to the drug task force. This is really not minor either...

He won't do any time. At most some weekends, but no real time. Low level? The kid is a nickle and dime hustler who at most gets a quarter pound. Pushing it a half pound based on the amount of the 2 postal orders. My guess is that the Moriarty kid got popped and gave up his buudy.
  2. I've seen how people act when they're under the influence of marijuana. Otherwise intelligent people turn into imbeciles. I can't even stand to be in the presence of somebody who is stoned.

But being around loud drunks is ok? Sorry but most of the time you could not even tell if someone was loaded.

  3. I think "reefer madness" may have been a bit before my time. I'm a product of the "just say no" generation.

You remind me of a criminal justice major. All they know is what they have read and not from what they have seen or experianced. Simply they know squat just like you.

  4. Denial. The fact of the matter is that most people who eventually get hooked on a stronger drug like cocaine/heroin/meth started with marijuana and worked their way up. To deny that fact is just pure fiction and a desperate attempt by potheads to deflect.

The biggest gateway drug, a legal one at that, are cigarettes.

  5. Precisely. As Prohibition adequately demonstrated, the only people who benefit from "wars" on various subtances, for religious, moral or whatever reasons are criminals who deal the stuff, governmental agencies who enforce the "law" and the "do gooders" who push their respective agendas. I'm surprised the GF "Drug Task Force" hasn't tried to seize the Phi Delt house and sell it at auction ... yet.

You know they could easily sieze the property and sell it.
  6. Best Buy is just the tip of the iceberg. There could be much more going on in Fargo. Much, much, more. After all, nobody would have suspected anything at Penn State just a few weeks ago.

Yup. NDSU. Much, much more. Because the Penn State fans thought the same way some people on the NDSU campus did, now look at them.

They live in the same world of denial as people at UND do.
  7. What do you want? This is a story that when hearing details from the grand jury report make me physically ill. I can not fathom something like this happening EVER, let alone at UND. You are asking a question to which there is no answer. You have no idea what the response would be at any school, workplace, shopping center, etc. As a society we have to expect that people would do the right thing and turn in the person that was committing such heinous acts. To expect a cover-up of the magnitude of Penn State's to occur at UND says alot about you as a person.

Welcome to the real world then. It can and does happen everywhere. We all like to think it could never happen here but it could just as easily as anywhere else. How many thought that Pat Peake (track coach in Grand Forks) would go to jail for having a sexual relationship with a minor? My main point is that people are blasting away at Penn because they want to convince themselves it could not happen at their school. Sorry folks you are not immune. I just wanted people to step back and think how would we react if it happened here?
  8. Everything is addictive. Coffee, Mountain Dew, fast food, the internet, you name it... pretty much anything can be addictive. The point is that pot is such a lowlife activity that who in their right mind would want to try it? What if you like it? Then you'll want to do it again and again and again until pretty soon you turn into Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times At Ridgemont High or Leo from That '70s Show. Nobody wants to be that guy, living in your parents' basement when you're 40 because you spend all of your disposable income on drugs and can't afford a place of your own. Smoking pot is the first step towards becoming that guy, which is why I find it laughable that anybody could try to make the argument that it is harmless. I knew people in high school who smoked pot, and I have seen what they've turned into as adults.

Yeah and I know people who smoked pot in highschool and became doctors, lawyers, CFOs of large companies, teachers, elected officials, business owners, etc.. Your point is? I also know people who drank in highschool and have spent the rest of their lifes collecting sports on tape. What about Sioux hockey players over the years? Do you think that none of them ever smoked pot? Remember when Hrkac got suspended in his freshman year for smoking pot? You would be amazed at who smoked on the hockey team.
  9. Cause we like to think if a coach knows a guy in the administration has sex in his showers with young boys, the said coach would want to see that guy face criminal charges.....at least after the 3rd time? But wait the posts above even say the Penn State police even know about it, but did nothing. Failure at so many levels.

It's like WTF...everything else aside. Public showers?

Just because you like to think it does not make it so. The fans at Penn probably thought the same way and now look at them.
  10. I think what happened at Phi Delta was ridiculous.

Did the Herald article note that the majority of kids who live there were cleared of any wrongdoing? No, but that is a fact.

Was it really necessary to handle this situation with a full drug task force or could this one kid have been arrested leaving the building and then searched? It seems to me like a fishing expedition.

It should also be noted that every kid cited for "drug related charges" was charged with a "ticket" type offense other than one. Every kid charged is also entitled to their day in court, and they are innocent until proven guilty.

If this is how the "war on drugs" works, I would say it is a total failure.

You got that right. Maybe they were working on the idea that all these punks will give up someone else?
  11. Read my post again, I said ILLEGAL drugs. Alcohol and caffiene may be technically classified as drugs but they are not illegal. Because they're not illegal they are socially acceptable. Pot is not harmless. It is addictive and turns people into nonproductive members of society who live in their parents' basements 20+ years after high school and in many cases leads to the use of other illegal drugs.

Look at what alcohol has done for you? Lead you to collect sporting events on tape. You would be amazed at who smokes dope in Grand Forks.

  12. If this happened in the UND hockey program do you really think the cover-up would be different? Think about all the times players have been benched and the "problem" was being handled inside the program. UND is no different or better than the rest.

  13. Did you read the whole article?

"During the initial sweep of the house, officers saw multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia in plain view. They confiscated half an ounce of marijuana, several pipes, baggies, a marijuana grinder and a digital scale in Miller’s room.

Miller was read his Miranda rights and agreed to an interview, during which he told police that he sold marijuana and where they could find drugs and paraphernalia in his room, police documents say."

Here's how I read it. They found 1/2 an ounce in plain view, arrested the kid, who in turn agreed to be interviewed. During that interview, he tells them where to find more drugs and paraphernalia in his room.

How many ounces have to be found/confiscated to make the search warrant worth it?

Read the sentence that you put in bold again. They got the half in his room. As usual the Herald writers do not put sentences in proper order. To answer your question get at least a pound to make it worthwhile.
  14. Finally, we agree on something :) I can't believe it's the 21st century and we still waste time and resources making sure people do not use a harmless, natural stimulant like marijuana.

Miracles do happen. Why waste time, money, and resources on this? The fines will not even cover the money that was wasted here.
  15. I'm saying we shouldn't point fingers. I was around back in the 90s when we were not very good and they were. It didn't stop us from hating on them in the very same way. Never has and never will whether we are up or down as a team.

Attending law school at the University of Minnesota?
