  1. So it's fine for you to admit NSDU wants to play and in fact purposely schedules "patsies" but you still bash UND for its 2011 schedule? Oh, the hypocrisy.

UND's schedule is notorious for being weak. NDSU does play a bad team every year, sometimes two, but we also schedule FBS games annually. Yes, you scheduled Texas Tech, well done, but I'm not giving you bonus points for accepting money to go get killed by a team in transition.

  2. Sigh ... revising history must be so rewarding

    1. NDSU chose to leave the NCC

    2. NDSU chose to leave DII

    3. NDSU had lost 10 of the last 11 football games to UND

    4. NDSU was all about maintaining the football game once they had dozens more scholarships than UND and were recruiting at the DI transition level5. UND was still eligible for making DII playoffs and hosting playoff games - playing outside DII had been proven to hurt a team's DII playoff and hosting opportunities.

Must be rewarding? You might know a little something about it.

    1. Invited the other Dakota schools and informed them we were thinking about it...hmm...UND/USD see that NDSU/SDSU are doing good and follow suit...

    2. I guess winning 97, 98, 2000, only counts as one game? And I think a playoff win for the bison is somewhere in there too, maybe some for the Sioux as well, not sure.

    3. UND cut ties with NDSU, straight and simple because "it'd hurt hosting playoff games," last time I checked, you guys won't even be allowed that opportunity for well.....eternity now so it must not have been that important to you then either. So I do not think that would be a valid argument.

UND had the opportunity to move up with NDSU, decided not to, and in the first few years of our transition, the game still would have been fine as you do not get all the scholarships right away on the field.

For the issues of scheduling right now, both sides can point fingers but UND has nothing to lose right now, they are getting terrible attendence(we'll see if new conference helps), losing a lot of games, etc.

NDSU has more to lose, recruiting battles, money(don't want to waste time on road OOC games). I still want it on the schedule, but only if it doesn't interfere with NDSU's current goals, the Nickel isn't what I want, I just want to see how bad NDSU would lay the wood down on UND right now.

  3. Patsies?? Is that what 3-8 NDSU was in 2009? If thats what a 3-8 team is we were patsies last season. Far as I know we beat you the last time we played so I believe you are the patsy and we have the trophy to prove it...since its been a long time since you have seen it its a round nickel with an Indian on one side and a bison on the other. :D

Its been a long time since UND left the rivalry......

  4. We don't need to keep going on about this but I know for a fact UND recruited him as a safety, not a QB. We will see how it plays out.

NDSU needed qb depth at the time. He wouldn't have a chance to contribute at safety. But yes, thornton convo over.

SCHEDULE THE GAME SOON! Just a 2 game home-and-home...

  5. Put it this way Dan, if Esley is going to be your starting QB I am going to call Faison and beg / plead to start the rivalry up again...immediately.

Ok, you know you want Thornton, no don't do this crap. He is a very good football player. He committed to the Bison very early so might that be a reason UND didn't go after him that hard.

  6. Sorry about replying to my own post, but I do think it is ironic that one of authors is from the University of Iowa and looking at the origin of the word "Hawkeye". If you go the University of Iowa website you get:

The term "Hawkeye" originally appeared in the book, The Last of the Mohicans, and was later used in its plural form to describe the people of Iowa. Soon thereafter, the University of Iowa borrowed this nickname for its athletic teams.

Look at it a bit more and you get this:

the 29th state, known as the hawkeye state, is named as a tribute to chief Black Hawk, leader of the Sac Indians, who after the tribes unsuccessful fight against the white settlers, were relocated to Iowa, a state named from the iowa river, after the ioway indians

Plus, you have University of Iowa

  7. The Florida State traditions are cool, you can't deny it. You have to admit that they do it right. Way back in the day... the 80's for many of you on here that was back in the day, I got to attend a FSU game at Doak versus Auburn. The stadium has since been remodelled. But the chop & chant was just amazing-your skin was tingling and when Chief Osceola road in on that white horse with that flaming spear- during a night game no less- it was mind blowing. To be honest with you, I think if we had more of that stuff... I think the name and logo would be that much more popular and would be that much more difficult for the NCAA to deal with.

I do enjoy the traditions they do, I hate their teams, but I do think the stuff they do is pretty cool beans.

  8. Florida State is not sanctioned by the NCAA for its use of the "Seminole" nickname and imagery - On a flight today I picked a copy of Sky Magazine and in browsing through it found an advertisement for Florida State's College of Business and Management. The ad was a professor with maroon and yellow war paint striped on his face with the caption -" FSU - war paint for the business of business". What the hell is the definintion of "hostile and abusive" and how can any organization that does not censure this kind of publicity from one of its (acceptable nickname) members, penalize an institution that goes out of its way to avoid such uses of native imagery? Did the Turtle Mountain Tribal Council fully appreciate what they were approving when they passed their resolution supporting the NCAA policy on native nicknames and imagery - the "war paint" ad from Florida State will not even appear on the radar of the NCAA, yet is exactly the kind of stereotyping the NCAA, nickname opponents, and tribal councils such as Turtle Mountain claim to be most offensive. For the NCAA to ignore examples such as this, while promising to enforce all its sanctions against another institution in its membership is hypocrisy of Biblical proportion.

If I remember correctly, the Seminole tribes in Florida demanded that the school keep the nickname. Florida St. probably gives them a ton of money too. They also have one of the most recognizable fight songs, they appear to be extremely close with the tribes down in Tallahassee.

  9. Are we speaking Chinese here? You are irrelevent to us, we have moooved on. You have your own Bisonswille board to post on including a smack thread that reflects your integrity and your fixation. Your disfunctional insecure immature fans already ruin every attempt at an intelligent discussion on the newspaper comment boards. Please go to the boards of your new-found rivals and make enemies there. We are in a different conference, one that now is not good enough for you, we never win a recruiting competition with you, the newspapers hate your team, they love our team, your players never do anything wrong, you do everything right, we do everything wrong, you had the best president in the country until we drove him off, we are a one sport school, you are smarter than us, have I fed your dillusional minds enough or is there more to be said to feed your inferiority complex?

Someone asked about the Qb situation

  10. Do Bison fans want to see Thornton beat out Jenson? I would certainly like to see a ND kid succeed at QB.

I don't think people really care, I personally want Jensen but I really can't be sure about everyone.

I have two theories about Jensen/Thornton.

    1. If Thornton beats out Jensen that is great because we know for sure we will have an upgrade at our QB situation. Thornton is also a North Dakotan which is always fun to see our guys succeeding. He was a multi-sport star and would give us a more flashy leader of the offense. I also played against him in high school and even intercepted him when we were younger, so I'd be able to boast about that when I'm at the bars. Jensen also got dinged up a couple times last year and I'd rather not have to see our starter not finishing games.

    2. If Jensen retains the starting job it is great because he is very responsible with the ball in his hands. He doesn't screw up too much mentally and could provide stability at the position for 3 more seasons. He also has a no-nonsense running attitude and plays with a ton of fire. He throws a nice deep ball and does a good job not taking big sacks. He is extremely mature in interviews and definitely is what you want in an NDSU quarterback! Even got a minor this school year, so clearly he fits the NDSU players mold.

So as you can see, those are the two options, as far as I'm concerned, some other Herd fans should be able to give you a better idea of the situation.

  11. You do realize a very large percentage of Fargo residents can not stand the Bison and yet you claim they have North Dakota by the balls. Are you the guy on Bisonville that thinks NDSU is going to be in the Big 10 in a couple of years?

No I do not think NDSU will be going FBS(especially big ten lol). Yes, some Fargoans do not like the Bison(a ton of them aren't even from North Dakota), some folks in Minneapolis don't like the Vikes, some of people in Grand Forks aren't going to like the Sioux. As far as football fans go, NDSU has more than UND, there is a reason NDSU averages in a bad year, 15,000 fans and UND's arena can't even hold that. We probably have as many people tailgating as UND gets for games(ok, not quite) That isn't to trash UND at all, just a fact.

While it is great for UND to get some of their football games on tv, I'm GUESSING that not many people are even glancing at those channels during football season, at least back home on our directv or dish(whatever we have) it is a 600's channel or something like that and when i see it I know I am close to finding the Twins game. I would enjoy if NDSU's road games were televised every time.

As far as who the game would help more, the answer to that would probably be UND. Y'all are having a rough time in your transition which can be a crapshoot, we had a great one, Northern Colorado(was a good school) had a terrible one, a win over NDSU right now would start helping UND land the local recruits that NDSU has taken the past 6 or 7 years now. It was on the News a couple of years ago(maybe 2010? not sure) that NDSU didn't lose a single recruiting contest to UND or SDSU. However, I wouldn't mind playing this year, I think a a beatdown would be long overdue ;)

Please do not hate on this at all, I voted that they should play sometimes, and if they could play every year with a 12th game that'd be pretty cool. And yes, UND did have a good last 10 years of the series, in Fargo we like to blame Babich for it.

  12. Time to give it up and troll in other waters.

Ah I apologize my friend, for throwing out different ideas. Trolling would insinuate that I, HowBoutThemBison?, am trying to upset people with that comment I put regarding NCAA and NAIA. If you would like me to troll, I can do that. Here would be a troll translation for my comment.

The "Whioux" suck so bad, they are super terrible. No one cares at all about them. They can't say its a monopoly when they can go chill out in NAIA where they belong, because they are that bad at sports!

^^^^^^^ That would be a troll comment. I hope I taught you something about trolling, if that one example is not enough, you can check out about half my posts on siouxsports.com as some of them are very confrontational and trollish, the other half are not. If you have difficulty in finding these posts or figuring out which ones are trollish, and which ones are not, I would be MORE than happy to help you out. Also, if you would like to see other "styles" on trolling, go on any sports site for teams in the area, and look for Lakesbison posts, as they are often times described by friends and foes alike as "trollish." Again, if you cannot find examples and would like to see some, I would be more than willing to help you out.

  13. No point in ever playing them again.................

We set our attendance record with Texas A&M-Kingsville and Wisconsin-Lacrosse on the home schedule..................

The very last North Dakota-NDSU game didn't even sell out in the smaller of the two possible venues...........................

They crave the exposure that would come from playing us, and we get enough the way it is, so why help them out?

Let Gene Taylor come up with a new annual excuse as to why he's not allowed to let the game happen......................that's been hilarious every year for 7 years running! :D

Cause nothing says exposure like playing a team that lost to Sioux Falls. NDSU has North Dakota and NW Minnesota by the balls when it comes to football exposure, similar to UND's control over the same area in hockey. I'd like to see them play for time to time or if a 12 game schedule was adopted they could play every year. As for Gene, its not just him who isn't really allowing the game, UND is at fault too. At least Gene can say that UND left NDSU out to dry when we went division 1, UND can't really complain that NDSU doesn't feel the need to play anymore cause UND stopped it to begin with. It is kind of like being pissed off when you dump someone, and later when you want them back they don't really want to be with you anymore.

  14. He should go to Air Force, veer, best education he can get out of any of the listed schools, and a ton of prestige that goes along with the Academy. Referring to Mollberg.

  15. Judging from today's herald, some of the world's best hockey recruits are set to arrive in the fall, funny how that issue of

recruiting doesn't affect the hockey program. The world's elite talents still wish to play here. The program continues to sponser

the entire athletic department , has the most connection to Fighting Sioux, and is annually a national powerhouse. What a reason

to smile, glad my expectations aren't tied to the Bisonville pigskin.

What if the new NCAA playoff hockey proposal gets passed? Would that change your guys minds about the nickname? Being a top team and then travelling to say....Notre Dame or Maine for a playoff series(we all saw how the maine series worked out)

  16. Florida and Florida State have no problem with their OOC rivalry. I just don't get why playing UND every year is "stupid". You have 3 OOC games just like us. There is NO requirement that you have to have a FBS game, or 6 home games.

For us there is, we like going and playing with the big boys. And we sell enough tickets that wasting an away game on a middle of the road team (currently, thats being generous describing UND), we also like having 6 home games. There is no reason NDSU shouldn't have 6 every year.

  17. I wonder how much Phil Jackson is worth. He is making $13M/year as coach of the Lakers. I'm sure he has many investments as well.

From what I HEARD(rumors), he won't give a dime to the UND fighting sioux, maybe some other name.

  18. I am actually in favor of getting rid of all automatic bids.

It will eliminate the "Little sisters of the poor" argument and lead to the best situation of all: Playoffs.

    Why?

Because then teams like BSU and TCU will get NC consideration and teams that are 6-6 will be doing the right thing: studying for finals or doing other things other than football. Weak teams will make Bowl berths and thus, kill the bowls even without the financial debacle going on.

Then they'll start a playoff system and we'll be happy that there is a real #1 team.

Just don't make the mistake the DI Basketball folks make: 165 teams make the NCAA tourney and if you are one of the 110 teams left out, you make the NIT.

And let's just say if your record is .500 or worse, plan on spending Christmas and New Years at home with family.

Division 1 basketball has the most popular and most profitable system. 68 teams out of like 350 some. It is great, too bad my brackets always get crushed.

  19. Agreed this was a bad situation that UConn got put into which pushed their losses much higher than they would have been, but it's becoming more common to lose money on Bowl appearances even if you're a decent team, the article stated that Virginia Tech lost $2.2 million playing Miami in the Orange Bowl in 2009 and West Virginia lost $1 million playing in the Fiesta Bowl in 2008. It would be interesting to see the final numbers from all 70 teams to see who made or lost money and how much.

I gave a speech on this topic and while this one source I used was about ten years old I am guessing it is only getting worse. 18 of 38 team who REPORTED their income/deficit, lost money. Keep in mind that is not all teams play bowls. If your not a school with a big following or tradition, your kind of boned....
