I voted for the Fighting Hawks! It was the best name out of the bunch by a MILE! I mean the University of North Dakota Nodaks? Really? The North Dakota North Dakotas. Good god.
And the Roughriders? Yeah, let's just steal the local high school's nickname, that's original.
Fighting Hawks sucks, sure. But it's a hell of a lot better than the other crap ass nicknames that were on the ballot.
And the line of "champions club received a record number of donations" doesn't necessarily stand for alumni "support."
You HAVE to donate to the champions club for season hockey tickets. THAT is where the money is coming from, I'd hardly call that a donation to the "university" and say it equals "alumni support." It's simply people that want season hockey tickets.

Wow. Did Hak ever leave Berry a fantastic team for his first year. That was the best passing I've seen by a UND team at this point of the year in a long, long time. 60 more minutes tomorrow night...bring the same effort and we'll get the TCOS.

I spent 6 years at UND in the late 90s/early 00s. I never once heard the "word" Nodak. When it started popping up in the nickname conversation, I wondered how people were thinking that they'd sneak in another tribal name (I had just assumed that's what it was). It is not the unofficial name of the school, it is a stupid contraction of the name of the state, and was by far the worst of the 5 options (way behind Sundogs).

It's the dumbest name by FAR.
It's basically the North Dakota North Dakotas.
And the people who don't realize that are as foolish as the actual name is.

Honestly, reading through this, I'm disappointed in being a Sioux fan right now. Not because my team isn't in the national championship, but because by default I'm associated with this sniveling portion of the fanbase.
I couldn't imagine what one of they players would feel like if they came upon this website, what some of you say about them, and say about their coach who they obviously have a large amount of respect for. It's also clear that this minority, but vocal group, has been heard by the players if a former star of the team feels the need to post a tweet following a semi final loss regarding the coach. Maybe, just maybe, you're incessant complaining about not having your very own natty has played into these kids heads as well.
I can say this, I will continue to support this program, this coach, and these players as long as they are there, and I'm not going to complain about it if they don't win the big one, because I know it means far more to them then it ever would me. I have my entire life to root and cheer for a championship, and it will feel the same whether it's next year, or ten years from now. They only have four to get it done. My heart breaks for Pattyn especially, you can see through his actions and words how much this program means to him. How much these players and the staff that supports them means to him, and this is quite likely the end of the road for his playing career.
Sounds like you are the one doing all of the sniveling here.

John Fox was fired after leading his team to a Super Bowl and NFCCG in back to back seasons.
Why? Because he couldn't close the deal! And in Denver it's Superbowl or bust. Not too crazy to expect the same with arguably the best college hockey team in the nation year in and year out.
We should be in the frozen four. Too much talent year after year not to be in it. Like someone else said...most of us could have gotten some of these teams to the frozen four. Time to hire someone who can WIN one.

For a person who "supports" thousands and thousands of dollars into the program they should know that the University gets more money by going deeper into the post season than not making the post season.

Just sooooooo many BLIND homers. And that's fine if you want to be that way, but to be arrogant and stupid enough to chastise those of us with CHAMPIONSHIP EXPECTATIONS is just ridiculous.
Only on Sioux sports would someone bring up "but our basketball team hasn't won anything in 20 years! THAT'S a REAL drought!" The other classic on this board? Those who are silly enough to throw out puke like , "what would you rather have, a title and 20 bad years after that or being in it every year?!" So........those are the only two choices?
How about the choice of having a last 15 years like BC........DENVER.........or dare I say it.....MINNESOTA? Because I'd certainly take all three of their last 15 years over ours. Those of you who are leaping for joy about winning sooo many Broadmoors, Mcnaughtsons, Penrose, Regionals, etc, etc......may be happy with just "being there", but THIS PROGRAM has wayyyyy to much tradition to be happy with just 'BEING THERE." And excuse us....but some of us are getting sick and damn tired of the constant FAILURE of this team.
The basketball comparison is the best. Here's a concept. Schools usually have what is called a FLAGSHIP program You know....Duke has Basketball.....Alabama has Football......and guess...what.....we have HOCKEY. Do you think Alabama compares there baseball team to their football team? Exactly..it's just as asinine to compare our hockey team to our basketball team.
There is a certain school down south about 80 miles that has a flag ship program. How do they do? Oh yeah....they WIN every damn year.....step UP when the pressure is high.....and CLOSE out games with CLUTCH play. Excuse those of us who expect the SAME DAMN THING out of our FLAGSHIP program.
Another great line from the peanut gallery......"we are spoiled!" Really? Choking our butts off on the big stage YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR is spoiled? Huh....and here I thought NDSU fans were the SPOILED ones. I forgot our definition of spoiled is 'BEING THERE!"
Whatever....those of you who are happy having the chance to play for a title every year and are 100% completely satisfied with that can feel free to do so. But stop being jagoffs and throwing out the "holier than thou" crap of those of us who are such 'BAD FANS" for wanting some damn RESULTS when it matters from our alma matter's flagship program that has the finest facilities in the entire COUNTRY and has had arguably the BEST PLAYERS come through its doors the last 15 years on the planet as well.
Should Hak be fired? I don't know, probably not. But if we keep choking our ass off every year, does it really matter who the coach is? I could coach the team to earning NOTHING in the frozen four year after year. Wait.......I couldn't even get us to the FF you say? You're right...my bad. But tell me this..what does the team who goes to the FF and loses every year get that the teams who don't even make the tournament don't? Oh yeah...they get to break the hearts of their fans every damn year.
We need a change. Whether it's recruiting different players, adjusting to a different style, changing our philosophy, or yes........changing coaches.....SOMETHING needs to change. This is getting DISGUSTING. Meanwhile...the fn clowns down south get to go for "ONE FOR THE THUMB" next year for "their school's sport". I wouldn't mind just ONE of those rings under Hak. Just........O.....N......E.
If that makes me any lesser of a fan then so be it. But I'll tell you this.....I invest thousands.......THOUSANDS of dollars in this program each year I invest countless hours. I've lost sleep over them. I've raised my kids into Sioux fans. I love them with all of my heart. And yes.....I have expectations that include winning a damn title once in 15 years. So if this means I'm "a bad fan who would throw my team under the bus for a title", than I'm G-Damn proud to be a "bad fan."

I got these by sleeping outside for 12 hours and am now sick as a dog because of it. Gotta be kidding me.

I'd say it's been "tough years" for UND Athletics. Good lord....I'll tell you what though, people need to stop worrying about NDSU. They are LIGHT YEARS ahead of us in every sport and to be honest, as much as this hurts to say, they are out of our league when it comes to sports. OUT OF OUR LEAGUE (literally and figuratively).
We are horrid in FB and BB They are winning titles every year in FB, and make the dance every year in BB. This year will be what? 3 of 4 years they make the dance. It's getting pathetic. It was sooooooo great we got into the BIG BAD BIG SKY THOUGH! Give me a break. Put UND into a conference they can compete in for god sakes. This is embarrassing.

Agreed. And regardless of the outcome, Zane Gothberg may have just found himself tonight. This has been an epic performance. Wish he could have that goal back, as it was pretty soft,but he's been SENSATIONAL for 99.9% of the night.
When's the last time we had a goalie "steal" a game for us. This may be a great time!
