  1. And don't forget about UMary. Who would have thought?

Put zero value in these rankings. Impossible to determine that NAIA and Div II teams are better than any Div 1 team. Even someone as bad as we are we would beat these teams on most nights.

My question is how long does Faison put up with this??

I hope not longer than this season...

  2. The only transition going on here is the Sioux men's team going from being a semi-competitve D2 team and transitioning into an absolute embarassment to UND. 45 points in an entire game against a horrible team? Come on. I can almost assure you there are intermural teams at UND that could put up 40 points in a game like this.

You are correct. this team has very little talent. Keep running the Princeton Offense and the talent will not get any better.

In other words...Jones is not a Div 1 coach!!!!! Has shown me absolutely nothing!!! Someone remind me why I should think any different.

  3. As far as the emphasis on the off-court stuff: yes that is a +. Look at Binghamton and their move to DI.

But some of the rest is just excuses for worse than mediocrity. DI mediocrity is 200-300 on the RPI scale. To be on the tale end of a RPI bell curve - dropping 50 points on the RPI from last year - is shameful to UND. Not only are we worse than 98% of DI, but the majority of DII, as well as much of DIII and NAIA.

Our RPI rating indicates that losing to Mayville State is "expected". It was not a bad loss, per se, based on RPI strength.

USD has more disadvantages than UND does, yet they sit 150 points higher on RPI.

There has been a conference affiliation on the horizon an it's been apparent for almost a year. When NDSU recruited their class of 09, they had nothing. NOTHING - crappy facilities, no conference (the Big Sky had just rejected them), no realistic hope for an autobid - the MidCon invited them a couple year later. NDSU had NOTHING yet Miles was able to recruit those players. There are other examples too: Texas A&M - Corpus Christi with Ronnie Arrow was able to recruit as an independent and their first year in the Southland they made the NCAA's and performed well. It is difficult? Yes. Is it impossible? No.

I supported Mussman during this year: by far the worst game was Southern Oregon. His teams pass all the other tests: is the talent building to a higher level, do we have hope for next year, are the athletes performing well in and out of the classroom, are playoffs a reasonable hope once the transition is complete?

For Mussman: yes, yes, yes, yes

For Jones: no, no, yes, no

For Roebuck: no, yes, yes, no

The best post I've ever seen..

    I agree with you 100%.

What does Jones offer us??? Absolutely NOTHING!

  4. What's really sad is that UND is rated 5-10 points less than half the Summit League, which is horrible at the bottom this year. Centenary lost a bunch of players because it's going DIII, yet it would be a five point favorite to UND. NDSU has dropped about 200 spots on the ratings (so much for their perpetual power in Men's BB theory - gone the way of their football power) , to about where we were last year. Yet we dropped 60-70 spots ourselves. :silly:

    263 UMKC = 65.25 4 4 66.94( 336)

    277 IPFW = 64.36 2 6 76.08( 55)

    279 North Dakota State = 64.29 2 6 71.29( 219)

    288 Centenary = 63.78 3 6 70.17( 261)

    311 Southern Utah = 60.86 1 8 73.27( 144)

    319 Western Illinois = 59.32

wow..that's a sad list of Basketball teams.....and we are the worst of the bunch...

I will say it once..I will say it a thousand times..Jones has to GO!!!!!!!

  5. The one thing we gotta remember also, in bball, men's and/or women's, 1 real good recruiting class is all thats required to turn an average or below average team into a great team.

When Buck came here in 87, UND women were not on the radar.......at all. The first year, coach brings Heisler and Chaske with him, and they go to the University of Arizona and win!!

BBall can turn quickly.............not this year............but it doesn't take 3 or 4 years to start winning.

Coach I totally agree. But in my opinion that would come with a change to the head mens coach and women who knows??

I am willing to give Gene the benefit of the doubt..he's earned it....but Jones has showed me nothing!!!

  6. What don't you like about Miller? The kid put up great numbers for the best team in North Dakota. You can't argue that he can't play the game. Some guys can just play and get it done. I think there where more than one good back in ND this year. There where two that where almost identical players and we got one. As far as Carr, I'm willing to take a chance on a kid that averaged more than 10 yds per carry. I made a few phone calls to some work associates I have from the western part of the state and heard a lot of good things about this guy. Heard he is a guy with a lot of talent. These are guys that saw him play on more than one occasion and a guy that coached against him was very impressed. Overall I'm very happy.

fgoSioux, every post you have is negative in some way so you may as well go back to bisonville. I'm sure in your mind these guys aren't good enough to play for your 3-8 bison. Thats fine, we'll let the coaches at UND who have put together 3 real solid recuiting classes in a row do thier thing. If you where a Sioux fan and been to a game this year you would know that.

    That's funny..because I'm not a kool-aid drinker I'm now a Bison fan??? Funny stuff.

Again, In my humble opinon Miller is no way a Div 1 player. Not at that size without break away speed. Great he was a player in North Dakota..the hotbed for Div 1 football players.

Carr, not Div 1, Beck(Langdon) not Div 1, Gefroh GF not Div 1

Smith no doubt..Thorton??? maybe..has a lot of work to do.

In my opinion if were going to be successful a this level we can't just sign a couple of kids from N.Dak every year just to make it look good.

I want kids that can help us WIN!!!!

  7. The idea behind the Princeton offense is that it is easier to recruit the talent to make that work, then to try and recruit the talent we would need to run up and down the floor with the likes of Texas.....

Not even close...the Princeton offense is for teams that can not and will never recruit talent(like Princeton) to be able to lul people to sleep and beat them on backdoors and keep you in games by running the shot clock down to the last second.

yes it's easy to recruit because you can take any stiff off the street with zero talent and run it.

I have been watching on this board and just recently starting posting.

I have been consistent with my message and that is we have zero talent on this team...That is the coaches fault...The coach in my opinion has zero to offer this University.

To say we can't recruit players when NDSU can is ludicruis!!!!

We need a coach with a vision and someone who can recruit to turn this around.

In no way is Jones that guy!!

  8. I kind of thought the reason Jones decided on the Princeton offense was he felt like he wouldn't get the recruits to run a Big 10 type of offense. When it was announced the Sioux were going to the Princeton style offense, I applauded it because I somewhat agree with running the Princeton offense at UND. I'm still hopeful that it will work out.

Well in my humble opinion if NDSU can do what they did there is no reason we should not be able to do the same.

They were god awful in Div II and look where they are now.

If this coach can't recruit better players we need someone who can plain and simple.

Princeton offense is so sad to watch...the ONLY thing it does is allow us not to get completely blown out on an every game basis.

  9. I notice the posting time on this was 2:00 AM, probably conjured up by a few students sitting at Perkins with a laptop after all other entertainment was completed for the night. As the law enforcement agencies like to say "Alcohol was a contributing factor."

I hope so!!!! One of the funniest reads in a long time!!!!

  10. I wonder how many of SDSU's football playoff roster guys we're tagged as "not quite DI material" when they were brought in.

    Performance matters.

Totally agree. But we have a lot more to offer than SDSU in school, town, facilities.

To be the size of Miller you'd better be blazing fast at this level and from what I've witnessed he doesn't possess that type of speed.

Of course both of these might be partial scholarships and that is a bit different.

I just don't want us to offer kids because they are from N.Dak. I want to offer kids that can help us get to a level we can compete for a national championship.

Sorry for the negativity. I have just been very frustrated with what I have seen out of my two fav. sports..mens BB and football....

  11. Now he can be a moron on two different user accounts.

:glare: Not sure what your talking about...but I am a little tired of putting up with avg recruiting in all sports(besides hockey) and acting like everything is A OK

Miller is no way fast enough to play at this level in my opinion...

Trey Demler is an excellent recruit!!!! We need more like that...

There was one RB recruit from NDak this year..unfortunatley we didn't get him.

Sorry if the truth hurts and I'm negative.

But I for one am sick of the avg coaching and recruiting in my fav two sports...

  12. Two more verbal commitments. RB Jake Miller from Bismarck High and RB Baylee Carr from Hazen have apparently, according to a couple sources out West, both committed to the Sioux! Always good to get some in state talent. :glare:

    Agree, like in-state talent.

Problem is I have seen both these kids play and don't think they are Div 1 players.

    div II yes..not div 1

  13. There is no way there is enough talent or depth on this team for them to be running "up and down the floor." There aren't nearly enough athletes for this team to play up tempo.

They are playing the hand they have the best way they can; taking fewer shots and limiting possessions of the other team. Unfortunately, taking fewer shots only works when you make them. This team, without Bledsoe, hasn't made anything.

Totally agree, we start running and we start losing by 30-40 points.

Let's face the facts. This team has very little talent on it. Trust me go to a game and watch. Not a lot of Div 1 talent out there.

Remember, this team struggled to beat teams in the DAC...so far this year I'm not seeing a big improvement in talent.

  14. you guys ever get the impression that you are very arrogant? what have you guys ever done? after being on this board i'm starting to favor NDSU :glare:

On the football field at Div 1 absolutely nothing. Lost to an NAIA team..almost lost to another one.

We did beat UNI!!!! That's something to hang our hats on.

What we need to do it support the team better, win some more games, and actually beat someone worth while.

Until that happens our football program will be average like this year at best.

  15. Agree with a lot of what you said. The stuff I highlighted, I would challenge. I don't believe we have a lot of players who we "out recruited" over other DI schools.

I have to agree with the above statement. In my opinion we have 3-4 Div althletes on this team.

the rest should be playing Div. II

Personally coach Jones hasn't showed me much. If we weren't playing the Princeton offense we would be getting slaughtered.

Also good luck on recruting bigtime talent to a school that runs this offense. Players want to score points..not 40-50 total per night.

That and not being in a real conference make it very difficult to recruit.
