  1. Because kids have parents and the good ones want to know what the school can offer academically. UND has a big advantage. Big Sky is a more attractive schedule for travel. Montana, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, California, Colorado,, Utah, Oregon and Idaho. UND is upgrading their facilities and has a great campus and facilities. Graduates do well. You sell the kid on his opportunity to be part of something special at UND rather than choosing a school based on their past. That is what good recruiters can do. Not sure I would want to go to war with folks who give up so easily.

Ok, Ill bite..If we have had such and advantage why are we in the position we are in?? I am an official in MN for HS football. Worked several years in ND but have worked MN the past two seasons. Trust me UND is down the list for players/coachs. NDSU/UNI are king followed by SDSU. UNI still does a very good job and has a track record to show recruits. Then it's us.

What most of my friends and most of you included fail to see is this isn't Div II anymore..The reason SU came back to the pack was a reduction in scholarships. We can't count on that again. Plus they have an actual brand in Div I FCS football. What do we have?? What's our big win??? Montana at home last year??

Also the Big Sky offers more for travel? Do you honestly think most parents can afford to fly to every away game? In the Valley most schools can be driven to. Families can actually attend the games. I totally don't get that? Again if these are such advantages where have the recruits been?

BTW I'm not giving up. Very, very happy Muss is gone. Called for his head years ago...Personally I am so tired of the mediocrity in all programs except WVB and Hockey. Not happy with our AD at all. Gave Muss way too long. Plus taking as long as it did to hire a coach did not help the current situation we are in.

One last thing. When I said we are going to get Div II talent this year is if I was a kid and getting recruiting by the local schools and others UND would be darn low on the list. The only reason we would have a chance is to promise playing time. Just facts. My kids make fun of me being a UND alum/fan. I am so sick of taking the crap I do at home regarding football. Neighbors included so If I come off as negative//well I am!!!

In closing of course we have a great academic institution! But I could list great schools across the country that have avg/bad football programs.

  2. The cupboard is going to be damn near empty for UND next year. People need to realize it. The difference between the two rosters is enormous.

Thank god there is one voice of sanity on this board. Again I'll ask this question. If you are a recruit why in the hell would you choose UND over SU?? Playing time?? People are saying wait til this class is signed. Are you f#$#$%$ kidding me? The type of kids we are going to get at this point are Div II talent...Like the last two kids we just offered. There isn't a chance in hell we get those type of players this year...Zero chance...Have you looked at the kids that have Verballed to Su? We would take half that class and be happy as hell!! They still have another 8-10 kids to add....Again on those kids if we are head to head does anyone think a kid would choose us??/

Reality check people.....we are in a WORLD of hurt...and its not changing anytime soon...no matter who the coach is...

  3. I was speaking yesterday with 2 friends that are former college coaches and they both believe that UND now has a better staff than NDSU. They also believe UND football will become the more dominant program over the next 4-5 years. I even tried to play devils advocate in the discussion, but was stopped abruptly with reasons for the shift in power.

Really?? I don't post often but this is an idiotic statemnt.

Their HC is one of the best DC in the FCS. Bohl wanted him BAD!! Was very pissed he didn't go to WYO. Their new OC knows the FCS very well and is a great recruiter. Randy is a very good coach(look at SIU QB's when he has been there) Did a great job at St. Cloud State. Their new DC is held in high regards with the new HC which should tell you something. The remaining coach's from what I've been told are also very good.

    And we are better why????

How about when our coach's have the success that theirs have had we can make a claim. I would bet against it though...

Honestly....if I am a current HS senior and am recruited by both schools the choice is no brainer....seriously!!!! For us not to get that floors me.

Its going to take us quite awhile to even get close to their level....And a lot of us act like this is going to happen overnight.

Su has raised the bar to a level that IMHO is unattainable at UND...

People on here think they are going to be bad next year..what planet do you people live on??? They have been getting the best recruits for the past three years in the area....plus they have a ton of very good players coming back.... Plus a great coaching staff....I think they will be OK..lol

we have a long, long way to go...am I excited for the new staff? Absolutely!!!! but lets keep things in perspective..

  4. BREITBACH LOOKING FOR A HEAD JOB

Millersville, Pa. - Millersville University is inviting faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community to attend open forums with six candidates for the head football coach position.

Each candidate will meet with the public for one hour in the Student Memorial Center during his on-campus interview. The search committee narrowed the search to six candidates after reviewing more than 60 applications.

The candidates are (in alphabetical order): Greg Breitbach, offensive coordinator, University of North Dakota; James Clements, head coach, Delaware Valley College; Robert Forgrave, defensive coordinator, East Stroudsburg University; Adam Gonzaga, defensive coordinator, Ohio Northern University, James Morgan, running backs coach/recruiting coordinator, Shippensburg University; and David Taynor, head coach, Urbana University. Open forum dates, times and locations as well as more information on each candidate is listed below.

At the conclusion of the on-campus interviews, the search committee will recommend to Dr. Aminta Breaux, Vice President of Student Affairs, an unranked list of three finalists for hiring consideration.

    ...................

Interestingly... the same site said former UM coach Tim Brewster was signed as TE end coach at Florida State for $290,000.

Congrats to coach. Just heard about this...Looking at the list of Canidates you wonder why his name was on this list?

Usually OC move up to HC positions at the same level....to drop down seems awful strange to me. Especially looking at the list of canidates.

Anyone else think this is strange??

  5. Lets not forget they immediately moved to 60 scholarships in 2004, then on to 63 within a year after that. Now I have heard from Bison fans that these extra 27 scholarships would not show up on the field for "years". Not true. NDSU immediately went out and got EIGHT junior college players for the 2004 season to fill gaps. These are 8 players that D2 teams cannot afford - they can maybe afford to get one or two.

On top of that, would NDSU fans have been happy if UND cut off the series in 2005 or 2006 when those 63 scholarships were now on the field in one way or the other vs. UND's 36 total schollies? Probably not.

After all that its probably just best to end it in 2003.

You are correct. That said we did beat UNI with less scholarships and SU beat Montana when they were still Div II. Would we have been at a disadvantage? Sure, but mostly with depth as the skill would have been very similar. I personally wish we would have kept playing the game. It was a lot of hurt feelings by our coaches and adm. In the end we were wrong and they were right...Trust me I hate to say that.....but it's the truth..

  6. I'm not willing to hold my nose that high in the air. I'm a hockey fan too, but not one of 'those' ones. Why don't some of you get on the high expectations band wagon but also have yourself ground in reality? My expectations are through the roof with this program and as far as I'm concerned it hasn't even begun to scratch its potential. Part of that is due to investment, or lack thereof, and part of that is due to the transition. In 20 years we'll hardly be able to recognize the football program in terms of level of play and popularity. The hockey program can't get all that much bigger, football has almost unlimited growth potential.

Back to my point, high expectations are necessary to success.

Exactly!!! I don't mind getting beat...but I'm tired of getting our asses kicked!! This isnt' the first time in the Mussman lead teams we have been embarrassed. What happened to our physical Defense!!! A good running game and a good defense and your in EVERY game.

This vertical passing game is NOT UND football!! Sure we have had some success against mediocore to crappy teams. When are we actually going to beat a good football team. That's what I'm waiting for.. My fear is this was just the begining of the ass kickings this year. And if I'm right where does that leave this football program....

  7. Nothing's changed on this board. We accept mediocrity. Why should we? Why aren't we holding the coach and the administration to higher standards. The game last night was an embarrassment. EWU is a decent team. But not a team that should mop the red carpet with our asses.

I was listening to the radio and jack says we have so many good backs we had to leave Sparks in Grand Forks. Good backs?? What god damn team is he watching? Good against !@#!$ competition. Christ Icould have run for 200 yards against some of these horseshit teams. Our WR are good. But not as good as we think. I was reading how some of you think Harden is the best in FCS. He's good but let's put the Kelly green cool aid down. He drops bass and takes plays off. Not would I would call the best. The online is avg at best.

Don't even get me started on the defense. Seriously. That doesn't even deserve my rant. Yet we have people on this board saying well we shouldn't expect much out of this team. My question is why the hell not!!!

I wil tell you this. If SU lost a game like this the town of Fargo would shut down. Maybe we should start giving a !@#$ about the football team. If we don't expect excellence who will?

  8. This should be used as a HUGE recruiting tool, and I'm sure it already is......it better be.

Would you rather bus to Iowa, South Dakota, Illinois, and probably fly to Indiana, Missouri etc?....

    OR...

Fly everywhere out west and see the countryside and warm weather in California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Arizona and Montana?

Honest question, Mr. High School Football Recruit...

You are forgetting one thing. The family of the recruit. Playing teams in the Midwest allows families to drive to the games. Flying to every away game is very expensive. I would call this a disadvantage.

  9. So now UND will be joining a new hockey conference within weeks. The new hockey conference doesn't give a sh*t about the Sioux name.

The political naivete of this board is beyond belief. The political establishment in North Dakota (Republican and Democrat) want to get rid of the name. The populist and tea-party people - including Carlsen - despise the backroom dealings that forced the political establishment to kill the Sioux name.

Star, keep up the good fight. Thank god for people like you on this board that can see the big picture and what is actually going on.

Kelley is a joke and should be removed immediately for the way he has handled this whole situation.

  10. No that is not what it means, so you only care about football and basketball? No it means, sometimes you have to stand up and fight for what is right. If the NCAA really gave a crap about Native American names then big schools like Florida State and Utah would be transitioning to a new name too, bu this is a power play by the NCAA to push a small school around in a small state just because they think they can. I cheer for all UND sports and I hope they do well. But someone has to stand up and say enough is enough.

    Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great post!!!!!!!!!

  11. I like Hak, a lot. I think he's a great coach, but UND has an elite college hockey program and he can be replaced. If he can't get in line with what's in the best interest of the entire school, he needs to go.

Man, there are a lot of spineless jellyfish on this board all of a sudden.

Thank god for Coach's/leaders like Hak!!

Amazing how everyone was so happy about the legislation and because of a threat by the BSC we turn tail and run

I for one want to always be the Fighting Sioux!!!

  12. I think 6-5 can be called a "successful" season next year. Anything less will be disappointing.

6-5 successful? Why do we have such low standards around here. 6-5 with four cupcakes would be a joke.

that means we went 2-5 against the rest of the schedule. If that's successful then I guess I'm clueless.

  13. the main question for me is can we score more than 50 points in a game.

    How about 70? 80?

Watching this offense under Jones is like watching paint dry.

It's as boring as hell. I am the only one that is sick and tired of this crap?

How long to we give this clown?

  14. UnD-59

    Bison-72

will anyone back me that we need to get rid of Jones!!! I am so tired of this boring offense!!!

The ONLY reason we keep this somewhat close is we will take every second off the shot clock and limit their possessions.

If any of you have not seen the great Jones Offense get ready sat. night.

  15. I'm with you on all accounts, but at least we did get the "we went toe to toe with them" like after the Idaho game.

We are going into one of the premire FCS FB conferences in the nation with a coach that gives the moral victory quotes whenever he isn't throwing players or officials under the bus. :(

Totally agree.....sorry but we need a change in football and mens' B-ball.

I thought Faison was the man for the job, but if he can't see this then I have to question him as well.

  16. Hardin>Bamba

Hardin>Dressler Sr. if he keeps this up.

    [/quote

Not even close!!! Hardin has done it against two lousy teams...Amazing how some people are blowing this guy way out of proportion.....

Lets give him some time before we crown him the next coming...

  17. You need to think with your head more and less with your heart. I am a died in the wool Sioux fan for almost 60 years and I am not assuming anything nor comparing anything, just saying the Bison have done some good things since going DI. the Sioux have too, but to a lesser extent. Whether NDSU has beaten a good team in two years is not the issue. The issue is can UND grow enough as a program to gain similar respect around the region. Time will tell about this and just how good KU and NDSU are this year.

Ole, I agree with what your saying. Most on here don't want to admit that so far we have had a very poor transition in all sports. Especially a guy with 'HOMER" as his name. Recruiting in B.Ball and football is almost impossible compared to who we are going against.

What can we sell to the players that NDSU and SDSU or UNI doesn't have in spades. Absolutely nothing!! That's just reality. So we are left with leftovers and recruiting in places far from home.

We thought it's bad now. Try recruiting when everyone knows Poly and Davis are gone and we have no one else to play.

Homer, I commend your optimism however misguided it might be.

  18. Automatic bid and a conference is huge. All I am saying is Jones deserves more time and once in a league where he can recruit on a semi level playing field with other mid major schools, then decide. I am sure he is getting the best players he can for the situation. Are these all the exact players he was going for, probably not. Im sure he was recruiting much better players but they opted to go elsewhere because of the transition, bid and conference. Has every recruit been a success, NO. You have to start somewhere and build with the successes and failures. The failures are with every college and every pro team. High expectations are seldon met from players. UND will have several solid players to build on these next several years. It only takes a couple of solid recruiting years to be on top and in some cases (kentucky) one year. Couple descent players from this years red shirt that played and hopefully one from the two that red shirted this year can make a difference. I really dont think any other coach in this situation could have done any better. Thats why I say give Jones more time and lets not start all over again for now.

Several solid players? You must be watching a different team than I did the past few years. Why people want to continue to give this guy the benefit of the doubt I will never understand ;)

  19. You've got to give a coach more than a couple of years, especially when you are making the jump from d2 to d1. When you look at this year the best player (bledshoe) was not at full strength until half way thru the season. With him full strength i say they when several of those games they lost. Injuries plaqued this team all year and they played 5 red shirt freshmen 20+ minutes per game. The young players hopefully learned alot. Prior to the last 5 games they looked to me like they had improved alot from the beginning of the year. They have talent they just need to learn to protect the ball and shoot better. Their shooting was inconsistant but when they did shoot well and didnt turn it over they looked really good. The coaches cant shoot or pass the ball for the players. I really think they will be fine next year and especially in 2 years. I believe its also alittle bit of a learning curve for the coaches.

Your kidding right? More time, what more do we need to see in this clown? Sorry but when you make comments about the players can't shoot or pass Jones is the guy who is recruiting these kids with no talent.

Why do we continue to say give this guy more time. In my opinon we've seen enough and to keep making excuses for this guy really pisses me off.

Until he is gone my four season tickets will not be renewed..This will be my last post on this guy because I have absolutely nothing positive to say about him.

  20. I'm over Chapman, Sic.

    I actually like Hanson.

The SBoHE has nothing to do with this situation and UND fans calling for their heads is just an attempt to ride the coattails of the Chapman mess into an excuse to get back at them for the nickname. Nothing more, nothing less.

You've said some stupid things on this board. But this has to top the list. SBoHE has EVERYTHING to do with this. It's called oversight. They have failed the people of North Dakota bigtime.

This has nothing to do with the nickname. Only you could imagine that in your small brain.

  21. May be easy to schedule but not necessarily in the best interest of either school to play each other twice in the same season right now, considering the quality (or lack-there-of) of basketball that both teams are playing right now. The RPI is a big thing to consider at this level of basketball. Sure, North Dakota has no shot at post-season play, and NDSU's only shot is to win the Summit tourney but there is more to it than that in the big picture. Right now, North Dakota playing NDSU doesn't do much to help our RPI. We need to move up in the RPI rankings, because the big schools from Big 10/Big 12/Pac 10 etc. won't easily schedule a school like us because of our low RPI, which is a factor when selecting at-large teams to the NCAA tourney. When Texas A&M and Iowa St. throttled us this year, it actually lowered their RPI just because they played us, basically because we have poor team that struggles against other poor teams. If the big schools from the power conferences won't schedule us, that hurts our pocketbook in a big way. Same goes for NDSU..........they need to build their RPI up in order to get guarantee games against schools from power conferences. Playing North Dakota doesn't help them do that. They'll make a nice profit from the 7,000-8,000 that come to the Dome for this game, but it is probably not worth the RPI hit the both of us would take for playing each other twice in the same season when we are in different conferences. I would hope though, that this game is part of a longer term agreement that calls for NDSU to play in GF the following season, and then UND back in Fargo the year after that, and so on.......

Great post! Really looking forward to this one because I miss the rivalary and I won't have to travel far!! Anyone know if this is finalized or not??

  22. You'll also see that those sports have active threads. All of our sports matter & Bison fans take pride in having a successful athletic dept in all sports, but if you're happy with the majority of your sports being door mats then you should be very ecstatic... :glare:

Dan...we would own you in every sport that matters except mens basketball...And it's not like your exactly burning up the hardwood this season are you.

Who knows..maybe we would beat you in a home and home..But would own you in Womens BB and Football.

    Not even debatable
