Your example is great for a family in Wisconsin.  Use those same examples for a family in Dickinson, Bismarck or Minot.  Location is a tough argument.

In my view facilities, winning and relationships are more important for recruiting.

Also need to factor the location of alumni after they leave GF.

But we get way more kids from Minnesota/Wisconsin/SD/NEB  then out west.  Not even comparable.  Really doesn't matter where alumni live because they usually don't attend away games.   That said I would guess a high percentage of alum live in Minneapolis area compared to out west.

I guess we will agree to disagree, I think other than the Montana schools the Big Sky doesn't offer us much.   Nobody cares about Port ST, Idaho ST, Sac St N Arizona ect....

  2. why would NDSU go to the students for this?  All they would have to do is increase their ticket prices with the demand they have.   It's wrong to go after the students IMO at any school.   They are getting killed with the cost of College as it is.

Our top three sports are hockey football and basketball. We're in a solid hockey only conference so that's irrelevant in the conference discussion. MVFC > Big Sky, by a lot. It also fits our recruiting footprint better and our philosophy better. It's also easier to get people to come and see teams they used to come and see than teams like Sac St Idaho St EWU Weber St and so on, nobody around here cares about or knows about them. Even EWU. Outside of MSU and Montana there is no interest at all. The Summit > BigSky in basketball. The Big Sky is terrible for basketball and also doesn't fit our recruiting. Throw in the money saved on travel and how easy it would be to market familiar opponents and it seems like an obvious choice if there's an opportunity.

Nailed it...Imagine a parent in Wisc, or the twin Cities.   Now figure their costs to away games VS driving to UNI, ILL St. ECT...No comparison    Or kids in Illinois... This area of the country the MV/Summit is just a better fit by far...Not sure how anyone can argue different..

  4. I think Dale is  a  class act.  I don't know  lot about football but as a man, yes he is a positive leader!

Would take Dale back in a second to coach our team..

  5. I would be ecstatic if UND was able to win the FCS championship in football......what I wouldn't do is try and equate it to an FBS football title or a D1 hockey title. At the end of the day, UND and NDSU are playing for 129th place in football and I am perfectly fine with that. Living in Fargo it seems that many of the fans in town fail to understand the distinction.

This is the type of idiotic statements by Sioux Fans that are not necessary.   I would take a football championship ANY DAY over a hockey championship..sorry..

  6. That is Bullcrap.  There are always guys who aren't starting or playing who complain but as a team these guys like the direction the team is headed and respect what Bubba and staff are doing.  There are also usually an assistant coach or 2 that some of the kids don't like but haven't heard this is an issue.

    100% correct!!!

This happens with EVERY team.   No way you can ever satisfy 90-100 kids when only 22 start....

  7. So going into the last week of recruiting, with a class that NDSU won a lot of battles on and needs to be protecting their verbals, Hedberg is wasting not only his time but 2 high schools time by going out on "courtesy" calls, basically just leading the kids on?  First the company line was that he hadn't been to Davies now it is that he has been there to see the twins but isn't recruiting them?   Wow, that is some Grade A spin.

You think this dumb a@@ knows what he is talking about?  He has been talking out of his a@@ for months on this board.

Let me try to clear some things up from what I have heard from my son who happens to go to Davies and also played football on the Varsity this year.

First he told me the twins were going to Concordia to play football.  Then a few weeks later it was Northern.  Then at the end of the season he said they told people they both had full rides to SDSU.   Then when the one twin got kicked off the hockey team they said SDSU pulled their scholarships.

Now is any of this true?  I doubt it.  I questioned the SDSU thing as I had never seen/heard of them recruiting these kids.    I have seen these kids play in person about 20 plus times.   Are they good football players?  No doubt!!   Are they Div 1 football players?  Not sure about that..plus they have some issues.     Not going in to those issues but if you have kids at Davies you know what they are.

I do think the QB has a chance(small) to make it.  The WR would have to get a lot faster to make it.    Add on the fact that neither of them have given much effort in the weight room.  Hopefully that will change in College.

  8. This injuries are an unfortunate side effect of limited depth; however, they are also related to strength and conditioning.

Is the UND Football strength and conditioning program where it needs to be?

Sorry, don't agree with that.  Injuries happen...Call it bad luck, but they are beyond the control of the coach's in my opinon...

  9. So now your going into the metrics of "possessions"?  Let's say SUU comes out to start the 2nd half and goes 3 and out.  Then, UND goes on a 8 minute drive.  Does that technically eat up one of SUU's "possessions" (based on avg. possession time)?  Are they back to even again?

    Stop defending this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

apparently you and Bubba are the only two in the USA that would do something so stupid...

  10. My neighbor said SU is just about out of scholly money so we should start hearing from some kids real soon. Cant believe we have four commits and they are full but our AD put us in this situation..

  11. Personally I do not see it as a "make or break your season type of game." It's the first game for the coaching staff and several young players. I don't expect a win. I expect to see them compete in that game. Not sure if we have a " make or break game in our schedule," but if I had to choose one, it would be the Montana game at home. We will have played a few games by that point and UM is a team we've split with over the past couple seasons. If we compete against them, and possibly even beat them, then I will feel confident we are headed in the right direction.

Totally agree. Have to give Bubba at least 2-3 years to get this thing turned around. We have a lot of re-stocking to do and that takes time. The AD put this coaching staff at a major disadvantage taking so long to get him hired...

All I want is for the team to be competitive...tired of the 30-40 point beat downs..

  12. I spoke with a friend of mine (D-II) that coached against Rudolph many times. He told me that Rudolph is a great selection for UND.

"Elated"? "Horrible coach"? To me that sounds like a parent/s that didn't agree with how much playing time their kid was getting. I seriously doubt Bubba would pick a "horrible coach" to be his OC.

Not parents at all!! Talking about people in the know in Minot(Boosters) These people have been tied into Beaver athletics for over 30 years...Again, don't kill the messenger!! Just telling you their thoughts!! These are people that go to every game!!

I certainly have no idea how this will turn out! No where did I say he was a bad coach!! Just what I've been told.

  13. Yanosko was hurt(acl) the first half of first game and was done for the year. Sophomore Bolinske finished out the year and was named 1st team allstate

True, was talking about his Junior year! I have heard he is definitly Div I talent my friends have said LB? Pretty impressive for the Soph to be 1st team all-state. There is another kid in Minot my friends have talked about. Don't remember his name?

  14. Quick question to anyone in the know.

Are we recruting Austin Cieslak out of Hazen, ND? In watching the championship game I thought he looked the part. Big guy that moves very well.

  15. The problem with fgosioux is that he implies that there is no solution and no way to fix our problems. I have pointed out the mediocrity in our programs, but I also think we have more than enough tools to turn it around.

Ok, my bad. Not saying there isn't ways to turn this around at all!! But I am tired of people dreaming that this will be fixed in a year or two. This is going to take some time. Our new coach's were put in a very bad situation by waiting way too long to hire them. That's on our AD. I like Bubba and think he has a shot to be successful. Personally I would have taken a shot at the EX-Montana coach. He has had success in the Big Sky and has run a very successful program. Did he have baggage? Certainly but so did Bohl and look how that worked for SU. Am I sold on most of the new coaching staff coming from ND? Not really but time will tell. I know it sure cant' get worse!!!

It's been a while since I posted on this site. Mostly because last time around I pointed out some things about Coach Muss and recruits and was blasted. I call a spade a spade. I am definitely not a kool-aid drinker like a lot on this site.

At the time I said Jake Miller wasn't a Div I running back. I got BLASTED!! I'm going to throw out one more. Again not trying to be negative just things I've been told.

I have friends in Minot that are very tied into athletics as Minot State. They are elated Rudolph is gone. Said he is a horrible coach. Doesn't mean he can't be a good OC. I personally think we could have done a lot better at that position on the new staff. His track record is St. Cloud State and he has zero Div I expierence. We will see...I hope I'm wrong but by far my biggest concern on this staff. On a side note he was one hell of a QB at Stanley. Watched him in a playoff game in Hazen come back from a major half time deficit to beat the Bison :)

  16. Not just me that thinks that. Massey has them rated 210 overall in college football and UND rated @ 313.

    http://www.masseyrat...te.php?s=cf2013

Other stats: (throwing in NDSU just for the hell of it)

    Pwr: UND 313 Ferris 211 NDSU 22

    Off: UND 308 Ferris 156 NDSU 38

Def: UND 310 Ferris 304 NDSU 5 (yes according to Massey 5th best Defense in all of college football)

    HFA: UND 1.74 Ferris 5.8 NDSU 2.24

    SoS: UND 204 Ferris 251 NDSU 91

That's idiotic!! Seriously, a Div II team...Do you really think NDSU was at their best that day against a crappy Div II team...Your taking stats from THAT game...Wow, you SU guys are something else.......You must be really bored to sink to this level...
