  1. UMBC was a 21 point underdog who won by 20 over the #1 overall seed. NDSU is a 27.5 point underdog....I think if NDSU can continue their unconscious shooting from 3 that they hang around for about 25 minutes.
  2. They were favored by 5. They did not cover but the game hit the over pretty easily.
  3. It is about the match up not necessarily the talent. It was a good matchup athletic wise and style wise for NDSU and most were not shocked when they won. Only need to look back earlier in the season when NDSU was completely overmatched and unable to guard a certain team in Grand Forks that year.
  4. Top of the Forums list. Upon further evaluation.....yep, still hot garbage.
  5. I think what has really hurt Minnesota Gopher hockey is that quite a bit of their fan base were hockey fans first and Gopher fans 2nd or 3rd(Pro and High School). When the NHL came back to Minnesota that took a chunk of fans who would rather watch the NHL than college hockey. I think the main thing lost in the move to the Big 10 besides the rivalries is the High School first, Gophers 2nd hockey fan that enjoyed following the careers of the many high school kids who moved onto college and were and are all over the rosters of Bemidji St., SCSU, Mankato St., UMD, and UND. These fans enjoyed watching old high school rivals and teammates that they watched grow up play against each other...at least that is what several of the Gopher fans(who attended the NCHC tournament instead of the B10 tournament across the river) I talked to at the Target Center during the first few years of the NCHC tournament.
  6. because he is Darrel and Darrel gonna Darrel
  7. Spangler was a bruiser. Buddy Hield and Cousins were shooters. By unathletic I was talking about OU and I mean they didn't have guys who were a threat to finish at the rim. Over half of Hields attempts in his college career were from behind the 3 point line and Cousins took around 40% from behind the arc as well. Teams that rely on the jump shot often die by the jump shot. I didn't call it a fluke that NDSU won....I gave them about a 40-45% chance at winning the game as did most of the "tv experts". Like I said, the talking heads were calling them vulnerable before they even knew who they would play. They went 13-42 inside the arc that game.
  8. OU was an unathletic team that relied on the jump shot. Most prognosticators had them circled as an upset candidate before the brackets came out. NDSU gets the credit for beating them though...especially after not closing them out in regulation as they probably should have. Most of the time the underdog who lets the favorite come back late in a game ends up folding and NDSU regrouped and took them out. Very impressive win.
  9. Beat my Terrapins today and I am not even that upset about it.
  10. .here is how I would like to see it shake out.Atlantic HockeyRIT at Sacred HeartArmy at AICNiagara at Air ForceRobert Morris at BentleyDoesn't really matter who wins this tournament as whoever wins it will not have any effect on any other teams getting in or getting left out(1 bid league no matter how it shakes out), so might as well root for Air Force just for the Frank Serratore Press Conferences.ECACUnion at CornellBrown at QuinnipiacDartmouth at HarvardYale at ClarksonQuinnipiac is a lock for the NCAA tournament so it would be alright with me if they win their conference tourney. I would like to see Cornell knock Union from contention this weekend plus a good friend of mine has a kid who is a D-man for Cornell. Would love to see Dartmouth upset Harvard and Yale upset Clarkson this weekend.Hockey EastMaine at NortheasternBC at ProvidenceUNH at MassachusettsBU at Mass-LowellMassachusetts, Northeastern, and Providence are all in solid position to make the NCAA tourney so I wouldn't mind them all moving on this weekend to avoid any drama. Don't care who wins between BU and Lowell as long as they lose next weekend.BIG 10Minnesota at Notre DamePenn State at Ohio StateGo Buckeyes. Anyone else wins this and that could potentially take an at large bid away. As dirty as it makes me feel I am pulling for Minnesota to beat Notre Dame this weekend to all but remove them from the at large picture as long as the Gophs lose next weekend. Keep this at a 1 bid conference.WCHABGU at NMULSSU at Minnesota State-MankatoPulling for Mankato and NMU this weekend and Mankato next weekend to keep this at a 1 bid league.NCHCMiami at SCSUCC at WMUUNO at UMDUND at DUSCSU and UMD are in so might as well have them move on this weekend. Denver is still likely to make it even if UND beats them this weekend so hopefully that happens. WMU is the wildcard here as they would be in a tough spot if they lose. Since they could still make it with a loss and likely still be ahead of UND I am hoping they win so that if UND does make it to St. Paul next weekend they would have the benefit of playing high ranked teams so that going 1-1 in St. Paul could still possibly get them in as an at large. If everything goes as I would like it this weekend, the pairwise would look like this going into next weekend.1 St Cloud St2 Massachusetts3 MSU-Mankato4 (5) Quinnipiac5 (4) Minnesota-Duluth6 Ohio State7 (8) Northeastern8 (9) Providence9 (12) Cornell10 (7) Denver11 (10) Arizona State12 (13) Western Michigan13 (18) North Dakota14 (11) Clarkson15 Notre Dame
  11. Let's hold out for Miles. Could be available as early as tomorrow.
  12. I am guessing whoever the new coach is would have the sense to require an anonymous unanimous team vote on letting her back on the team.
  13. I didn't take offense to your post as it has been a rough year ....but as soon as SDSU lost to WIU my first thought was holy crap, if UND can somehow get by UNO tonight we could actually make the tourney!
  14. Have to give NDSU credit. They beat the teams that were in front of them. Not great talent but good depth and they move and share the ball pretty well....and they seem to have gone unconscious from 3 in Sioux Falls. They normally hit around 9 of 26 on average. They went 34-70 in Sioux Falls which includes going 4-12 in 2nd half yesterday(30-58 before that). To put it in statistical perspective you could just as easily expect them to miss their next 26 3 point attempts as you could expect them to go 34-70....or if you went on normal makes over a 3 game period to balance it out you could expect them to go 15 for their next 70.
  15. You might be able to make a case that Adams is more effective when he is in a top 6 role. As far as cycling and puck possession I just go back to the Saturday night game against UMD and the following Friday at Colorado College and remember twice in the UMD game and at least once in the CC game where Adams and Tychonick were controlling the puck just off the wall and exchanged possession 2 or 3 times and had UMD/CC running around their end and then Adams came off the wall, drew a couple guys and made a pass to #5 and the possession ended shortly after.
  16. Gophs head to Notre Dame and Penn State heads to Columbus
  17. This thread is not at all what I was led to believe by the thread title.
  18. My favorite Lou Nanne quote came a few years back when he was on Kfan leading up to the WCHA tournament and all the pearl clutching fans of Donny's Ice Angels were calling in whining about how rough and cheap the Sioux were and he said "I don't see that from them at all. You have to realize that in hockey physicality is a skill and it is one that UND excels at and it is a skill the Gophers don't seem to have much of." He went on to elaborate about making and finishing hits but staying in the play and that with the Gopher players always talking about how they were going to be tougher and harder to play against showed that UND was winning the mind game against them as well as UND didn't have to talk about being tough and hard to play against, they just naturally were.
  19. Yes. Top 5 are seeded. 4 plays 5 and the other 3 games are a random draw from the unseeded teams.
  20. Crap. The women's game was on DirecTV today and the men's game was scheduled to follow on the same channel and now it is gone
  21. Pretty sure we have people on the payroll that already do that. How effective they are is up for debate.
  22. This is off the rails 2013–14 Mike Eaves 24–11–2 13–6–1 2nd NCAA First Round 2014–15 Mike Eaves 4–26–5 2–15–3 6th 2015–16 Mike Eaves 8–19–8 3–13–4 6th
  23. I see he played 2 minutes in first half so I am guessing he wasn't feeling well or got injured...didn't think I saw him on the bench?
