You must have not heard of her performance in the Nike Tournament in Portland. She was in Sports Illustrated because of it. Lamar's point guard this past year was 5'2" and went to the WNBA combine. You must have no clue about women's basketball if you think a 5'4" point guard can't make a difference at the Division I level. Also Lamar qualified for the NCAA tournament and WNIT (twice) the past three years. Yeah, Lamar is really reaching.

Just an FYI, South Dakota State has succeeded at the Division I level with players from South Dakota State. Jenn Warkenthein, the 2009 Summit League Player or the Year and AP H.M. All-American, didn't have any other Division I offers and came from a very small town in South Dakota with no AAU/summer experience (that I know of). That throws out the logic that a player has to come from metro-Minny and Wisconsin to be D1 in ND. A college coach can always refine a home grown player who already has the groundwork needed to compete at a high level.

Two players to look at: Shauna Long of Standing Rock and Sasha Golus of Belcourt. Shauna has over 2,000 points going into her senior season and was a two time first team all-stater at the Class B level. She also led her team to the state tournament the past two seasons, including the semi-finals this year. Sasha led Class A in scoring as a sophomore and was second as a junior. At 5'11", she has had to play out of position for a smaller Belcourt team, but plays like a guard. An excellent rebounder and scorer, she can slash from any position and has the potential to play at this level. She hasn't played at the state tournament yet but Belcourt is expected to be a top team this coming season. I've already heard from reliable sources that UND was already advising Long to get registered with the NCAA Clearing House before her junior year. I hope either or both of these two become UND players!

Wow, if that isn't the most racist/prejudiced thing I ever read. Jealous because you had to pay for school with loans because YOU didn't get GOOD enough grades to get academic scholarships. I'm Native American and Lakota, and yet where's all this free schooling your talking about? Sign me up for it.

Thank you Gene Roebuck and staff for recruiting our Native American athletes. You go way back to Colleen Chaske to the recent Anna Leigh Brady. I am a Lakota Sioux from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. If I was on either the Spirit Lake or Standing Rock reservation, I would vote for the school to keep it's name. I know for a fact that Gene includes the top players from the reservations in his recruiting database. He does what a lot of college coaches are scared to do: he treats them like every other player. If they can play, they can play. It's sad that some of our NAIA and NCAA D2 colleges within 2 hours from home don't even give a passing glance to our players yet the schools in North Dakota, including UND, actively recruit our players. Even if it doesn't work out, at least they gave them a fair look. So, I just want to say thank you. I wish your program nothing but the best. I hope UND can keep it's name. Yes, history has defined our culture to be untrusting and at times filled with vengeance, but we have to move forward in order to progress.
