  1. I think it's more like:

In heaven there is no beer (no beer!)

That's why we drink it here (right here!)

And when we're all gone from here,

Our friends will be drinking all the beer.

Some folks just sing "and when we're gone from here".

    Sioux18

I always sing three verses, like such...

    VERSE 1

In heaven there is no beer (no beer)

That's why we drink it here (right here)

And where We're gone from here

Our friends will be drinking all the beer

    VERSE 2

In heaven there are no refs (no refs)

But here, they're blind and deaf

And when we all have left

Our friends will be bitchin at the refs

    VERSE 3

In heaven there is no snow (no snow)

But here, it's ten below (brrr)

And when we all must go

Our friends will be shoveling the snow

then usually back to Verse 1.

Also, Seven Nation Army is played at the Ralph...

  2. You know what would really help? Maine has to forfeit their 2 games for using ineligible players. That would flip many comparisons and give use a bonus...

We wouldn't get a bonus for winning those games because they were played at home. The bonus is for quality ROAD wins. But yeah, that would definitely help us out in the TUC and RPI.

  3. I dont think South losing to Moorhead 5-3 is JV hockey.

Are you saying South is relatively close in play to Moorhead? While I agree with you, wouldn't Williston losing to Red River 4-2, or Minot losing to Grafton 5-2 be similar situations to South losing to Moorhead, in that they are relatively close in play to those top Eastern schools?

Anyway, I'm really rooting for Devils' Lake and Grafton. Devils' Lake probably had the best day in the first round, but will probably face a steaming Red River squad, and we all know the difficulties that Grafton has had with Fargo South. Either way, hopefully the games are competitive.

  4. For UND to have a good shot at getting a #1 seed they would basically need the following:

    Sweep Denver

    Sweep St. Cloud

    Sweep 1st Round Series

Win Semi-final game and Championship game, one of which is against St. Cloud

If this happened, they would most likely tip the following comparisons:

Denver (We'd likely sweep all points in the comparison)

Michigan (We'd flip the TUC point, giving us a 2-1 advantage)

Boston College (We'd flip TUC point, giving us a 2-1 advantage)

Maine (We'd flip RPI point, giving us a 2-2 tie w/RPI tiebreaker)

Boston University(We'd flip RPI and TUC, giving us a 2-1 advantage)

Clarkson (We'd flip RPI and TUC, giving us a 2-1 advantage)

St. Cloud (They'd have us in RPI, TUC and COP, but we'd have 4 H2H wins, thus a 4-3 advantage)

That would give the Sioux 21 PWR Comparisons, and be 4th in the standings, thus getting the last #1 seed.

  5. I think when it comes to RPI it counts as a loss but with TUC and COP it counts as 1/2 a win.

For TUC and COP think of it like points...for example:

Team A has a record of 10-5-0 and Team B has a record of 8-3-4.

Team A would have 10 wins for 20 points out of 30 possible, so that would be .6667 win%

Team B would have 8 wins for 16 points and 4 ties for 4 points for 20 points total out of 30 possible, and again a .6667 win %

So, two ties would equal 1 win and 1 loss because it would be gaining two points out of a possible four.

  6. Another typical Minot year. I think I'd call it the "Samson Curse" rather than the "Philion Curse" because Samson won the state tournament with players that Olson was head coach for. Minot hockey has sunk to a very sad level.

I'd call it the curse of the "M". They always seem to choke come playoff time...

  7. South didn't play in state in 1992. We lost to Botineau in one of the play-in games. I know I was skiing in Big Sky instead of playing at state. :glare: South did make it back to state in 1993 and beat Minot in the first round. Of course during my freshman year in college they won it all for the first time in 1994, in a great game against VERY good Central team led by both Panzers. ;)

You're right. The semi-finalists that year were Minot, Bismarck, Jamestown (all "West" teams that year) and Fargo North was the lone EDC school in the semis.

  8. I think those scores might have been worse than that. I don't care what anyone says, that was the best Championship game that I've seen in North Dakota. Yeah, the goaltending was weak, but what an unbelievable back and forth game. I was at that game as a youngster, and after that every youth hockey player in Minot wanted to be like Tom Philion.

I like the whole Philion curse idea though. When they won state back in 92 Grafton was the first team that they beat by like a 5-1 score or something like that. I can't remember who they beat in the semifinals to get to the title game though.

I want to say that Minot beat Grafton in the First Round in '92, then beat South in the Semifinals. Also, I want to say the Championship Game finished at 8-7.

  9. Actually the Islanders are 6-3-1-0 in their last ten. I'm not saying they'll win against Tampa, but they've played well in their last ten. Dipietro has played very well lately, and as JS Giguere proved last year, an average team can win. So, GO ISLES!!

Note: Tampa Bay over Isles in Five
