  1. Again Ralph was cleared by the FBI and was ruled not to have any fascist leanings so I am going to trust them or any of the people smearing a persons name excessively. I don't care if Pro-name change people, Left Wing Professors, Little Johnny Hoff or you wants to keep saying that Ralph is a Nazi, it just isn't the case and it doesn't make it true...

OK now we bring out the big guns. You, me and the rest know that if Ralphy doesn't donate millions of $$ and build a hockey shrine for himself on the UND campus, the school would've changed the name a long time ago. We all now of the threats he made and how much do you want to bet there are provisions in his will if the name was changed. Come on, I was born at night but not last night. I've said it before, money makes the world go round. Ralphy's loaded and the Sioux tribes aren't, bottom line. You can fire away at me all you want but you all know its true!

  2. Stretch and reach? :D It this not the same logic you have been using since you started posting here?

    Paraphrasing your experiences at/with UND:

I went to UND. White kid(s) discriminated against me at UND. UND is a racist institution. Nickname must go. Stick it to the white man.

By the way, didn't mean to tell you how to teach your class from my last post in this thread. But I did appreciate the succint and direct private message as to your feeings regarding my advice. :D

Thats about it in a nutshell. Accepting a Buttload of cash from a Nazi lover doesn't help UND's image. Draggin it's feet when a jewish student is discriminated against doesn't help, either.

  3. Yes, please, can we be more like some of our "enlightened" fellow institutions of higher learning, like Yale? They would allow this as a Senior art project, but I'm sure they would never be the "Fighting Sioux" or "Indians". Thank goodness we now have a moral compass to follow. They are obviously fully into the 21st Century.

Be careful what you wish for your alma mater to become!

So whatever happens at one Ivy League school can be applied to all Ivy League schools? Wow, the words stretch and reach apply here. keep'em comin, though.

  4. Please define significant. Is it a majority? Is it 25%? Is it 2%? If the number is less than 50%, please explain why that "will be enough." If it is less than 50%, why do you feel that a minority gets to decide against the majority? When you're teaching one of your classes, and a situation arises were you let your class take a vote on something, and 3 kids out of 25 vote no, do you decide to overlook the 22 yes votes?

Just because universities such as Dartmouth and Stanford decide to change their names, does not mean they have taken the high road. I think fighting to do what is right, and not what is easiest is taking the high road.

What do you mean by "come get some!" :glare:

Something I'd like to pass on to you. This is something that my parents taught me at an early age, that has made my life much easier and less stressful since I have come to accept this fact. LIFE IS NOT FAIR! Bitching and whining will not make life fair, and will just make you bitter.

Come get some refers to the fact that I get attacked for anything I post. And you are exactly right about the Life isn't fair quote, SO QUIT BITCHIN AND WHINING ABOUT KEEPING THE NICKNAME!!

  5. For those scoring at home, how many schools from the original hit list are there remaining who haven't either agreed to change their name and/or logo, or been granted an exemption? Besides UND, I can only think of Illinois, Alcorn State and Arkansas State.

Actually, Arkansas State changed thiers at the recommendation of new president Dr. Robert Potts, the former Chancellor of the NDUS. Hmm.........very interesting.

  6. But there are those who know the "real" truth on Ralph and will not stand for this "blasphemy" by Mr. Beloff. The voice of Ralph's friends, like Mr. Beloff, will be drowned out by those in the "know". Just like fourwindsboy is in the know on all things NA and everyone else is out in left field with their thoughts and opinions...including Mr. Fool Bear.

Why is it that when Mr. Foolbear writes a letter and makes his case, he's absolutely speaking the truth and put on a pedestal, but when another NA makes says the oppsite, he's chastised. I did not ever say all members of my tribe were against the name, but a significant number are and that will be enough. I really wanted my alma mater to take the high road as an INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION and do what the leaders of such prestigous universities like Dartmouth and Stanford did in changing their names. I guess they'll have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Come get some!

  7. Recently I posted on this site and someone took me to task for standing up for what I believe. It had to do with the vile and what I perceived as hostile approach to some members of this board to the actions of TJ Oshie. The presumption of guilt without facts just grates me, probably because as a proud American I was brought up believing that this premise is a key to our democratic groundings. By the same token a member of the Board appears to be presenting themselves as the spokes person of "our" people. This thread began in response to a letter from a Tribal member with one point of view and another Tribal member, with a distinct different perspective, is recklessly allowing the perception to be formed that he speaks for all of us. Neither of these individual's speaks for anyone but themselves. That is their perogative. I too was raised on a reservation - at at time when things were different. My elders and mentors taught me that we must exist in this world consistent with what in our language is termed "Mitakuye Oyasin". Basically, it embodies the premise that we are all related. Some of the vile and hostile notes that I have seen on this board (from those wanting us to believe that they represent Tribal interests) I see as nothing more than a divide and conquer mentality. On one hand I am taken back because this is so inconsistent with our teachings and the other I am wondering if this really isn't someone masquarading just to stir the pot! I do believe that this is a time, if ever, to understand the teachings of our elders, especially when it comes to Mitakuye Oyasin. Someone far more wise than I captured what it means in the followng prayer that is still spoken:

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin....All my relations. I honor you in this circle of life with me today. I am grateful for this opportunity to acknowledge you in this prayer....

To the Creator, for the ultimate gift of life, I thank you.

To the mineral nation that has built and maintained my bones and all foundations of life experience, I thank you.

To the plant nation that sustains my organs and body and gives me healing herbs for sickness, I thank you.

To the animal nation that feeds me from your own flesh and offers your loyal companionship in this walk of life, I thank you.

To the human nation that shares my path as a soul upon the sacred wheel of Earthly life, I thank you.

To the Spirit nation that guides me invisibly through the ups and downs of life and for carrying the torch of light through the Ages. I thank you.

To the Four Winds of Change and Growth, I thank you.

You are all my relations, my relatives, without whom I would not live. We are in the circle of life together, co-existing, co-dependent, co-creating our destiny. One, not more important than the other. One nation evolving from the other and yet each dependent upon the one above. All of us a part of the Great Mystery.

    Thank you for this Life.

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin is a simple yet profound statement. It comes from the Lakota Nation and means all my relations. It is spoken during prayer and ceremony to invite and acknowledge all relatives to the moment.

To most of us today, relative means a blood relation or another human in the family lineage. We have not been taught that an entity, other than human, could be a relative. Understanding this simple statement and contemplating it, could change your outlook on life forever. If you love and honor your relatives, you would be loving and honoring most of what is on this earth, if you lived by this meaning of

  8. You can be sure, I'll be showing this entire forum at Standing Rock's meetings, "with special emphasis on your's", If you were really trying to make people understand your point of view, you did a terrible job.

Could you do that for me, that would be a big help? Pidamaya.

  9. The only problem with placing a member on 'ignore' is that when someone responds to that member's post, it's visible. :glare:

My recommendation is to quit getting sucked into fourwinds diatribes. A person only has to look at his posts to know that his primary purpose on this forum is to insult anyone that doesn't agree with him and to make ignorant statements designed to create animosity. Put the poor guy on ignore and save us all from his needling posts.

Ya know I first came on this forum to give a point of veiw from the native side since no one else appeared to be doin it. But it was obvious from the first responses to my posts that only thing anyone wants to hear is support for the nickname. The only other person to be in favor of changing is hermit and he was banned. But I guess i shouldn't have expected anything better from a "Fighting Sioux" forum. You have all been very useful though. When and if we have a meeting on my Rez regarding the nickname you can bet I will print and circulate some of the garbage from this forum and others I have been on. So i guess a big thank you is in order for doing your parts to get the nickname changed. Peace.

  10. Somebody has to care for your sorry ass because you'll find someone to blame your physical ills on! And I don't dislike you because you are NA, it is because you are an idiot.

And by the way, you do what to contribute to the betterment of society? Not much...thought so!

Haven't been to the doc in 17 years, keep myself in tip-top shape. Thanks for your concern though. By the way, I'm an educator and my Bio class just finished a genetic analysis of a number of straits in our community, so I am at least making a small contribution. You have a good day now, ya hear!

  11. Affected me because I have not read anything so pathetic as all your posts on this site. You are the worst of the worst. You are a racist in minority skin who constantly plays the victim role. Seek your revenge against UND and maybe you'll feel vindicated. Your "own people" must be so proud of you and there in lies why some many NA go back to the reservation...to sit around and point fingers at everyone else for their percieved plight. And as for the "sittin in their trailor" rant, I hope that wasn't pointed at me because as a physican I really enjoy trying to help people, your people included, who take no responsibility or accountability for their own well being. Look in the mirror and there is your main problem!

    :glare:

    Your a Physician, too.

  12. This post in a nutshell is pathetic. You need help. And maybe you can get Rev. Wright to help champion your cause! Ever think that this mentality of your is your own worst enemy??

The fact that you replied to my post tells me it affected you at some level. Whether or not I need help will be up to me or maybe the authorities but you can bet it won't be at the behest of someone sittin in their trialer, watchin Jerry while finishing their last can of Hamm's for breakfast. Also, I don't need Rev. Wright to champion my cause, my own people will do that when the time comes. Finally, no this mentality is not my worst enemy. If you lived my life and seen the things I have seen growing up you might understand. Pidamaya, for your concern though. peace!

  13. What you're saying is that unless the name is changed there is no reason for any more talking. Basically it isn't a dialog but you lecturing us and telling us how bad of people we are. All the while you have no idea who we are or what kind of people we are. Your only making inferences, most of which aren't very close to being on the mark or accurate.

I would recommend that basically you would be more happy probably not posting here any more because it would appear from your opinion none of us are enlightened enough to have a conversation with you. Personally I/we are still waiting for you to give us the incident(s) that you claim happen to you. Maybe we would be able to shed some light on your perspective. Other than that you seem like a bitter angry person that can't wait to stick it to the man.

Lastly, I would never approve of these racial incident you say happened to you. All the people that I know would never commit one of these things/incidents that you say happened to you... Finally, not every look, comment, incident, perceived action or act directed your way is a reflection of the Fighting Sioux name or the Logo. Some of this stuff is just people being stupid. These things will be here long after the Fighting Sioux name is gone and dead. I personally wonder what the ANTI-name people are going to blame this on after the name is gone?

The name changing will prove or solve nothing.

I know a guy who is has two daughters of NA decent (who are standing rock Sioux) and he is more worried of what is going to happened when the name is changed. This guy thinks his daughters might face a hostility because of the name changing.

Goon ,look up toward the top of the page by the post written by dead-rabbit.

  14. And how does the nickname impact those things? How did the nickname contribute to causing those things? How does the fact that white people say the nickname and wear clothing with the image reinforce the negative feelings you experienced then?

one important thing that I want to stress is that unless you have had these experiences and walked in my shoes you will never, ever be able to know what it feels like. Until you can do that, this dialogue we are having is pointless and neverending.

  15. I would still be interested in hearing about racially motivated incidents that happened to you at UND. If you're hesitant to do so because people may call you a liar, or that you've exaggerated what had happened, you shouldn't worry about those people. You were there, you know what happened, and I am interested in hearing what happened.

Well, lets see, I don't know how many times I was asked if I got my check. many, non natives beleive we all get checks, which is false. More than one time I heard the stereotypical iniand sound made by tapping your mouth and holloring, if you understand what I am saying. One time I attempted to throw a pop can in the garbage can on the wing in West hall but missed. I was told by one of the guys on the floor to pick it up cause "this wasn't the rez". I walked into the suite area of one of the rooms on my floor and heard one of the guys ask my roommate if he was worried about the cleanliness of our room because of me. There are other incidence, those are just a few.

  16. The PC Police wants them tar and feathered.

Why can't some people just understand that some people are aholes and most people are not. Fourwinds I think you need to walk it off a little bit.

Just asked a question, didn't need a smarta$$ answer. Some other posters asked me why I didn't report the racial incidents when I was at school and this answers I got to my question pretty much confirm why I didn't report.

  17. A few things:

    1. I'll repeat myself again: fourwindsboy cannot be a racist. He's not white. Any anti-white statements he makes or has made is just his lashing out rightfully at the harsh oppressors of his ancestors. I find that laughable because I'm technically first generation American so my ancestors never knew Native Americans even existed while back in the Old Country of Eastern Europe.

    2. Siouxfan in Denver - Are you arguing against fourwindsboy? If yes, then, yes, you are a racist.

    3. Chewey is right. When life holds me, Jews, or Christians down, we pick ourselves up and try to right the ship. If we were wronged along the way, we correct the wrong by attacking the person or company that performed the wrong. We have to look at things rationally. Perhaps there is something we did to provoke it. Why did I lose my job? Was it because I'm Jewish? I have lost jobs in my past, but in no way was it because I was Jewish. I somehow doubt many who are a minority would see a white guy firing them as not a racist move. I have been told to my face that I am going to Hell because I'm Jewish. I have been told that I (not the Jewish people) killed Jesus Christ. I have been told to my face that the Holocaust never happened. I've heard people say the phrase, "Don't Jew me, pal." Well, so what? Those people were idiots. I will not hold an entire ethnicity, nationality, or religious organization accountable for the actions of those idiots. The Native American activists can't seem to handle that idea.

We do not hold an entire race or country accountable for the actions of one company or the actions of a few representative of a country who are A) no longer in power and B) long since dead. For example, I do not plan on attacking blond haired German nationals over the Holocaust. Racism is perpetuated by the victims of it. They cannot see that the actions of a select few are just that, the actions of a select few. They hold the entire race responsible. They hide behind their perceived oppression to the point where people who may be distantly related to those who were oppressed feel themselves having been oppressed. How many black people alive today know slavery? The truth is, they don't. Their great-grandparents or great-great-grandparents might if they are still alive, but they don't. A great example of this attitude in black culture is this R&B/Hip Hop singer Rhianna (I think her name is) who claims Gangsta rap doesn't exist and wears an ak-47 necklace to represent the Black Panther movement's violent tendencies. I can find more direct quotes if you want, but there is NO WAY IN HELL she was alive for even a portion of what the true Black Panthers went through.

I never owned a slave. I did not participate in driving Native Americans from their homes. I have never chanted any derogatory remarks towards any Native American or minority persons, yet I'm lumped in with the entire ethnicity because I'm Caucasian. Well, so be it. Better to be a racist for false pretenses than a holier than thou bigot who cannot see his or her own flaws despite him or herself.

Those are some pretty good points redwing. Best I've read since bein on here. Again, I don't feel I'm a racist. I have many freinds who are not NA. I just feel it's wrong to have UND use the nickname because we as natives do not feel honored and there is a significant % that feel as I do. I'm not gonna get into the argument of %'s and so on. I assumed that people on this board would be open minded to my beleifs, but apparently if I am against the nickname then everything i write is hogwash. Which I guess is OK, I never expected to be welcomed with open arms. One major point i want to make is it seems that most on here are making assumptions about present day NA's without really knowing any NA's or experiencing life on a rez. There's alot of I heard this and my friend told me that, etc. I'm an educated person and I know I can live anywhere in the USA I want but choose to live here on my rez because I am happy here and like serving my people. It isn't anywhere near as bad as you think it is.

  18. I would just like to say that in 2005, I was traveling on I-94 from Bismarck to Mpls when I got a flat tire. I'm not even kidding when I write this, but I too was very close to Steele. Anyway, there I was on the side of the road all by myself trying to change a tire. At the time, I was a 27 year old, white female. No one stopped to help me. I was there for almost 45 minutes dealing with this tire and having to unpack my trunk and move stuff around. But alas, I did it all by myself and had to return to Bismarck on a classy little donut tire.

So I guess my point is that there may be an area of I-94 that is like a Bermuda Triangle for vehicle trouble... since no one stopped to help me, it must be because I was a girl... or, maybe people traveling at 75 mph are going a little too fast to properly assess the situation before they have passed it. Just a thought, I'm just saying I don't think everything that may be about race/gender is actually about race/gender. Oh yeah, I will also admit that since that day when no one stopped to help me, I still don't stop to help others. Sorry to anyone if I've passed you by.

fourwindsboy, how many people have you stopped to help while they were either broken down on the Interstate/Highway or walking on the Interstate/Highway? Just wondering.

Oh yeah - I have worked with the Spirit Lake Tribe and the reservation in the past and found the majority of them to be wonderful people. I will admit though, there were cultural differences for which we all had to make adjustments.

Actually when I was going to school in Bozeman I must have traveled the interstate between Bismarck and there at least 50 times and I stopped and helped motorists twice, both with flat tires and also picked up hitchhikers twice. I kinda made a vow after my experience that I would help stranded motorists.

  19. Actually, I think he's saying that you and people like you perpetuate racism. You and people like you are racists. The Jesse Jackson's of the world would be lost without racism because they have no identity and no power apart from the victim mentality. You and Jesse Jackson should read the new book by Juan Williams. What you and people like you are saying, essentially, is that "racism existed and blacks, NA's, etc were persecuted (which they were terribly) so we (the NA's such as you, blacks such as Jesse Jackson, etc.) get to be racist now and we are justified in being racists because look at what happened to our ancestors. In fact, it's not racism because look at what happened to our ancestors." Healthy? Logical? Productive? Will help to end racism? Ah, nope. Racist? negative energy? perpetuation of racial stereotypes? Unhealthy? Serving to further hurt the descendants of those who were persecuted? Yep. The "we get to be racists because our ancestors were persecuted" argument does not wash at all.

I'm not racist. I have many friends who are caucasion. I work with caucasions. I admire and respect people like Einstein, Robert Devries, Bobby Knight, Dr. Seabloom and Dr. O'Rielly at UND. I have met many people of different races who I respect. I just feel very deeply that it's time the name be changed. I do not feel honored by the Fighting Sioux nickname. Actions speak louder than words. You say you are honoring me but would you give me the time of day if I asked for it? Let me tell you a story. About 10 years ago I was goin to Bismarck for a meeting. It was in march and the temp was in the 30's. About 5 miles past Steele my pickup gave out. I opened my hood had the flashers on but no one stopped. I walked 5 miles back to Steele without anyone giving me a ride on the interstate! Now I obviously look Native American but come on. Why wouldn't anyone give me a ride? How many of you have been to a rez? Have you ever been in the home of a NA? There are alot of contradictions in this matter. No answers either.

And chewey, you don't know what he was trying to say. Why do you automatically defend his statement? It's a downright ignorant statement and you know it.
