  1. I have two concerns:

    1. Do you always view people by the color of their skin ("caucasions" <sic>) and not the content of their character?

    2. Say you are correct and the name changes: You will have great emptiness in your life. Which windmill will you tilt at next?

    HAHAHAHA!!!!!

  2. Thank You Goon! Fighting Sioux clothing is one of the highest selling in college sports. It's one of the most beautiful logos in the world. The loss of the logo will be another step towards people not knowing what the NA heritage is. If we change the name, few will know about the trIbes in North Dakota and i believe that its a huge step backward for Native Americans. I just dont get what they will gain out of the name change other than people mad about them changing it. Its sad. Really sad.

So your saying that wearing a UND jersey promotes Dakota culture? 9/10 caucasions who are UND fans wouldn't know Dakota culture if it hit them in the face! Nor do they want to know. All they care about is the logo/name and don't give a rats a$$ about NA's. By the way, the name is still going to be changed regardless of the vote results at SL, bank on it.

  3. I think they would be hard pressed to dispute the totals. 2/3 of the vote in favor would be tough to argue, but you never know. :D

Remember, there will be 2 new council people and maybe a new chairmen in June and if you these are opponents of the name then this issue will be brought up again. This issue isn't gonna die peope until the name is changed!

  4. Hopefully this will end up Win-Win not Lose-Lose

I go to Devils Lake every weekend & I saw more Natives, this summer, wearing Fighting Sioux clothing, than ever before -

    young & older

My Grandson was with me during the Ceremony & was really interested - I told him this is the Real Sioux, who let us use their name & that we want to Honor & Remember them & Thank them for our Name & I'm telling you he was impressed & very interested (how sad if this did not continue) - It is one of best PR opportunities for The Sioux Nations & UND

I think it was great to see

I wish the Team could give tickets to both Tribes Radio Stations - to give away (to those who will use them) & they can monitor how many are used - I bet most would be used & many will try to get them (just like they do here for concerts etc.)

But I too think it will take a vote of the People, to let us keep the name - I wonder if they had a petition, if the leadership would have a referral type vote - if they got enough signatures ?

In my 5 years at UND, no one ever thanked me for letting UND use the name nor did I feel one bit honored in my time there. I did though, experience more racial prejudice than I care to recount. You know, only about a handfull of SLT members have gone to school at UND, and pretty much all of them are oppsed to the name. I wish all of my brethren could spend some time on campus and get a feel for what its like to be an NA there.

  5. Thanks 82SiouxGuy, and yes fourwindsboy, I was wondering if you thought it was appropriate for the landmark to be put up in Devils Lake, since the town isn't on the reservation. I don't care how much it cost, or who paid for them, I just wanted to know what you thought of it being there.

I didn't ever hear why the 4 landmarks were put up, other than what is in the community.

    They are:

    Agriculture

    Tourism

    Spirit Lake Tribe

    Camp Grafton (i think)

I guess I was surprised considering the shoddy treatment of NA's in DL. Every response I have heard about the landmark from SLT members is pretty much just a shrug and a feeling that its about time DL does something considering about 1/3 of the their revenue comes from the rez(oops, can't use that word, offensive!), SLT.

  6. Great cermony at the Ralph. I saw the 14 protestors, after the editorials in the Dakota Student and the GF Herald, combined with the email sent to all UDN faculty and students....you would think if it were a worthy cause, there would be hundreds or a thousand people there. Compare this to the 100 plus reservation members at the game, they were not noticable at all. There was a very nice drum ceremony before the game...very educational. GO SIOUX!

Just curious, how was it educational?

  7. Because they were asked to do it. Groups from both reservations visited campus and the arena in the last year. One question was repeated multiple times. (I am paraphrasing) "You have flags up from the United States, Canada and the state flag of North Dakota. If you respect us as you keep saying, why don't you have our flags in the arena?" REA agreed that they should do that, so they are. Jody Hodgeson from REA was just on Mac Talk on KNOX Radio discussing this.

See this is what bugs the hell outta me. If UND has been honoring the "Sioux" all of these years by using the nickname then why didn't they hang these flags along time ago? Why wait until now when we are in the midst of all this controversy? All you nickname proponents from SLT and SRT can't you see you are being used for propaganda purposes by UND so they can impress the NCAA? I can see it already: UND to the NCAA- "Look at these pictures of all the happy Sioux children at the UND hockey game". Shameless! Answer me this: When UND has to change it's nickname, how long till the SLT/SRT flag burning ceremony?

  8. Why is that? Because we disagree and you know I'm right in the fact that not ALL NAs agree with you and Ronnie on this issue? Ronnie and the other "tribal leaders" are the ND NA version of Sharpton and Jackson to the black community in this country. Does the word enablers strike a nerve??

Of course they don't all agree with me and I never claimed they did. It's just funny that just because someone disagrees with your stance on the nickname then they are "brainwashed".

  9. You're right, those attending from the res will be those who aren't being brainwashed by tribal "leaders" and actually feel the REA and UND are doing the right thing here. Now we all know where your stance is on this situation, but frankly your stance and the one of Ronnie Horse Is Thunder is not what everyone on the res feels or agrees with.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You sleigh me!

  10. I had asked earlier and was still wondering if anyone knew that the native signers and drummers would be members from the Standing Rock and/or Spirit Lake tribes? Could the tribe themselves (RHHT, leaders, etc.) put a stop to that? I suppose if they couldn't, they would probably just state that they are not actually representing the tribe(s).

    Thanks.

None of the individuals who will be attending this propanganda show will be acting as an official of the SLT.

  11. fourwindsboy,

What do you think of the city of Devils Lake putting up the Spirit Lake Nation "landmark" (1 of 4) at the intersection of highways 2 and 20 in Devils Lake?

If your'e suggesting DL put that up at no cost to the SLT you are wrong, sir. The SLT paid their share for it.

  12. I think it is funny that you think that UND is somehow stooping to a low level, while tribal leaders will not even listen to the members of their own tribes. I think that leaders you do not listen are only after setting their own agenda and not that of the people they represent. So to me the tribal leaders are the ones that are stooping really low.

Come on we're not a bunch of ignoramous'. The tribe flag hangs on almost all entities on the rez. You should come to the rez sometime you'll find out.

  13. Check this out....link....maybe it has something to do with our logo after all!

    I'm only kidding, btw....

I don't know if those are Native Americans and I'll bet that picture was taken pre WWII when no one stateside knew who the nazis where.

  14. You know what's scary and chilling about this whole issue is you people are making excuses and rationalizing that these things aren't happeneing at UND and they are! That sends a chill down my spine. Wow!

  15. This is really sad. As a parent, I question the teachers and professors who have voiced their opposition to the name and logo; NOT because they voice their opinion but the manner in which they do so. These people are teaching our children! I don't want my son/daughter to go to school and be told, 'Whitey screwed you out of California, Arizona, New, Mexico, Texas, etc. Now it's up to you to 'stick it to the man.' This is someone's agenda. My goal in sending my children to school is to complement what they learn at home, be confident in who you are, education is a key to your future, there are many different people out there-learn from them, there may be things that you don't like but you have to find ways to get along/accept and offer solutions to make things better for yourself and others. There are lots more but you get the idea.

These 'educators are negative to the core.

    1. They make broad, unsubstantiated allegations and profess them to be the truth.

    2. They blame a name and logo for all the negative things that happen to them and others.

    3. They state bitter, angry, vengeful things, '..stick it to the man..' as the ultimate goal.

    4. They don't offer the opportunity to learn and grow from something they perceive as a negative.

    5. They only see one side of an issue. (That can be said of tsome he pro name and logo folks as well.)

    6. They don't see compromise as a solution.

There's more but the first hour rush is beginning.

I could feel the bullseye on me so I'll reply. You all think I'm an A-hole, which is fine with me as I probably am. But I can tell you all honestly that this subject has never been discussed in any of the classes I teach, NEVER. Whether or not you beleive me, I don't care. I Know the truth and thats all that matters. I also have never discussed or brought the "Stick it to whitey" mentality in my classes, again if you don't believe, fine. Unfortunately, the students are bringing that attitude with them from home. They and their parents/relatives have had experiences that are shaping their attitudes toward caucasions. We have, on occasion, discussed race relations and the message I try to give is tolerance and mutual respect. I take my job very serious and know my responsibility in molding young minds. I have also never discussed this garbage with my own kids. Hoka.

  16. Yes you are. Unless you are also going to say the Gamma Phi's who dressed up like Native Americans are Native American lovers then you can't say people who dressed up like Nazi's are Nazi lovers. Most of todays mondern day Nazi's are associated with the skinheads and white supremicist movements and don't dress up in WWII uniforms. In this day and age it certainly was thoughtless. I dont' think they gave much thought to whether or not it was disrespectful. There have been similar western parties at HS and Colleges across the country over the years and those schools don't have NA logos.

I would hope you don't define who you are by your ethnic origin. That is only a small part of it. If so, you will continue to ge bent out of shape over things that aren't that important. You will also limit your opportunites for success. Too many people use their culture or ethnic origin as their excuse for anything that does't turn out well. I think over the years you will learn that is a waste of you time and emotional energy. We can be much more than an Italian or Irishman or Native American. I would hope all of us want to be known based on our own success and accomplishments rather than limited by just our ethnic origin. It should be enough that you are an American and a UND graduate. That should take you a lot farther than being a Native American, Irishman, Italian or even Norwegian.

The logo issue is no longer an issue for most of us and we can't change it even if we wished. It really doesn't need to be an issue for you either. As you say, you won this one. Your focus now should be how are you going to use that "victory to make a better world for you and me, your family and your community. Good luck.

I aggree with everything except the first paragrph. There is a huge difference between the Nazi's and NA's. Hope you can see that.

  17. He has proven time after time that his sole purpose on this forum is to goad members into arguments. Very likely hoping that someone will say something inflammatory that he can take to 'his people' to prove we're the racists. He posts clearly show he is the racist; prime example of the pot calling the kettle black. I think everyone should put him on ignore. I've said it before he isn't adding anything to the name/logo discussion. He just wants to 'stick it to the man'. People post responses to his ridiculous and erroneous posts to show his errors/misconceptions which once proven he's wrong (again), he ignores their responses.

I have him on ignore but read his antagonistic responses when others respond to his posts. His descent into his mire of racism shows everyone, pro- and against the name and logo what a little man he is. He can't use logic or valid examples to support his stance so he resorts to insults and antagonism. Ignore him.

I already have enough ammo, thank you. Now I'm just havin fun and you just can't help yourself.

  18. AGAIN IN ALL CAPS SINCE YOU SEEMED TO HAVE MISSED IT THE FIRST TIME.....HE WAS CLEARED BY THE FBI.....CLEARED AS IN WAS FOUND TO NOT BE A NAZI SUPPORTER....and as for his parties, he APOLOGIZED FOR THEM including the one that was not proven that it was him hosting it and not his staff. but I am done arguing about it and back on ignore for you.

OK, he apologized and it wasn't proven. I spose you beleived "W" when he said the Iraqi's had WMD's, also. WOW. MT,BSW.

  19. This is going to annoy me so, RALPH WAS NOT A NAZI LOVER. THE FBI CLEARED HIM!!!!!! I appreciate your concern, but I really don't see what Ralph has to do with an incident on campus happening how many years after his death between two people unrelated to him. For that matter since that nonfact keeps being brought up as a reason to change the name, i have no clue what he has to do with the nickname.

It is something that was solved years ago, so it doesn't need to be brought up continuely.

End of my rant.....Have a nice day.

So he has a gala at his casino to celebrate the Nazi's and he isn't a Nazi lover? Am I missin something here?

  20. Ummm...didn't you send the pleasant private messagae to me? :D For me to share your venom surely isn't going to put you in a "better" light to anyone on this site. You'll just keep digging your own hole without any assistance from me. :) Keep it up and you'll be a bigger embarrassment to your own people than you already are. :D

Startin to feel better now? Thats it, get it all out. I have way, way more self esteem than this forum can take out of me. ;)
