  1. So basically not much lost on either side of the ball.

Bison going to be real good. Maybe anothe run, maybe not. GSU is returning vitrually everyone as well, and I could not be happier they went FBS. That game was a nightmare white knuckler all the way through, and Bison would not have won if it was in GSU.

  2. LMAO

No rational Bison fan was saying he would leave early.

The rumor got started on the Bohl show because the dude running it made a reference comment too it, and Bohl impied Marcus is enlisting papers to get an idea of his evaluation, which is what the majority of all junior players who are on scouts radar do.

  3. Bison also got their best dlinemen back, Leevon Perry who was lost to injury earlier in the year.

Marcus Williams has played man coverage his entire year at NDSU, and is the reason why Williams is being looked at for the NFL. He will not go next year, he's enlisting to see what he needs to work on for the following year like the majority of underclassmen being looked at. I don't think he'll ever be more than a mid round gu yat best, and if he doesn't improve on his performances the last 3 games he will not play in the NFL at all.

  4. Trust me it doesn't get any better, the BSC refs are notoriously known for their extreme ineptitude.

Good win guys, see you guys on Saturday. Any of you planning on making the trip?

Low level D1 college basketball officiating is brutal all the way around. It's worse than a lot of D2.

  5. Jones is 88-105 right now, and this is his seventh season. There have been three seasons with a record just over .500, one with an exactly .500 record and two with a sub-.500 record.

Will be a little different with a legitimate D1 schedule.

  6. Bohl has purged a lot of players with character issues, playing issues, and work ethic problems. There are 7 total seniors on this seasons team, mainly because the attirtion rate for the class was brutal, and Bohl has since then changed some issues with recruiting. I'm an NDSU diehard, I cannot stand UND for obvious reasons, but believe it or not I'm waiting desperately for your program to come around and contend on a national level. I'm sick and tired of the southeastern schools saying we can't play up here, and I know if UND gets to where there program can be they are going to think differently. It took one great recruiting class at NDSU to change things around, along with a difference in recruiting philosophy.

I obviously read differently with his comments, because I agree with him in players win the games, and you need the right players that want to win, and that starts off the field in January leading up to the season. The NDSU players now work their ass off 12 months out of the year, and the same could not be said with the players before them.

  7. I have heard some strange things but to say a coach has nothing to do with winning is asinine. I'm sure he recruits kids that are or have the make up to be leaders. If I'm not mistaken the coach has alot to do with recruiting such players.

I don't think anyone is saying the coaches have nothing to do with it. But let's not forget just 3 years ago Bohl was an average season away from being fired.

  8. UND players want to win NDSU players need to win and will do whatever it takes to do so. That is the difference between the two and it has nothing to do with the coach. He can say all he wants but at the end of the day the players need to buy in 100% and push themselves as hard and far as possible. With Mussman swinging the axe this offseason the players will figure it out or be gone.

I agree with this. Winning is a culture. Winning programs have a winning culture. Bohl had to purge a number of players before he found the ones that turned the culture at NDSU into a winning one.

  9. by chance, I watched the game tonight with a trio of former UND players. Their response, was interesting to say the least.

NDSU is going to lose the title game by at least 20. That team is a train wreck, not anywhere near championship material. I'm not going to waste my time or money going to the title game.

I've been observing these forums for quite some time, and this is probably one of the dumbest things I think I've ever seen posted on an FCS football board.

  10. This is funny.

I would never cheer for UND. Never. I would never expect UND to cheer for NDSU. Never. Does a UNC fan ever cheer for Duke?

NDSU fans could care less about hockey. When they watch sportscenter at night they don't ever see college hockey highlights. Because in the world of college sports on a generalization level, nobody cares about hockey. Why should UND care about NDSU basketball going to the tournament? Hockey rules for them, and rightfully so. They have one of the best programs in the country year in and year out, and are probably on there way to another championship, or at least have as good of an opportunity as anybody at the championship.

In Fargo, nobody cares about hockey right now. In Grand Forks, nobody cares about basketball.

It's a win win situation for both schools.

  11. And the question remains: does he really think that the University of North Dakota isn't aware that they need to "resolve" the issue?

This is what's confusing. Half the argument against Douple is, "it's been resolved, it will be dealt with once the 3 year period is up", and the other half is "UND knows they need to resolve it, so it shouldn't be an issue...." Is it resolved, or not?

And it's completely not about "being banned from hosting a championship", it's about supporting a school that is in question with the NCAA. It is in question, even though the time limit has been set. What happens when the time limit is up? I've even said posts in this thread from fans saying "what if we don't do anything about it and decide to face sanctions".

Both sides are ignorant to a degree. Douple needs to understand the the University isn't going to do anything to jeopardize it's athletic future, and UND needs to understand that these situations are going to come up regardless until it is
    officially
    resolved.

I can see arguments both for, and against, both sides. The underlying fact is, this could not be at a worse time to be going through the nickname situation (making the move up to D1). The good news is that both will be resolved when the time frame of being a fully fledged D1 member has expired
  12. Summit League Makes Visit to USDDoes Douple really talk in a stacatto manner or is this the reporter only picking parts of what he said for print?

Picking parts. It's what the comma grouping represents.

Douple's covering his own azz. He's making a simple statement about UND getting their nickname solved before The Summit considers UND. Like he stated, he doesn't care how. And it isn't some conspiracy theory to keep UND out of the Summit. When UND resolves their nickname, they will get a look, and a very strong consideration. At that point Douple isn't going to care about the nickname issue.

But for now, there isn't one good reason for him to even mess with UND, even with the assumption of"it's going to get taken care of down the road". That assumption doesn't mean it's officially resolved, and that's what Douple's looking for. It's a smart decision to stay out of the wrath of the NCAA. He doesn't want to incur any future problems, and lose favoring with the NCAA because of a decision he made to show any support whatsoever for a school that has lingering issues against the NCAA. It's a lose-lose cause.

I suspect when UND gets their issue resolved officially, they will get a strong consideration and maybe even an invite, certainly if USD gets one. Until then, UND is just going to have to deal with it.

  13. Anyone else suprised that the Summit didn't get ONE team in the NIT? Seems to me like there should be at least 2 teams going on to a tourney at the end of the year. Does (has) that league always gotten that little respect? Seems to be no margin for error playing in that conference.

The Summit is a middle of the road conference at best. It's very hard for teams in those conferences to get at large bids into the NIT. Teams that win their regular season conference and not their conference tourneys, get auto bids into the NIT. The remainder of the teams are filled by bubble teams just missing out, and then other major conference teams for marketing. IUPUI could have made an argument, but with a very low profit program, it's a negative for them because the NIT is politically based and wants viewer ship.

Summit finished 22nd out of 31 conferences this year. It will never be much better than average because it's a feeder conference for the Missouri Valley. Up and coming programs with repeated success usually make the jump to the Missouri Valley at some point, which was the 8th best conference and usually one of the premier mid major conferences year in and year out.

To get a basis of where the Summit usually finishes, the Big SKy conference finished 25th. The Summit and Big Sky usually finish very close with each other, with the SUmmit usually finishing a couple steps higher. Both conferences are relatively the same, but the top 2-3 in the SUmmit are significantly better than any teams in the Big sky year in and out.

Why are their Gopher fans, and Bison fans, arguing with each other about their programs at a UND forum in the basketball recruiting section?
