Well, F***. I had a feeling this day was coming. I don't hold anything against him as I can't blame a guy for taking care of his family. This is just an indictment of college sports and the poison that all the money involved is. He's getting paid double the salary of MSU's president as the hockey coach at Wisconsin. If there is anything that's going to kill college sports it's the money involved.

I look at this differently.  I think this promotes that  the idea of capitalism is well and good. We may or may not be  in the careers, where we able to take a job where we end up making more than our current boss.  This example demonstrates that.  I think Coach Hastings is a very good coach.  I’m sure those in Mankato will rightfully miss him, but he left the program in a good place  and his legacy there will always be part of the foundation of the programs bedrock.

Is Malachi McNeal going to be one of those younger guys that steps up this year and we see a lot more playing time and production from?  Seems like we thought he was a good get in the recruiting process.

This is a question I had as well.  I know it was mainly special teams so far, but I’m hoping he takes a step

Some interesting reactions from former players. Hopefully the next couple of years are better than the last 4

I guess it’s just like anything.  It depends on the sample.  A lot of people who are in favor of this, will probably say very little, while those who are not will make the most noise.  But that is the always the case everywhere you go with these

  4. Why does anyone worry about Moore, Johnson or Constantini.  These guys are not good enough.  Certainly a whole season is clear evidence of that.  1 in particular obviously is not any good even in practice that he can’t make the line up.  I am more than fine with it.  We need to make some room on this roster for some different players that can make a difference.  I don’t care if theiy’ve been drafted or highly recruited.  People who get drafted or highly ranked recruits end up flopping all the time, all over the country at college and the pro level.  I am not in least worried about any one leaving for the portal. Not one bit.

To me Sather's team's last dozen or so games got him next season; but, he's still on the same "watch" as Berry and hockey. ... tick-tock ...

    Chris Beard available?

  6. In thinking about these tournaments that sit behind the NCAA and even the WNIT. I think a great deal about the 2013-14 Men’s team.  They were a vteran team that expended absolutely everything trying to win that Big Sky Title at Weber St.  The veterans of Huff, Anderson and Webb had done everything asked. Webb got injured, Schuler was injured etc…when the chance to do the CIT came at Omaha, it was a UND team that was physically spent and emotionally spent. I remember visiting with the coaches at an event that summer, and they admitted that that Omaha CIT game was maybe just too much.  The coaches said that the guys mouths said yes that they would play, and the coaches so much liked coaching that group that they wanted another game with them, but they acknowledged that looking back it,  the guys had spent everything, and it was so apparent in the loss against the Mavericks, that already everything had been given.

What I’m getiting at, although every team is different, sometimes its ok to be done too.  If the Women get a chance to play, I’m all for it, but its not the end of the world if they don’t play in the WBI.  I think of the way this season has ended the last 2 weeks and think with a fairly veteran group, maybe everything has already been given. If that’s the case I thank them for moving this program forward.

  7. I’m not sure I understand the question.  From my view the last several games show that everyone that has been on the floor need to desperately be better defensively. Defense to me is a team thing, the individual part of it is that they have to want to do it. Over and over again.  Not fall asleep on a possession, cause when that happens the whole defense fails.  Opponents will sometimes make shots they have good players, but don’t let another team have too many easy ones.

I thought the first meeting with USD, UND did a great job down on the block on the Yote big, he made a difference late hitting a 3, but sometimes players make 3.  Today UND will have to do a great job on him on the block to start because UND won’t be able to help because of their talented guards

  8. Start or come off the bench what does it matter? The question typically is are you effective?  He has been more than in this role. From what I’ve seen this year Norman has been far more effective when he has come off the bench than when he has started. Just my observation.  Again if they start him, that’s fine…but whether Norman starts or comes off the bench is so not even close to the issues that have plagued this team… unless you are the player or the parent. Typically, that’s where that type of concern comes from. But since  I don’t know him or his parents so I can’t say either way.

I would say on my list of issues facing Men’s Basketball this season, whether or not Norman starting falls somewhere in the high 600’s

Currently over the last several games, number 1, is the team finding more defensive stops. It starts there for me. Can they do it?  Do they want to do it? I guess we’ll find out today and the next 7 games after today

Manhattan had a link on their schedule.  Our staff is too busy with home and home Beaver puck

From what I understand, our communications staff is down to 2 people in that role as the person who was the WBB communications rep left right before the WBB season started.  I saw the job posted, I’m not sure… it may have closed. Now you have 2 people with an FCS playoff game to handle, yes they do have hockey, but they had VB on Thursday and home MBB this weekend, and an event today even though it doesn’t involve any of our teams.  I’m sure it’s not been an easy weekend for those two.  I guess I’m just too understanding, I’ll at least cut them some slack.

  10. When non-conference scheduling in college football is scheduled 5-7 years out or more, how can anyone predict how to effectively schedule teams to aid  your strength of schedule?

  11. I’m sure it’s a lot easier on the budget to pay a North Central Presentation (insert here). As opposed to a Northern Sun team. Just like if Kentucky brings in a Mountain West team- that MWC team would probably demand more than UND could. Or even if Kentucky wanted to bring in a DII that Dll may not be able to get as much as UND could.

Also, because the NSIC has so many teams don’t start playing conference games by mid Nov.? They too want to have some non-conf games against the Presentation(s) and Crown Colleges of the world before fully diving in… so it might even be a little schedule related when it comes down to it.

Have we always paid to get a radio station to cover Und and then Und gets the advertising money?

Starting in 2009 yes—prior to was when it local GF stations bid on it, but the stations got to sell all the advertising and then paid the University what they bid and station groups kept any additional revenue (so if they bid 70k and sold 400k it was a great deal for the radio group- the late 90s and early 2000s were bank with that arrangement for the radio groups.

When they moved to division 1- it flipped, as UND wanted to sell to generate their own revenue, whether themselves or Learfield as its representative or whatever.  I also remember before getting UND back on KFGO, that WDAY/Forum was a steep price tag for that market during the years UND was on 970, from what I was told.  But the recent arrangement with KFGO, was quite amenable(although, haven’t heard what Fargo will be next go round— but probably fairly soon)

  13. 1440 in Grand Forks- is going to be streamed soon, they said that on yesterday’s show so I can still hear the various Coach’s   visits on their morning show regarding UND when my wife & I head to AZ, in the winter— so that will be good
