  1. I would say this is not true, at least in the MIAC and WIAC schools. I knew and played with several high-end NAHL guys who decided to hang up the skates due to the cost of school to play DIII.
  2. Stay tuned. Very soon.
  3. Cam Berg was a portal pick-up as well. I would say a lot of the portal players that UND has historically picked up also have that "bleed green" attribute. Not every single portal pick-up is going to work out. But it's part of the process now.
  4. You cannot play center in college hockey if you do not win face-offs or puck battles in the corner (especially in the d-zone). That's why he was playing wing. Puck possession is crucial and if you fail to be reliable in those two areas, you do not deserve to play center. He'll play wing soon enough at his next stop, too.
  5. That current player is correct. Boisvert is the big loss, obviously.
  6. Turns out the nets at Michigan are still the same size as they were in North Dakota.
  7. If/when he comes back, he should wear a letter. Heart and soul guy who dreamed of playing for the program since he was a little kid. I wouldn't wish what the kid has been going through outside of the rink on my worst enemies. His dad is an ophthalmologist.* And a fantastic human being.
  8. I picked the wrong Lammy. Was saying Mario as a dark horse - intense and a leader.
  9. My guess for short list of coaching staff candidates (no inside information) Smaby, Chyzyk, Trupp, Simpson, Hextall, M Lamoureux
  10. Finalists for the job were DJ, Herter, Smaby, Fohr.
  11. Yes and no. Easiest way around it is funneling NIL money through a Canadian company or bank. No change in visa status, green card, etc. required.
  12. Two things can be - and I think are - true: 1) Brad is a high character, good person who cares deeply for UND Hockey and always will. 2) It was time to move in a different direction. His letter was fantastic and classy IMHO. He will receive the same treatment that Blais and Hak receive when they show him on the big board at the Ralph.
  13. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the rule is new this year that a goalie only has X amount of time to fix an equipment issue on an icing - so teams do not stall to "fix" equipment with tired players on the ice who are not allowed to change. Teams can switch goalies or use their timeout.
  14. To my knowledge, Grant was not offered a scholarship and was simply expected to walk-on. Was not even recruited until he committed to Minnesota. Sioux fan growing up. Pretty poor foresight* as it cost UND G Potulny, R Potulny and D Irmen. Similarly, Michigan St locking up the oldest Cullen was masterclass as it likely means they get the family (with the younger ones being even better and that's no knock on Brooks who is a really solid hockey player).
  15. I'll take RhettRingers word for it, hasn't been wrong yet. I'm softening/warming up to/accepting DJ as the HC. The sky isn't falling. It's not what I personally wanted out of the whole thing as I think it is a more short-sighted decision to try and keep current players and recruits rather than getting an up and comer that could be a longer term solution. But with fresh blood in the assistant coaches' group (paint me as someone who thinks Chyzyk would be great in that role if interested), there is optimism.
  16. There were 100% off-ice issues - especially relating to senior/graduate so-called leadership.
  17. My frustrations if Dane is the pick (regardless if he and Berry disagree): 1) He's in that room, too. Off-ice and locker room fall on all involved. 2) His main duties on the team were recruitment, forwards, penalty kill. All 3 areas that have struggled as of late. The forwards outside of a few - and definitely not in the higher skill players - showed little compete. The penalty kill was ranked 50-something in the country. There's also no guarantee players stay. There are a couple that will absolutely jump in the portal because Dane is the guy. He's not universally loved in the locker room.
  18. Strongly disagree.
  19. Yes. One who has USA WJC coaching experience, has been shown to be a program builder in a place that is not a hockey hot bed (no offense to Sioux Falls), was a leader when he played, connects with the modern player, and great recruiter - getting Knies (AZ) and Cooley (PA) to come to MN.
  20. Close ties to the 2024-25 Men's Hockey Support Staff
  21. Just reporting from a reliable source. I was pretty shocked when I heard this as well. In fact, if that's the direction they go I would rather have had Berry play out his final year of his contract, not extend, and make the pivot then. That's obviously not what happened. I guess we will all have to see. I hope there will be a completely different voice(s) in the locker room. As for KG that some people are discussing. Same source indicated the he has a difficult time connecting with the players. He is incredibly smart/highly intelligent. But for lack of a better term - a little socially awkward. Today's college players are not the same as they were 20 years ago. They want to be coached and communicated differently. For what it's worth I want a young, up-and-comer. I have been very high on Raboin for a long time. Was actually campaigning in my circles for him well-before Christmas. He brings a lot to the table.
  22. Rumor comes from someone who would absolutely know what is going on - we literally have anonymous avatars and names on this site - so I'm not going to "out" anyone. But I can tell you this person absolutely has close ties with the staff and would absolutely have some pulse on it. I'm not saying it WILL happen and I definitely would not be happy about it (this would be the most backwards move they could make IMHO). But just sharing what I have heard.
  23. Rumor mill is that Hak is out, Dane is the front runner at this moment. What an absolute slap in the face if that's the case. Raboin is who rodent fans want as their coach when Motzko retires, was responsible for Cooley and Knies committing to MN. I'd rather have Matt Cullen over DJ with no coaching experience. At least we get his kids to come and light it up.
  24. Don’t care what record says. SCSU is not a good team and UND got out-worked all day.
