  1. Your comments are fair - I only disagree on the media stuff.

I believe the WDAZ interview was not her idea and perhaps she felt obligated to do it. I personally don't know the background on the tv interview so I can't comment further. And I continue to believe - to her credit - she held UND in a good light through all of this, when it may have been personally very difficult to do so.

I'm giving the young lady a lot of credit for that - in this day and age you don't see that anymore.

Go look around at home many juniors-to-be-seniors transfer every year. It's in the 100's.  Granted this one was because she was unhappy but its not really much different.  It's because its our little world and that should never happen to us, etc.

Yes, we know that there are issues.  But the level of drama with this one is a bit much.  A sit down, Katie Couric style interview - really?

Do you think FF wanted the drama? She had enough of Brew's head games and BS, stayed a season longer than many of us expected, and tried to quietly hit the road. Wayne Nelson heard the rumor, confirmed it through UND, and broke the story in the media. The rest of the interviews and nonsense is just part of the game when a local talent that commits to a local team decides to leave. Yes - 100s of junior players transfer, that is true. And yes - it is within our own little UND world and now it's "a story". If you know anything about UND sports, you know that's how things work around here, like it or not.

As far as the previous comment about her love affair with MSU goes, I think that's ridiculous. Did you want her to tell the truth in these interviews? Did you want her to say the UND program pissed her off so bad that she felt she had no other option but to leave? No - she cited her opportunity at MSU as a reason for leaving UND, and as a focal point in her interviews in order to save face for our WBB program (even though everyone knows the truth anyway). If she wanted to thump her chest, she could've talked about the multiple programs that were racing to the phones to invite her to their programs for one year - but she didn't do that either.

Give her some credit, folks. This could've gone down waaaay worse than it did.

Personally, I'd be pretty pissed if they got rid of reserved spots. I get the concern, but I drive 700 miles round trip for each game. It's pretty nice to know where we'll be. Also, there are people who started coming to games after coming and tailgating with us. People kind of stop by and visit every week once they figure out where everyone is.

Understand your point - I doubt they would ever get rid of reserved spots. I sure like knowing where I'll be on Saturday morning just like you.

I just wish everyone with a reserved spot used it, and used it for tailgating.

Well - at least they're talking about it. You need to start with the basics. I've said it ad nauseam - too many vacant spots and "reserved parking spots" that divide an otherwise solid core of tailgating groups. That affects atmosphere, which impacts participation, which relates to attendance.

Maybe if you aren't actually tailgating in your reserved spot for at least 50% of the games, you can go to the south end and start to work your way back to the north. May seem a little crass, I know. But over a lot of years, I've seen what tailgating has been and I know what it can be. We just keep getting in the way of our own common sense.

Quit looking for the magic tailgating solution, and start with the basics.

  5. I think Gwoz, at 62 years young, is going to have a tough time finding a long term gig in the NCAA. I think he still has the talent to win, but won't find a spot in the historically "big-name" hockey programs. Is he even actively seeking a job or is he just kind of fading into the sunset?

Anyway, it looks like UW did a nice job with the staff they are putting in place. That's one way to right the ship. And if I were a betting man, I'd bet they'll see some payoff right away. I'm not predicting UW in the FF next year, but I think they'll have double digit wins at least. :D

but I think Gersich looked good up on that line after Drake went out.  It's almost as if there was an extra level of effort on his part in order to play on par with Boeser and Schmaltz.

Yep - I agree. I thought he played well on that line. Not that I don't want DC back - just saying I think it'd be okay.

  7. Obviously, many have shared that there were "cumulative reasons" why he left, how he left, etc. That innuendo notwithstanding, I still don't anticipate a carrot being thrown his way at UND.

  8. Enlighten us please.  I wasn't at all happy how he left, when he left, what he left us with, and who he took with him.  Please tell my why, as a die hard Sioux football fan, I should not hold a grudge?

    This.

Maybe he bailed on us because of the "Fire the Coach" mentality that seems to be pervasive.  Fire Hak?  Just asking.

The "fire the coach mentality" that you mention is just message board BS. And if coaches' feelings are hurt by what they read on a fan board, then I think they're in the wrong line of work. I don't think UND has ever been very quick on the trigger when it comes to letting coaches go. IMO, I think we've held on to people a lot longer than other schools would have, and in a few cases, much longer than we ever should have.

  9. By administration, are you referring to the president or the a.d.? Because Dale left shortly after Buning was ousted. I think that's why some were pretty frustrated about the timing of his departure. By leaving when he did, it basically guaranteed Mussman was going to be his successor. It ended up being a bad deal for pretty much all involved. With that said, I have nothing but the utmost respect for him as a person and coach.

You correctly stated why I think Dale can go pack sand. He might be a UND guy at heart, and might be a nice guy (true from what I've seen and heard), but his personal actions set UND football back too many years for my liking - and he knew well what the results would be of those actions. That's not being a "UND guy" - that's being a "Dale Lennon guy".

We don't owe him a damned thing as far as I'm concerned. (yes - still a little pissed off - but that's on me)

    AD? Please.  :silly:

  10. We didn't play great, but UW isn't exactly a terrible team. At least not as terrible as Schloss' "What Happened to Wisconsin" article would lead everyone to believe.

A kick in the pants will help my favorite squad, but I never had any expectations of them blowing UW out of the building in the first place.

Hoping for a solid effort and a win tonight.

  11. I was at hockey last night as well....following FB via phone. Believe or not there are UND fans that are passionate for both sports.

Exactly. I really didn't know there was a "I like this UND sport but not that UND sport" contingent out there.

Frankly, I'm glad these people don't hang out with my crowd. We'd have to beat them to death with their own shoes.

  12. I understand the injury situation and limits on talent and recruiting that Bubba has - but - what we are seeing that passes for "Bubba Ball" is just crap.  At this time in his second year I at least expected an assignment sharp, mentally tough team that sometimes got beat on talent but didn't beat themselves and were tough to play against.  I don't expect to be out-adjusted every half time and to pee winnable games down our leg.  Missed blocks, poor execution - at some point that has to be on the coaches.  Not impressed so far.  Time for the team and coaches to figure it out.

    Exactly this.

Two eerily similar chokes in a row in winnable games is a scary trend, not to mention the impact on team support, attendance, etc.

This kind of sucks. Daybyday or not.
