  1. Grahamkracker,

So they've changed their minds due to pressure from activists like yourself. Now if UND just changes the name all Native problems will be solved. Thank God there are great individuals out there like yourself and the NC$$ fighting for the "REAL" problems facing Native people today. Hopefully you can get the State of North Dakota to change it's name also. That would be awesome, since this is another great problem that affects Native people on a day-to-day basis.

    Just go away. Bye Bye....

  2. I love how these activist love to take shots at an easy target instead of really tackling the *Real* issues affecting Native Americans today, like Alcoholism, povertry, obesity, diabetes, and lack of utilities on a lot of reservations.  How come they don't seem so fired up about those issues but have all the time in the world to attack team nicknames.  Even if UND goes back to the Flickertails or whatever, is it really going to change anything for Native Americans?  I like to see how thats possiable.  Besides, even if UND did change the name right now, their opponents will still likely chant things like "Sioux Suck" and other Native American referances for the next ten years.  ;)

I couldn't agree more with bigmrg. The only thing is that if we need to remove all Native references from UND, then we need to change the state name also. Since Dakota is a tribal name, then we need to be called the University of North Fighting or UNF. The states name would be changed to North. The town of Lakota would no longer have a name. Sioux City would need to be changed to City, the same with Sioux Falls. This would obviously solve all the problems that Native Americans are facing today.

I guess the good thing is that most Native Americans, including a few who are part of my family know that a nickname is the least of the problems facing today's tribes. Activists like "GrahamKrackhead" are a minority when it comes to speaking out about "causes".

  3. The WCHA most likely will be tougher next year than this past year (and we had 4 teams in the Frozen Four). I can see UND, UMN, DU, CC and Wisc. all ending up in the top spot. With the uncertainty at D for UND next year I think the Sioux will end up at the #3 spot, but that is a guess. It will be a tough league and UMD and AA should both also be in the running for a top 5 spot.

  4. I think the stigma of wearing a full shield mask in major and minor league hockey is such that players would be a target of other players for being different and could be in for more punishment along the boards, such as checking from behind.  There is even still a stigma for having half-shields, although not to the same degree as it was before.  It was more of a European thing in the past, but more and more players are starting to wise up.  You never see an enforcer wear a visor of any sort unless they are nursing an injury already.  Unless the leagues started to require them, many would shy away because they don't want to be perceived as soft.

I agree with tnt. Unless the league forces the change nothing is going to happen. Wouldn't it be easy to force all Rookies to wear at least partial masks and just Grandfather the rule in. In a couple of years you would at least have the half sheilds. I think it would be too much to go for the full sheilds off the start, even though that would be the best idea.

  5. As an alumni I think there needs to be one change. Kupchella needs to be removed from UND and sent to PCU (Politically Correct University). The guy is a joke and UND hasn't had a good President since Clifford.

I was at UND in the last 4 years of the old Englestad and the fans and students were able to do a lot more than the current student base and we never got complaints. The fans there were real hockey fans and it was good to go to games and not have to worry about what was going on. I remeber sitting by the opposing goaltenders for 2 periods a game just to heckle them.

Just leave the student body alone and let them enjoy college. There are a lot of things that can make your university look worse than people standing and doing some chears. See U of Colorado, since these are what real issues are.

Mark my words, if you remove the students or move them against their will I will not donate a dime back to UND. I think the current student body should do the same. The grey hairs that complain won't be around much longer and we are the future.

    Rant over.

  6. I am also pretty confident he will be back, but ask Gopher fans how "ready" Jake Taylor was. Not many people saw him leaving early.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It was a little different situation last year for Taylor. He was leaving to get a contract under the old bargaining agreement, I think. Wouldn't the Matt's have to sign a "player tryout" or something similar to that, since they wouldn't be able to sign players under the old agreement.

I may be wrong on this, since everything with the N(o)HL is messed up right now.

  7. It will be very tough if we lose Greene or Smaby. The boys will be slim/young at defense going into next season the way it is.

Greene played hurt, because he had to. I respect that a lot and hopefully I'll see him in the Kelly Green next year.

  8. They just spoke about each team has stickers on their helmets, Bemidji has an RL for the school shootings in Red Lake and Denver has a 28 in white, green and black for Robbie Bina.  Then they talked briefly about Robbie.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It makes me mad that they are now wearing a sticker for Robbie, when it was a cheap shot by there player that caused the injury. DU should have suspended Paukovich, if they wanted to show class. :)

    GO BEAVERS.
