  1. I will never regret spending money on a Holy Cross jerseys for three reasons. 1) It's a piece of history. THE biggest college hockey lose in NC$$ history, 2) dancing around the Xcel concourse with the UMtc band during the F5 wearing a Holy Cross jersey, and 3) taking this picture in the middle of Goofyland with NO ONE taking issue with our taking many pictures of Goldie wearing the jersey of his new favorite team. :D

It sounds like Goofy fans really don't care anymore. :)

  2. I think the reason the defeat of the Goofs by Holy Cross was that it was so funny to a lot of Sioux fans is that the Goofs lost to the AHA champion Holy Cross was that the Gophers fans were in everyone's faces talking how they were going to breeze through the regional Marriucci west was what REA was being referred to. I also remember being told that there was no chance that Holy Cross beats the Gophers as well. I think another reason it was SOOOOO funny was that we had so much about back to back and frankly their fans grated on us.

Like I have mentioned before I had some Skippy come up to me while I was at a urinal (Gopher fans are famous for confronting you at the URINAL) and tell me that our team would have lost to the Gophers. I told the guy Skippy your team is on the bus home already. His reply was but we would have won...

I have fans from wcha teams confront me at the urinal all the time. Sounds like you handled that a**hat well.

  3. I think people (especially Sioux fans) are buying into the Holy Cross thing as a symbol of the Holy Cross team (a non-glorified college hockey team) working VERY hard to win a VERY important game. I think we would have glorified them no matter who they beat, it's just that it happened to be the Gophers in our regional that night.

It is apples and oranges to compare Holy Cross to BC, as BC IS a well-respected college hockey team that makes it to the NCAA tournament a lot. It's not as big of a deal to lose to them as they seem to play us a lot.

The only similarity between the two schools are the "priviledged" students and alumni who truly believe they are the best of the best in the country. I have two good friends who attend BC and they feel the same way I do in regards to the attitudes of people who go to school there. They truly believe they are better than others simply because they attend a historic private school. The same goes for Holy Cross, only worse. This is why I could never understand the Holy Cross fascination. It is a school that is the complete opposite of UND, and one whose students probably have a very low opinion of society in the Upper Mid-West. If one thinks that people in the Minneapolis area have the misinformed view of Grand forks being hickville, just think what people who pay $32,000+ a year to attend Holy Cross think of the area. Of course, this is a completely stereotypical analysis, and I'm sure there are many people who don't fit this description at both schools.

  4. Will he pick up a new ride before leaving Grand Forks with his signing bonus or will he wait until he gets situated in St. Louis or Peoria (I think that's StL's AHL affiliate)?

Damn... You all (especially Gopher fans) think Grand Forks is pretty much a Luddite community... go to Peoria. The way I've heard it described is this: In Illinois you have Northern Illinois down to Chicago. Then you have St. Louis in Missouri to the south. In between St. Louis and Chicago is Arkansas. :D

And, trust me.. Peoria is another world.

They don't sell Mercedes-Benz in the middle of nowhere so yes, he will be waiting until he gets to St.Louis.

  5. If you had only lost to them once it wouldn't be funny. But three years in a row IS hilarious. In fact I bet a Sioux fan right now gets much more upset when hearing the words Boston College than a Gopher fan does when hearing Holy Cross.

And the fact that the last one made it look like it was the Montreal Canadiens playing Thief River Falls High School.

  6. Maybe, for the Sioux; If everyone comes back. But if the sioux lose Oshie, Chorney, Duncan, and Finley, they'll finish in the bottom half. Guess we'll see....

I think the gophers would be more deserving of a top 10 spot over the sioux.

They'll be plenty of movement on this list before the end of August I suspect.

  7. WOW! Write them a check? Didn't someone do that already? Maybe 160 million isn't enough huh?:D?:0

... the old ralph didn't have big giant video screens and a 360 degree electric add machine and I didn't see them in the food lines at the welfare office. Also, students got in for free! and G. Adm. Tickets were 10 bucks! and it was less than 6,000 seats not over 11,000.

Anyone who buys the rational that this is something fans should ACCEPT because it is just business is weak in the mind. Oh and buy the way, that type of attitude is exactly how they get away with it!

...and a Hershey bar used to be a nickel. :glare:

  8. Well, one thing is certain: MSP will NOT be on the list.

Nor will GF. High school sports and NCAA hockey are pretty much as low on the national radar as you can get. There is no way this is going to a town that doesn't have a professional team competing in a prime time league, i.e NHL, NFL, MLB. Not saying a town has to have a pro team to be a "titletown", but the national audience is pretty short sighted--they measure success in Superbowls and and World Series.

  9. who cares who won titles more recently, u rode North Dakota boys, I know it hurts but it's true, und had 7 when you had 3. You won 2 in '02 and '03 was it? You guys haven't made it back since, but you did make history losing to holy cross, which I do appreciate it happening at the ralph. Now we have made it to the FF but haven't won, we still have more titles and a better tradition.

Now go ahead and have your turn, and we can be done with the usual Gopher/UND bashing portion of this thread.

Didn't UM have frozen four appearances in '02, '03,'04, and '05, much like the Sioux the past 4 years. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  10. To signify team unity, will Jeff Frazee be sporting one?

Wouldn't it be a bigger rip on Gopher fans to go after the starting goalie, rather than the one that has been and will continue to ride the pines?

  11. CORRECTION, it is called the Tombstone WCHZ Final Five Tournament - since I had the poster HANDED to me will a smile and a laugh... I have never called it by the old name. The Xcel and WCHA knew when they handed the posters out - what was on them!! - A unprofessional acts by the athletic conference and hosting venue. How they still get to host this evemt is beyond me - well, I know why $$$$$$$...

:D Would it make you feel better if they have the people this year handing out the posters wearing Holy Cross jerseys with blond permed hair and manicures, because I'm sure 2 years from now Gopher fans won't be pissed off about that anymore but you will still be crying about the misprinted poster.

  12. It's the coaches that vote on the game times (afternoon vs night) correct?

I believe so, and they all know that putting the Gophers in the Friday night game is good for business just the same as if the tourney was in Grand Forks and the Sioux were in the night game. Each program gets a cut of the profits, so the coaches obviously want to see the most ideal combination of teams on Friday.

  13. Funny thing is that I am not going to be shed one tear for the golden chokers. :D:D:D

I think you have to actually be in a position to go far in the Tourney to be called a choker...can't say Minnesota has ever been in that situation this year.
