  1. Zach Parise has some great things to say about his time at UND in an article published in the Minot Daily News.

Another draw for Parise was his ties to North Dakota, stemming from his time playing for UND. A time that he admitted to enjoying almost more than being drafting [sic] and playing in the NHL.

"I loved it, it was awesome," he said of playing for the Sioux. "I sometimes wish I would have stayed there for a little longer. I really enjoyed playing up there."

  2. Anybody have any word on why Tampa Bay still drafted him after the news of his heart condition came out?

From a Tampa Bay Lightning Blog

With its final pick, 203rd overall, Tampa Bay took defenseman David Carle. An interesting choice since Carle, the brother of San Joses's Matt Carle, withdrew from the draft after being diagnosed with a heart condition. But general manager Jay Feaster said prospective new owner Oren Koules knows the family and the diagnosis might not be as severe as first believed. Besides Koules said, "The kid worked his whole life to be drafted in the NHL, and I don't see a reason he shouldn't be."
  3. Kind of surprised Carle, Roe, and Condon went so low. I would have thought they'd go higher than they did.

Did you not hear about David Carle? Here's the story. So sad.

EDIT: Nice gesture by the Tampa Bay Lightning. :silly:

  4. Does anyone besides me think that it is strange that Danny Kristo is not coming in this year? if he is a second round pick he must have enough talent to not have to wait a year. Or am I wrong and he is coming in?:silly:

During his draft interview when asked about where his development was headed, I swear Kristo stated that he had one more year of high school left. He did sound really anxious to get to UND though.

  5. That is a cool pic. do u have a copy that is large enough for a wallpaper??

Unfortunately, I do not. It was inspired by a photo of Sidney Crosby. I tried to find a larger version of it but didn't have any luck.

  6. What an excellent season! It was a pleasure watching the boys play in the Frozen Four again.

On Friday night a friend and I walked along the 16th Street Mall. We stopped in a local sports store so my friend could buy a Notre Dame shirt to wear to Saturday's game. We started talking with the owner about the Frozen Four and the Sioux's loss. He was amazed by how many Sioux fans were in town and said that we traveled really well. He had a great amount of respect for the Sioux and their fans.

The turnout was amazing! I'm sure the team appreciated the support a lot more than we will ever know. Keep up the good work Sioux fans! :D

  7. UPDATE: I bought a ticket package from a very generous SiouxSports member.

    Hello!

I am looking for two Frozen Four tickets. A friend and I were hoping to get SiouxCrew tickets this morning but it sounds like all 75 of them are already spoken for. We can't afford to pay much more than face value for them.

*We will also settle for two single tickets*

Send me a PM if you have tickets or know of anyone who might have two tickets available.

    Thank You!

  8. Im just curious how they prevent minors from drinking on the bus with the keg on there?

I honestly don't know. I'm pretty sure everyone on the bus last year was of legal drinking age. You would have to ask Al. For the most part everyone handled their alcohol well. There were a few college students that got a little too rowdy, but that was about it.

  9. does that al pearson allow refreshments on the bus?

There will more than likely be a keg on each of the buses. Last year some fans also brought along Jack Daniels and passed around jello shots.

  10. The Blue Moose, Applebee's and Whitey's will NOT have Sunday's games. Called them to today. The manager at Applebee's thought that the GF one would have it.

I spoke with one of the managers at the Grand Forks Applebee's yesterday afternoon, and they will NOT have Sunday's games. While they do have DirecTV, they ultimately had to choose between having ESPNU or FSSN for the year.

  11. FSN asked fans to vote for who they thought was the Best Goalie, Bachman or Kangas. I sent a text voting for Bachman. I soon received a reply that said, "Wrong". LOL! The first thing I thought was, Dubay must be counting the votes. Haha.

I then decided to vote for Kangas to see what kind of reply I would get. It was the same, "Wrong". I guess JPL is counting the votes! :glare:

  12. Anyone know if selectio sunday is gunna be on tv again on espn2? I wanna see big bob norton pick all east teams to win and an east goalie hobey baker again. Hes a better laugh then my boy coming home drunk.

It is currently scheduled to air March 23 at 11:30 AM EST on ESPN2.

  13. My two cents:

I think "Goon Platoon" would work well. The T-shirts could feature an army helmet and/or dog tags. IMHO the army theme works well because Sioux teams are often seen as a band of brothers. It also plays into the "Fighting" part of our nickname and symbolizes determination, teamwork and pride. All for one and one for all!

  14. My friend and I got back into town last night at around 3 AM. It was our first Sioux/Gopher series in Minneapolis and we had a great time! We didn't have tickets for Saturday's game but after speaking with a few of the locals we decided to stick around and try to get tickets. We walked up to the box office at Mariucci Arena at 4:30 and got two seats on CENTER ICE two rows behind the player's boxes! And for only $30 a piece! We could not believe our luck. Needless to say, the seats were amazing! :D

Friday nights game was intense. During the last ten minutes and overtime my heart was racing at a mile a minute. Trupp's game-winner was a thing of beauty! Saturday's game was highly entertaining. It was a bummer to see Duncan get ejected so early and some of the Gopher fans sitting around us were kind of bummed as well---if you can believe that. The guy sitting in front of me stated that he really loves watching Duncan play (I thought we dominated that 5 minutes). Our powerplay this whole weekend was disappointing. The fact that we play much better on the PK is baffling to me---not that having a a solid PK is a bad thing. I just wish we could have generated something on our 12 powerplays. I was not surprised by the physical play on both ends. I was actually surprised a lot of that stuff didn't happen sooner. The players were jawing at each other from the benches all night. I couldn't see what happend but durimg the second period I looked over at the Gopher bench and Don Lucia was throwing an absolute fit. He was screaming at the refs and flailing his arms in the air like a madman. There really was a lot of emotion on both sides of the benches. Some of the expressions were priceless! At the end of the game there were two guys seating near me that seriously needed to take some chill pills. One of the guys stood up, put his hand on the glass and started screaming at Hakstol. He was so angry his hands were shaking! I seriously thought he was going to crawl over the glass and attack Hakstol.

Overall it was a fantastic weekend of hockey! The majority of Gopher fans we encountered were rather civil and very complimentary of the Sioux and their fanbase. Thank you to whomever it was that suggested going to Sally's pre-game. They had great food and a great atmosphere!

It's going to be a long two weeks!

  15. A friend and I will be attending our first Sioux/Gopher game at Mariucci Arena. I've been wanting to attend at Sioux game at Mariucci for 5 years! This year I was finally able to score a couple tickets for the Friday game. We booked a room at the Day's Inn near the arena. Any advice you could offer would be fantastic (ie: parking, restaurants, shuttle service). Also, we have SRO tickets. Unfortunately we are both vertically challenged. LOL! Will we have a hard time seeing the ice? How early should we get to the arena to ensure that we get a good spot? I apologize for all the questions. I just want to ensure that we are prepared when we walk into Gopherville.
