Keep the TP and sign handy. There's always Saturday night. And, by the way, Brian Canady played on a line with Fylling and Genoway. I thought they looked pretty good, but I didn't see that line out much in the 3rd period. Imagine that. Fylling, one of the team's leading scorers, on the fourth line.

Maybe you could also give Finger some instructions on how to get out of the penalty box. I'm thinking of a simple diagram with a red "You are here" X, an arrow pointing at the penalty box gate and a sentence or two on how to operate the gate.

While I don't know anything about Canady's status, I wouldn't take the lines posted on USCHO as gospel. I'll see if I can find out anything about Brian at the game tonight.

Thanks for the update, kr. Actually, I'm more worried about the Sioux penalty kill than I am about the power play, especially against SCSU. In the Mankato series, it looked like everyone was backing in and doing very little to pressure the point men at the blue line. That makes it easy for the opposing team's power play to set up and start moving the puck around. I also wonder if this tendency to back in is why the Sioux haven't scored a shorthanded goal in some time after getting off to a great start early in the season.

Now that Ralph Engelstad is gone, more stories about his life are beginning to emerge. Here are two columns from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, one by John L. Smith and the other by Norm Clarke.

I remember reading something about this in the Herald, but it doesn't appear that it ever happened. I do think a goalie coach wouldn't be a bad idea, however.

One thing I've notice in the games I attend is how much hooking goes on, especially when there's a player behind the player with the puck. Here's what the NCAA rule book says:

I am not saying Blais will bring in another goalie, only that he said before the season started that he wouldn't rule out the possibility. I would think that given the team's success thus far, he wouldn't be considering it. Futhermore, I have not heard him or anyone else even suggest it.

I can tell you that back in late September before the season started, Blais told me that he would consider bringing in another goalie mid-way thorugh the season if he didn't think the goalies they had were getting it done. Therefore, there is reason to speculate about whether he is considering this move. The question is whether he is happy with the goalies to this point. I think Speez's point about the possibility of ruining team chemistry is a good one.

Some players enjoy talking to the media. Some don't like it, but do it. Others don't like it and won't do it. You can't make anyone talk to the media who doesn't want to. I have no problem with players who choose not to.

According to Blais, Brandt expressed his true feelings about the AR calling the too many men on the ice penalty with less than a minute left.

The delayed shutter response is still a problem on the CoolPix 995, although I can't compare it to anything else because it's the only digital camera I've used to any extent. But I do know that compared to my Nikon 35mm SLR, I have to be much, much better at anticipating the play. I'm actually surprised that I've been able to get some of the shots I have. The nice thing about digital photography is that you can shoot lots of lousy photos, delete the bad ones and hang on to the good stuff. For every good photo you see here, there are five or six terrible ones.
