  1. I looked to see how SCSU did today and discovered that they played on Thursday...

    10 SCSU

    13 Augustana

    FINAL-OT

Are you going to the game next week?

I will be there. I hope the Sioux fans aren't as "intense" as they were when we were both in the NCC.

  2. Do you think the Sioux will keep St.Cloud State on their schedule in the future as an early non conference game after

    2008?

I certainly hope not. I don't know why we are playing UND in the first place. I guess we are honoring a commitment.

  3. I was not tolerated, from what I understand. I was investigated and due process was accorded. I would not be surprised if the anti-name crowd itself is behind the swastikas being put up around campus. They obviously would have taken the idea from SCSU. I wonder where the cries of institutional racism were when the swastikas were being put up all over SCSU.

Everybody knew it was either some local or a student being stupid. The swastikas were in random bathrooms and hallways. Not in the Jewish Center or on the door of a Jewish student. You can thank the Twin Cities media for that story.

  4. It sounds much better when spoken from that perspective. :D

SCSU Athletics: Takin' what they can get for the past 20+ years.

And that makes it sound so much worse.

At least we have the balls to play you guys in football. Glad we could help old UND out.

  5. You will never convince me that the WCHA Final 5 is meaningful unless it is for momentum for the NCAA tourney. Only SCSU would hang a banner for winning the Final 5.

It's the only thing we've won in 20 years. I think it deserves a banner.

  6. Every SCSU player and fan went into this game thinking it would be a cakewalk. I thought that we would dominate if we got a few powerplays. UM is still high from the MSU series, and they were also playing for their friend Tom Pohl. (bless him)

SCSU's preformance was an embarrassment. But what do we expect? It's par for the course come tourney time. :)

  7. Is this old news? This was in the St Cloud paper today.

St. Cloud could be out of the running for the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-18 Championship if a site is awarded during a USA Hockey news conference scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fargo, N.D.

According to USA Hockey media and public relations director Dave Fischer, a “major announcement” will be made at Scheels sporting goods store in Fargo. USA Hockey Executive Director Dave Ogrean will be on hand with several dignitaries. The others will be North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven, Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker, the general manager of the Urban Plains Center, Lance Johnson, and Dean Blais, general manager and head coach of the Fargo Force, a USHL expansion team that will call the arena home beginning next fall.

“This is the first I’ve heard about it,” said Kelly Karras, sales manager for the St. Cloud Convention & Visitors Bureau and director of an 11-member committee trying to land the Under-18 tournament for the National Hockey Center. “I know Fargo has been bidding on a few other things, but this sure makes it look like (they’re getting the tournament).”

St. Cloud and Providence, R.I., are the finalists with Fargo in competition for the Under-18 tournament.

Fargo’s application is centered on a new rink being built for the USHL franchise. While it’s under construction, the $44 million Urban Plains Center in South Fargo is expected to be complete by next fall and include five arenas, 37 locker rooms, 40 luxury suites, 300 club seats and a capacity of about 5,000 for hockey.

Providence already has the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, a facility that seats 11,000 fans for hockey and is home to the Providence Bruins of the AHL and the Providence Friars of Hockey East. It was purchased two years ago from the City of Providence by the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority for $28.5 million and will have undergone a $62 million renovation by next fall.

By comparison, the Hockey Center has only been cosmetically changed since opening in 1989 at a cost of $9 million. SCSU has been lobbying for state money to help fund a renovation, which would cost about $12 million to $13 million, but those efforts have stalled the past two years. While officials remain hopeful it will happen soon, there’s no guarantee they’ll get approval in time to impact the Under-18 tournament.

  8. Only if what happened fit in the egenda of the media, and the media has no interest in making people who protest said "racism" look bad even though in many cases the people protesting racism are objectively and rationally the racists themselves.

Anyone who thinks the media is objective is ignorant. Thing is most people are ignorant.

In a small town, it's news. I just don't believe it happened.

  9. They can't say Sioux, but I am sure they all went to there "Third Reich" party following the game. THat is such a joke. I am wondering if anyone had any problems with the protesters outside. A few years ago I saw a SCSU student call a 60 year old lady a racist and push her to the ground for having a Sioux jersey on. Want to talk about someone who needs an ass kicking.

Whatever. Do you know how fast that would have hit the news down here? I bet it was Saigo too.

  10. Randy Hedberg's recent problems (effectively relieved as head coach) at SCSU make me wonder if they are associated in some way ....

    Is Mike Mannausau (sp) ready?

I can assure you that Hedberg's "reasignment" at SCSU has nothing to do with Lennon's decision to leave UND.

  11. Interesting. I was fully expecting a Minnesota-type nickname ban out of St. Cloud. But maybe things will be better with Saigo gone.

Guess again...This is from the St Cloud Times SCSU Blog. It never ends! I can't believe the entire state system is looking at a "policy" on UND. You know what that means...

A reader question from a couple of posts ago:

With UND going to the next level will SCSU still play them? Or will they develop a similar policy against UND? Or would the policy be a Minnesota State College & University policy? -- Madness from March

I talked with director of athletics Morris Kurtz a few minutes ago to get an answer. "We don't have a policy," he said, "but we suspect MnSCU will be working on a policy, and then we'll go from there."

  12. No, I haven't seen a worse offense from SCSU, or possibly even from any other NCC team in a long, long time. Unfortunately for the Huskies, even their defense looked hopelessly overmatched today, although they've had some nice performances this year. At least your punter was good. :D

:D so its not as bad as it seems

  13. Its great to see that SCSU is playing UND in football next season. Although it will hurt them in the end more than it will help them it just goes to show the type of person that Coach Hedberg is, in possibly helping out a University that helped him get to where he is now career wise. Thanks coach!

Reading the GF herald today it sounds like SCSU is more banged up than the Sioux. No wide receivers, back up QB's......and their defense is on the field a lot. No excuse to lose this game...whatsoever.

I was more than a little surprised that SCSU was willing to play UND next year. I remember NCC teams backing out of games with NDSU when they moved to DI. Hedberg is a class guy and runs a class program. I think there is allot of respect from SCSU towards UND. I think SCSU programs look at UND as a model for DII sports.

  14. Hammersmith, I think you posted the admissions for Fall 2006. Anyway, I have to agree that the flip flop of the number of applicants is interesting. UND is still more selective. And the percentage that enrolled tells me that UND was not a "back-up" choice. I wonder if we will see that number change (less selective)

    http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cool/screen.aspx?screenId=10

    UND

    Number of applicants 3,698

    Percent admitted 73.7%

    Percent admitted who enrolled

    Full-time 69.0% Part-time 0.8%

    NDSU

    Number of applicants 3,959

    Percent admitted 89.0%

    Percent admitted who enrolled

    Full-time 56.8% Part-time 2.0%

  15. Interesting. Of course, that's 2004 data. Let's look at 2005.

NDSU's acceptance rate was 89.0% with 3959 applying and 3524 being accepted.

UND's acceptance rate was 73.7% with 3698 applying and 2725 being accepted.

Makes me wonder what the 2006 and 2007 data looks like. BTW, take a look and the huge flip in where students were applying.

ahhh...i missed that this was from 2004

  16. Minnesota fans claim to be the class of the WCHA. Here is some video what I have been saying for a long time. Some friendly jabs are a norm for visitors, but being physical is ridiculous! Maybe these videos have been around for a while, but they are new to me. Here is some video of the UM/MTU game.
