  1. It's definitely a better conference, it's unfortunate that it won't get as much media opportunities as the Big 10 and Hockey East.

    Even with ND, the NCHC wouldn't even come close to the media coverage for the BTHC or HE. This is a media no-man's land compared to those markets. Lol @ the "big TV money" for the NCHC.

    UND should have stayed in the WCHA. (they see that now) But their insane jealousy of Minnesota's move to the premiere hockey conference in the country, enticed UND to want something (possibly) better. UND has created quite a mess. Did you people really think that UND and the NCHC had the wherewithal to grab ND? Most people knew better...

  2. What was UND men's hockey? Women's sports are expected to be in the red in just about every sport (with exception in some cases to basketball).

    Women's hockey is a huge money loser...they lose more than many DIII, DII, and FCS football programs.
  3. A.) Financially they're on the ropes, year-in and year-out.

    SCSU hockey is always profitable. Never been an issue.

    B.) No strong alumni support, financially or otherwise (nexus to point A above);

    Athletic support is strong...the foundation support needs work.

    C.) Talked out of both sides of its mouth - "we wouldn't want to be a part of the NCHC, even if asked" vs. "Thanks! Where to we sign?";

    It's business. But the new conference shouldn't have been created in the first place.

    D.) A campus environment that really and truly is racist (see neo-nazi groups/signs, etc.);

    Idiotic point! The "Swastika Bandit" was some kid in the dorms who played a prank. What's that saying about glass houses and throwing stones? Don't deflect UND's issues on to other schools. BTW, sit by your student body at a football game...it will be an eye opener for you.

    E.) Academic standards are about 5 notches below UND, DU, CC, etc.

    Untrue. I'll give you 1 notch

    F.) Commitment to funding hockey in the future tied to state budgetary in-fighting rather than alumni support. Because of its weak alumni support, SCSU is much more dependent on state funding than other schools, even other state schools like here in Mankato.

    Untrue.

    G.) History of members of student body being arrested in droves -- see October, 1986, among other dates.

    Untrue. It was 1988 and I was there...only a handful of students were arrested. What a stretch! :lol:

    You are a desperate liar with Saigo-itis. Give it up kiddo.

  4. UND, DU, Miami, WMU.......St Cloud, now can you tell me which one of these institutions is seriously out of place. It's bad enough your crap school made the cut into the NCHC but must you troll our boards?

    Subjective magazine ranking are irrelevant. Academically speaking, the NCHC is not the Big Ten or even the old CCHA. School rankings had anything to do with the creation of the NCHC. Look, UND is a good school. But ND would not go out of their way to be associated with UND, SCSU, UMD, UNO, DU, CC, MU, or WMU. The new conference is (and should be) about increasing revenue. Even in the world of BCS football, a school's subjective USNWR ranking is only a talking point. Revenue potential trumps all other criteria.

    The NCHC must get teams with the greatest number of televisions in a given market. The only program that has good access to the Twin Cities Metro is SCSU. I'm not referring to the number of fans, (of which there are many) but the number of cable subscribers. It doesn't matter if they watch the games or not.

  5. I'm delusional? There are 4,352 institutions of higher education in the US, DU is ranked 82, Miami is 90, UND is 164, and WMU is 181. Colorado College is ranked fairly high as a liberal arts college and UNO at least has a desirable media market. St. Cloud is the school bringing nothing to the table. You're right that the Big 10 is a better fit for them academically than the NCHC, but that is not an option unless they are willing to join for all sports and that is extremely unlikely.

    You people are comical. UND, UNO, UMD, Miami,.......Notre Dame...ok :silly: You should be slightly embarrassed.

  6. Wrong, Notre Dame, UND, Denver, WMU, and Miami are all tier one universities with an emphasis on research and academic excellence. This why everyone is perplexed as to why St. Cloud got an invite.

    Wait a minute! Notre Dame is the 19th ranked university in the country. Sorry, but you are delusional about the station of NCHC schools. ND has more in common with the CCHA (Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio State) than the NCHC.

  7. Also can't see Notre Dame joining a league with St Cloud St, although stranger things have happened. (UMass-Lowell is probably close to being a St Cloud academically, but BC, BU, Providence, and even Merrimack have much more affinity to the Irish brand.)

    Don't get it twisted. Notre Dame's brand and portfolio is far beyond ANY of the NCHC schools. The only thing UND has in common with ND is they both have good hockey programs.

  8. Since the rumors started swirling around that SCSU would be joining the NCHC, I have been waiting for them to pull a UNO and drop football, put that money towards hockey and announce they are moving the rest of their sports to the Summit League.

    DI basketball without football??? Bring it on!

  9. I think the point being made about brand is we aren't going to compete with their brand recognition and TV audience with moves like this. SCSU isn't going to capture much of an audience and that doesn't help us.

    The NCHC wouldn't compete with B1G name recognition no matter who was in the conference. BGSU or Bemidji would have really captured a large audience laugh.gif

  10. I agree 100%. SCSU fits the NCHC like a glove. They're a solid program with a good fan base and an upgraded arena. Im very surprised at Sioux fans reactions to this.

    You're not going to see many rational comments because they hate SCSU for many reasons. But there are some hospitable UND fans (just not that many)

    Anyway, this will be a good league on the ice, but the league office is out of their minds if they think the NCHC can compete with Big Ten branding.

  11. Hockey is an expensive sport. Those who were thinking that Bowling Green would be a good addition are flatly wrong and not paying attention to the economics.

    Miami will have a hard time hanging in there on the travel, as will WMU. Those who were thinking that this conference would match its rather stupid name and go "National" now have their answer. There are, save for the Alaska schools who may soon turn to dust in the wind, few schools, if any, that can sustain travel budgets outside of their regional play on a consistent basis.

    College hockey will never be a national sport. If the NHL cannot do it, college programs across the land already working on thinning dimes will not do it.

    I said it before and I will say it again. This move will not pan out to be a good move for the overall health of the game that we love. The Pig Ten started it. We followed. Now watch some programs wither rather than to see the landscape grow.

    Right on!

  12. That's twice now Brian Faison has had Sioux fans feeling thrilled with new conferences, only to have it tempered after the initial conceptions are not completely what they were supposed to be. With the Big Sky we needed a conference any which way, but after that blindside, you would have thought they would get their ducks in a row ahead of time instead of having to backtrack embarrassingly. And if it isn't backtracking, why wasn't St. Cloud invited the first time around? Totally agree, much spin to come.

    The NCHC had to have a " no Notre Dame contingency plan".

  13. That's the spirit, think small. With the right marketing behind it I believe college hockey could be a very viable sport for certain regions in the US and Canada. I thought that's what the NCHC was trying to do, to increase the visibility of the sport through new marketing techniques.

    I would like to hear some objectivity in regards to TV revenue. It's all speculative at this point. I agree...people shouldn't think small. If you people could read these posts through the eyes of an outsider you'd be dubious too.

    If this conference was formed to generate TV revenue, there's no other school in the state of Minnesota that makes more sense than SCSU. I think the NCHC officials are thinking with their pocketbooks and some (very vocal) UND fans are being irrational. I've said it before, I am against SCSU joining the NCHC. I apologize for being a smart ***.
