  1. Like Bincitysioux has mentioned many times, why can't UND and NDSU get something put together in basketball and some of the non-revenue sports? The longer that goes on the more ridiculous it looks for both schools. Roper1313 brings up a good question on whether there are any rivalry games that are annual and non-conference. Looks like UC-Davis and Sacramento State have kept going. http://www.petespoll.com/trophies.shtml

Talylor told a group that I was with that we'll start seeing UND-NDSU games in sports besides football starting next year. I haven't seen any schedules to confirm it, but that's what he said.

  2. THis is not true, as has been stated there is plenty of room in the schedule of the MVC......example UNI: plays either Iowa or ISU every other year because of In-State rivalries....

True, but Iowa and Iowa State don't need a money game like both UND and NDSU do. As a few posters have stated the MVC schedule allows for 3 NC games. 1 will always be a BCS game ($300-$500K in the bank) a second will be a "cupcake" FCS game, and the third will be either a home or away game against a good FCS team. Could that FCS team be UND? Yes, but I don't think it will happen every year.

I'd like to see if there are any rivalry games between FCS teams that happen every year, but they are NOT in the same confrence.

  3. Sure no one likes cupcakes, but in what I hope will be typical years for both UND and NDSU they will need a cupcake to get that extra win on the way to the 7 or 8 that are usually required for the playoffs. I think the only way this happens every year is if they both are in the same confrence, with NDSU having a home and home with Montana set up and a home game with Montana State, I don't see it starting untill 2015. I'd much rather see it before then, but I don't think its going to happen.

  4. Great idea Sicatoka!!

Don't compare UND to UMD. UMD's stadium is close to filled with 5,000. Plus, football tradition goes back to about 2008 for UMD. UND's not the only one struggling with student attandance. NDSU had great student crowds for the first two games, but was about 1/2 full for the UNI game, and that's only going to get worse for Youngstown and Indiana State.

  5. IF uno joins the wcha, and IF blais is their new head coach... don't think und, um, uw or the other big dogs wouldn't lose some top recruits. one thing blais could do is recruit... even to omaha.

Omaha would be easier to recruit to than most other WCHA teams. Great sports town, great facility, and nice urban area. If UNO joined the WCHA with Blais at the helm then you add best competition, and great coach to the mix then you have a slam dunk for some "blue chippahs".

  6. I saw that, it kinda makes me want to find a video of the scrum to see what went on besides that. Also, what equipment it was.

Reading the comments it sounds like JP took exception to being run and threw the players stick into the crowd. Would be funny to watch.

  7. Another weak goal in the playoffs.. this time it helped the Caps beat the Penguins in OT. Seriously... FLeury's wanting to be flashy cost the Pens the game.

Are you talking about the game winner?? Fleury had no chance on that tip. I'm always amazed how great nhl forwards hands are. They routinely pick pucks out of mid air. Not a easy thing to do.

  8. Just made it back from the Equipment sale. I didn't go too crazy, but it was hard not to with what the prices were at.

    I bought:

-about 20 random patches/numbers (about a dozen frozen four patches, some UND125 patches, and 3's and 7's)

    -blue Bauer practice jersey

    -nike bauer sandals

    -Taylor Chorney stick

    This is what they had

Practice jerseys --- $20 to $30 depending on condition (some very new, some more used)

    Nike Dri-Fit under shirts --- $20 (new)

NEW Shoulder Pads by both RBK and Nike ---$10 (sounds like a steal, but I was dumb enough not to buy any)

Used sticks --- $20 (Lots of Kozek among a few others)

New and used socks --- $2 a pair

Used Gloves ---- I want to say $10/pair, but not sure (maybe $5?)

    Used Helmets w/ cages --- $20

Assorted Patches (includes nameplates, large and small jersey numbers, Frozen Four, UND125) --- All were $1 each

Breezers --- Used were $10 I think, new were $50

I think that's everything.... All the good stuff went pretty quick.

Those are some rediculous prices, I'm jealous. Just a quick question. Were any on the Kozek sticks in one piece?? ???

  9. Just back to the Blais topic. THe Force start their championship serise against Cichy's Indiana Ice this weekend. First two games are in Indiana on Friday and Saturday. Games 3 and 4 (if necessary) are at the UP Center Wednesday and Friday @ 7:05. Game 5 will be played in Indiana on Sunday if required.

Hopefully they can sell our the UP Center for the game on Wednesday. 4600 last weekend, hopefully they can sell those last 400 seats. Sounds like Indiana likes to play an uptempo game, just like the Force so this should be a great series.

  10. With a UNO/BSU combo as the 11th and 12th team the WCHA could look at changing the "rivalry" pairings. Here's how I see it:

UMinn and UWisc- Can't switch them up. The two Big 10 teams stick together. I'd love to see UND here, but it's not happening.

MSUM and UNO- The battle of the Maverics. They are both old NCC rivals geographically the nearest schools.

    DU and CC- Duh

Anchorage and MTU- No one wants to be eithers rival so it only makes sense. :)

These next 4 can be swapped any way:

UMD and St. Cloud- I know when I was at UMD in the mid-90's we hated St. Cloud. St. Clown fans actually went through one of the dorm parking lots and flipped a car over. Now that's a rivalry!! ???

UND and BSU- I think with the new facility BSU will turn into a consistenly good program. If BSU beats UND in the new arena Beaver fans will probably burn down the town. If we can't have the Gophers, I'd perfer to have the Beavers. Plus students just have too much fun with the Beaver nickname. :D

This topic is a great offseason time killer.

  11. Isn't there a significant fee just for the application? If so, it makes no sense to apply without some type of assurance the application will be accepted.

UBC is still out there, awaiting decisions this summer from the CIS on dual membership and from the NCAA on requiring American academic credentials. A UBC / Bemidji combo probably would get more support than an Omaha/Bemidji one, although both would get enough votes. NMU/Bemidji or MSU-M/Bemidji combos would not get enough support.

MSU-Moorhead's best bet at a conference may be if the CCHA loses a team like Bowling Green or W Mich [which like BGU hasn't been investing much in hockey and has IA football and a declining Michigan economy to deal with], assuming UNO leaves and UAH is admitted. Even then, Niagara, Mercyhurst or Robert Morris might get more interest from the CCHA. If a BTHC ever formed, there would be much more opportunity. MSU-Moorhead

Just curious as to why you think UBC/Bemidji combo would receive more support than the UNO/Bemidji? It's another flight for every school and I don't see schools looking forward to adding that cost. I'll admit that I don't know a lot about UBC, but I'm interested in hearing your reasoning.

  12. my favorites, i go to ucla games just for that purpose when they are in town in any sport that they bring cheerleaders :)

or i can grab a few down in tempe :)

    asu%20girls.jpg

just quote me like the ASHER ROTH and ill say I LOVE COLLEGE (aka-ASU), think its time to go back :D

    asu.jpgASU1.jpg

I can't believe you forgot USC!! IMO, the class of the PAC 10.

    usc_trojans.jpg

Why do I want to be a "Trojan Man"!! ???

Sorry this topic may be headed in the gutter.

  13. Just wanted to comment on Omaha. Omaha has publically stated that they are happy in the CCHA, but I think that is just to appease the CCHA. Currenlty UNO is way out of the CCHA's geographic footprint. If Omaha was in the WCHA they'd have bus trips for just about every opponent except Anchorage, and Tech. Now Denver and CC could bus to a couple of games a year probably saving $50,000. I for one would love heading down to Omaha for a UND weekend. The Qwest Center is world class and the Old Market is GREAT!!

I know the Final 5 has been very successful at the X, but I can see the WCHA enticing UNO with a promise of a Final 5(6) in the future. Omaha has everything that St. Paul has to be a host. Great facility, plenty of hotel rooms, great restaurants and night life, plus the Omaha area is a sports crazy town that would help sell out the Final 5 every year. Also, most years you'll be able to GOLF in mid-March!!!

  14. Just an FYI for those of you that don't pay attention to the USHL. The Force opened up the USHL semifinals in Lincoln on Wednesday with a 4-1 victory. Blais has his boys peaking at the right time.

THey play the 2nd game in Lincoln tonight and the 3rd and 4th (if necessary) at the UP Center Saturday and Monday. Should be a great game if your in Fargo and looking for something to do tomorrow night.

  15. IMO, I'd actually make team USA the favorite. USA dominated long streches of the last game. They failed to account for the Russian winger breaking behind the defence. The US tried to run and gun with the Russian's and I don't think any team can play with the Russian's when its a back and forth game. If the US plays like they did agains Canada I think you'll see a 2-3 goal win for team usa.

FYI, Mattson does a great job on special teams. Both killing and on the powerplay, he's a stud.
