  1. First off the atmosphere will be great. In 2009 when USA played Russia the place was rocking!! Second, I'm hoping they add temporary bleachers in the north and south end that might add 500 seats...maybe. I'm hoping that there is some priority for Force Season ticket holders. Probably not, but you never know!

  2. Yeah, Charlie had a rough season last year. He broke his ankle in the spring of 2012 so he was slowed going into the season. Then he suffered a shoulder injury and once he came back from that, he injured his other shoulder. Too bad because that was a really important developmental year for him, and now this season is really crucial. Of interest, he was also a 2nd Round pick in the 2013 NAHL Draft, so I'm not sure if there's something to read between the lines there or not.

Just an FYI, Charlie did not make the 2013 Force roster. They introduced the team today at a season ticket holder party and he was not there.

  3. Unless my eyes deceived me last weekend, it certianly appeared that Gopher players have dyed their hair for the upcoming mite jamboree Final Five. That alone should be worthy of a sign mocking their team.

MafiaMan, don't insult my Termite team like that. We'd never do something so immature for our year end jamboree. Maybe the Gopher mom's will have signs hanging on the glass for their boys!!

  4. And won the fight.

It really fired up the Force bench!! We sit right behind the penalty box and all the guy were super pumped for Keaton!! Nick Oliver skated over, slammed his stick into the glass and yelled, "you kicked his a$$". The smiles on the Force bench were priceless. Keaton's going to be a player. He made a terrible pass up the middle of his defensive zone early in Friday's game, that IMO, could have rattled the confidence of a 15 year old. To his credit, he played a good game the rest of the way.

  5. Better than Captain Serious and Parise and even Stafford.......I dont think so....He will be a good pro though.

Wouldn't it be great if he is, then UND would have 3 of the top 10-20 players in the NHL!!

  6. The parallel that I don't like is that in 1997 there was an undisputed favorite heading into the Frozen Four, Michigan, and we all know how that went for them. In 1997 there wasn't a independent observer that wouldn't have put money on Michigan. This year I think it's the same thing. Unless your a fan of Michigan, UMD or Notre Dame, the money is going to be put down on the Sioux.

  7. I'm putting this in the hockey forum since it get's the most traffic.

I just wanted to pass this on to Bison fan's. The local youth hockey associations along with the Fargo Force and Dakota Medical Foundation are teaming up to raise money for two local kids and their families. Cameron Bye, a 6 year old boy and Eva Unger, an 8 year old girl both participate in hockey with Fargo All City Youth Hockey, and are both fighting cancer. Febrary 4th the Force are donating $1.50 for every ticket sold, and if they sell out they will donate $2.50 per ticket!! DMF has pledged to match any donations. There will also be a silent auction during the game. FYI, I'm pretty sure the Sioux are putting together some items for the auction.

Here is a link to some of the details:

  8. I particularly enjoyed the following post from lakes referring to him hanging out with the CEO of BWW's...

For the record the BWW's CEO is Sally Smith, a graduate of UND...

Not to ever defend Lakes, but I think he was referring to the local franchise owner. Sally Smith would have nothing to do with this decision to by 2200 tickets.

  9. Exactly. This is what will help UND being in the Big Sky. Pioneer conference had two 10-1 teams. None got in. A few other weaker conferences had good records, but obviously dont have a case at all

Like it or not it is a race to 7 D1 wins. That's why scheduling the UND-NDSU game has become so difficult. A sucessful FCS team needs to have one big $$$ game against a BCS team. So most year that's a loss. Then you are going to want to schedule a home "cupcake" D1 game start the race to 7. Hopefully you schedule that on your opener so a big crowd is guaranteed. Then you have a 8 game confrence schedule. Now that leaves one more game(most years), and both UND and NDSU want that as a home game, plus no matter how good or bad either team is odds are it going to be a close "pick 'em" type game. It's the combination of $$$ and getting to 7 wins that makes the nickle game hard to schedule.

  10. I'm sure this is wishful thinking, but I just found out that our Mite team will be playing a game at the Olympic rink on Saturday January 15th. Does anyone know who to contact to see if there are suits available for rent. I know this has a snowballs chance in hell, but I thought I'd check. Do I just call the REA ticket office, group tickets, or maybe someone on the board has a suite that they want to make some coin on? Thanks!!

  11. You mean the Gate City Bank Theatre. The hip thing to do is to keep the building name but sell the naming rights for what's inside i.e. Mall of America Field at the Metrodome.

There is still another piece left for the Metro Sports Foundation people. It sounds like they are very close to having Sanford sponsor the whole athletic complex/block. This will include Scheels Arena, the new Y/Sanford Sports Medicine, and the aquatic center that yet to be funded. With the Sanford and Scheels commitment the MSF can retire 2-3 million of debt and finally look to building the long awaited tournament center to the Scheels Arena. Us hockey families in Fargo are keeping our fingers crossed.

  12. Me Too. Its more than I can pull off right now( :silly: ) but that supprised me as well.

UND is very fortunate. Remember Ralph's gift wast the largest single gift to a university in the nation. At most universities $1-$5 million are a big as they come.

  13. According to the USD schedule, look for UND to be in an NDSU Tournament Sept 17-18 with the following teams :

    UND

    NDSU

    USD

    SDSU

    Tulsa

That was confirmed in today's Forum. Should be a good gauge for UND. I think NDSU still has 5 women from their NCAA tournament team in 2008.

  14. IMO, this is Bohl's last season, unless he gets his record and players under control. A new president isn't going to need much of an excuse to clean house if things don't get straightened out. It may come down to Taylor or Bohl going, and I'd put my money on the AD keeping his job.

I thought I should add this disclaimer. Not only am I a big Sioux hockey supporter, but a Bison FB season ticket holder.

  15. Why is there all this shock and horror? UND has known that NDSU and RFM had been in heavy negotiations since mid-January. Someone at UND should have been making a call to Heitkamp every week for the last 3 months to keep up on what was going down. Now if UND was getting updates from RFM and RFM told them not to worry then there is a serious ethical issue. We'll see how this all shakes out, but I sure hope UND gets their hockey games aired in the FM area.

  16. A 20 game suspension in hockey is the same as a two year suspension in football..................

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

I agree, no need to throw stones, I know no details. But I do know that our very own best offensive player is not eligible for spring ball and supposedlye on "very thin ice".

Um, actually 20 games is less than half of the 42 games this year, not including exhibition. So I think that 6 games in football would be equal.

  17. Plain and simple: play to your potential. It's been a few years since we've seen a Sioux team accomplish this seemingly simple task. Don't skate off the ice after being embarrassed in the NCAA tourney with something left in the tank. We've had some truly great individual talents wear the Sioux jersey this past decade, but that hasn't translated into truly great Sioux teams. I never viewed that as a problem, but after the way our past 3 seasons ended, I'm beginning to wonder if the blue chip status of our athletes has ever so slightly eroded the blue collar attitude of our program just enough to mean the difference between winning and losing in March and April. Please prove me wrong!

I think this team overacheived to some extent this year. Its tough to lean on freshmen and sophmores to provide most of your offensive production. Next year the senior and junior class should be able to increase the offensive spark that this team seemed to lack most of the year. Next year we have a bunch of guys with the potential to become 20+ goal scorers; Frattin, Malone, Gregiore, Hextall, and Kristo the most likely. I think that the 2010-2011 Sioux team will have one of it's deepest and most talented group as forwards we seen in a while. They may not have the super high end guy like Parise, Toews, Oshie, Bochinski, Stafford, Zajac, or Duncan, but this group may be better from top to bottom.

I don't think anyone can get down own this team for not playing to their potential. This team had a TON of heart and seemed to be the "blue collar" team we all love. In the NCAAs its one and done and a slow start, a hot goalie or a fluke bounce can ruin a season for anyone. Making one game a microcosim of the season is really unfair.

  18. You all realize that even with Ben's new contract at UNI, he's still only the 3rd highest paid coach in the MVC!! The guy at Creighton and the guy at Southern Illinois both make more than Ben's $450,000. We don't have and probably never will have the resources being kicked around for bball in the MVC, or the Horizon for that matter. Recruiting to Vermillion, Brookings, Fargo, and GF is not going to be easy and with all the DI schools that exist in the midwest, we aren't going to win many battles with the teams from either the Horizon or the MVC. I know SU likes being in the conference they're in for football but, truth be told, those schools are bball schools more than football schools. Being DI, we are going to have to choose which program we give our resources to. I don't think its going to be bball.

The SIU coach makes around $700K and Dana Altman at Creighton (he's been there for 15+ years) is making a little over $1M!!
