  1. What a ridiculous statement. The NCAA is against Native Americans? The NCAA is against schools using them as a mascots thats all.

You know what's racist? A bunch of white people in North Dakota taking the most discriminated group of people in our nations history and turning them into your schools mascot.

So a bunch of government employed, overpaid, liberal fatcats sitting in Indianapolis know what's best for Native Americans? Please. Next time I see you don't be skimping on the fries.

  2. If anyone listens to KFGO for a mere 30 seconds, you will quickly find out that it is a flaming liberal station. Believe me, personalties at KFGO like McFeeley, Joel Heitkamp, Jack Sunday and Sandy Buttweiler are so far left, that when they take calls, if you disagree with them or are remotley conservative, they will cut you off immediatley....especially if you want the logo to stay.....plus KFGO now has the broadcast rights to NDSU sports so if you think they don't want the Fighting Sioux nickname to go away you are sadley mistaken.

  3. Fair enough. I will give you 2. Brianna Flynn and Amber Schaack.

I would also throw in Ashley Becker from Grand Forks, Haley Walsh from West Fargo and Allie Thomas from South.....plus there is a boatlaod of sophomores that are very good.

  4. Were you at every game in the state last year? How do you know how many games the coaches were at? I guess as a coach I focus more on where I know I am going to get the recruits from right now. Fabian was just at a tourney with some of those kids recently, does that count or not? I think you perceive things being slighted because you have a vested interest in some of these kids. Nothing wrong with that, but maybe your perception isn't right, unless you follow the coaches everywhere.

Of course I wasn't at every game last year and I have no vested interest and I my perception may be way off as I pointed out earlier. But the girls hockey world in North Dakota is so small that if any of the Sioux coaches were at any regular season high school girls hockey games.....believe me those folks would know.

  5. Just sayin, North Dakota high school girls hockey is not as good. Sure there are good players, but as someone else pointed out, you don't compete with the Duluth's, Wisconsin's and Minnesota's of the world with "good".

I don't disagree. If you are The University of North Dakota you have to get the best available kids and those kids are from Minnesota and Canada. What I am saying is that you have to have at the very least a "presence" in the state. That may have different meanings to different people. To me it means, that you should as a head coach, have an assistant (or the head coach) at a game or two every year. I'm just saying that the girls in the state need a sign, or some sort of hope that they can strive for. Anything to keep kids in the state to keep coming out for hockey and growing the numbers in the youth ranks so that someday North Dakota will be recruiting grounds for colleges.

  6. I do not know why you are getting down so much on UND, As I recall when Minnesota State first went D1 in the mid 90's UND was one the few WCHA schools that scheduled Mankato. Where was Minnesota when they first went D 1. I was a Puple Cow season ticket holder then and it also seens to me that some of the biggest crowds at the Midwest Wireless Center (Verizon) were when UND played there.

Excellent point. UND has always reciprocated. For years Minnesota would never play Bemidji State until they were admitted into the WCHA and were forced to play them due to scheduling.

  7. Curious why you would say Idalski overlooks North Dakota girls? Don't they have two on their roster (not counting Lamoureuxs) in Parizek and Berg that saw plenty of playing time? And one from East Grand...Sure seems he his giving local talent a fair shake to me.

Kayla Berg, from Fargo North, is a walk-on and Parizek is from Minot but played for the Minnesota Crunch in Grand Rapids her senior when they were an organization. They are both complete studs and deserve their spots on the Sioux roster. Leah Jensen is a heck of player as well but, when recruited had

an advantage because she is from Minnesota. Just sayin.

  8. Lost to Minn Seniors 5-3,lost to Wisconsin 5-2,beat Northern Plains 12-0,and lost twice to Minn U18 9-1 and 9-0. Girls were missing probably 5 of the better players in the state and our state needs everyone to compete although they did compete even with the U18 team.

Reguardless the outocmes, North Dakota high school girls hockey has come a long way in the past 5 years. Kids are starting to get looks from all over the country. As hockey fans, we need to support any and ALL girls programs in the state to keep those programs going......and yes there are several girls that deserve attention from Division 1 coaches. The caliber is there.......it just takes one coach to give a kid a shot. I understand that North Dakota high school

girls hockey is not the caliber of Minnesota. No doubt about it. It doesn't mean that those division 1 talented players don't exist.

  9. Nice to see assistant womens coach Fabian down here in Plymouth checking out Team North Dakota and the other 4 teams here. Scouts from everywhere in the the country especially on the boys side. Even coach Sandelin is here doing his own scouting with many other assistant coaches from different teams.

How did Team North Dakota do on the girls side? Scores?

  10. Only three teams have ever won a D1 championship: UMD, UM, UW. UND needs to compete with these schools for recruits if they want to be the fourth.

She was the leading scorer on a team last summer that went out to Vermont that did very well and included the Marvin girls and Gardner. All current (and deservedly so I might add) UND recruits.

  11. She was planning on a DIII in Wisconsin before MSU-Mankato came along. That speaks for itself.

I would submit to you that River Falls could beat most D-1 schools (other than the yearly powers) plus River Falls has has fantastic facilities.

  12. You can't get everybody. She might have liked the campus, the educational choices and being further away from Mom and Dad. We have a lot of talented kids coming in, so I am not worried.

I guess I should have said that she was never recruited by UND. I agree that talented kids are coming in but it is very important as well to have a presence in the state as far as recruiting goes even if you don't sign kids.

  13. Any talk about Lindsay Nagel? She just scored four goals for Fargo South to lead them to a championship and a perfect season.

She is going to Mankato State. UND missed bigtime on her. Heck of a player.

  14. The five that haven't played at all yet are Shelby Amsley-Benzie, Shannon Kaiser, Leah Jensen, Layla Marvin, and Josie Johnson.

Of these five girls I can tell you that Leah Jensen and Shelby Amsley-Benzie are the real deal. My girls played with both of them and not only are they great players but they are great kids too. Leah Jensen goes not stop. She can either finesse you to death or out muscle you in the corners. Shelby Amsley-Benzie is like a concrete wall. Nothing gets by her and she never, ever gets rattled.

  15. They will develop under Idalski's rigorous college regimen, a much higher-quality practice competition and elite game competition. If they are coming in "good" then I am sure they will leave "great." In the past 25 years, I have seen my share of men's recruits who've come in quite shaky and left as solid pro prospects.

No doubt....I have too. I guess my question is do the twins get frustrated playing with all that talent at international events and then come back to play with less talented players?

  16. From Brad's blog we have these kids coming in:

Michelle Karvinen, F (Olympian and will immediately be a top-20 player in all of NCAA, IMHO, next season)

Leah Jensen, F (Had 49 goals, Class A All-State team from EGF)

Layla Marvin, F (29-35-64 regular season, 2010&11 state champion Warroad, 7-2-9 in this year's tournament, Class A All-State team)

Lisa Marvin, F (25-44-69 led 2011 state champs as a sophomore, Class A All-State team)

Kayla Gardner, F (Also had 62 points for Warroad, Class A All-State team)

Shannon Kaiser, F (Had 39-19-58 for Crookston, Class A All-State team)

    Cecilia Ostberg, F

Josefine Jakobsen, F (I saw on the television broadcast UND/UM that she was leading the swedish elite league in goals and points)

    Marissa Salo, F (NAHA)

    Klara Myren, F/D

    Andrea Dalen, F/D

Sam Lashomb, D (Lost to Warroad in championship game, led her team as a defender with 25-28-53, Class A All-State team)

Shelby Amsley-Benzie, G (Still in the running for Ms. Goalie I believe, outstanding career numbers, Class A All-State team)

I don't feel like hunting the numbers down for the other euros but would be willing to bet that because of Idalski and Elander that they have stolen a few from Shannon Miller and Minnesota Duluth.

I know some of the girls that have played against some of these girls and I gotta tell ya that they are good.....but not great. I have seen them play. Every time they have played them they have either beat them or tied them. Shelby Amsley-Benzi is the real deal though. Tough goaltender. Leah Jensen is the real deal too. She goes not-stop. The Marvin girls I am not so sure.Good players but not outstanding. Kayla Gardner can be good and has an absolutley wicked wrist shot. The Salo kid I really haven't seen play. The Kaiser girl too is good but not great. In my opinion, since we have gotten the twins, you have to compare any recruits coming in to them because they have set the standard. IMHO, these girls are not even close to the Lamarouux's. Now that is not to say that they won'thave great careers at UND.
