I was at a Blueline luncheon in Grand Forks a few years ago and Dean Blais was talking. Someone in the audience asked him if NDSU would add Hockey since they are in DI sports now. Dean laughed and said NDSU made the dumbest decision to go DI and they will be broke in 5 years because of it. I wonder if Deano thinks UND will be broke in 5 years.
I think he should stick to coaching hockey.

That is the glorified D2 football that UND and NDSU have chosen to participate in. Overall better than D2 and with much more promise to stay better than what the future seems to hold for D2 football. Only exists for football. Other sports will be D1 (the real D1).
NDSU is and UND will be I-AA not 1-AA, first lesson in DI syntax

Uh-uh.
No.
Not even a good try.
DI is DI is DI, or you'll have to discount any sniff of a wrestling title because fewer than 100 schools wrestle at the DI level, right?
Let me know when college hockey gets exciting and then we talk.

Share the sentiments of this board. Want the move, not crazy about extending an already long transition period. However, most everyone would agree it would be good to have more concreate financing ready. Also is probably at least part PR to be extra deliberate, in contrast to how NDSU's move was seen by critics.
Please explain?

Welcome to I-AA for Football

Do you really believe that the potential loss of the NDUS Chancellor has no bearing on UND or is of no interest to a UND messageboard?
Nice try...
Thank you for your interest in NDSU
-
Funny you keep mentioning UND, but the article never mentioned UND or any other colleges in North Daktoa.
I guess theres a disagreement between NDSU and someone else UND must be involved somehow.
Funny!, NDSU is being talked about on a UND messageboard.

Even so, UND (and RT) were willing to play 'SU - if 'SU would come up to GF to play the game. 'SU didn't like that because they had played in GF the year before, so decided to pass.
Where did you get this information? just curious.
The story going around at the time was NDSU offered a 4 year home and home and UND refused.
-
So then why waste so much energy crying about how the mean old NCC schools refused to schedule poor little NDSU?
I have no problem with the NCC and who they play!
-
NDSU got exactly what they deserved when nobody in the NCC would play them.
A pretty decent schedule!
-
Really? Dang.
And here I thought UND was up seven DI titles to zero.
Must be the math.
Were all the hockey championships DI?
Division classification wasn't started until the 1970's.

Portland St. and Sac. St. are two wrenches in the works that can't be overcome in the near term for a Sky invite, IMO.
Won't Terry Wanless, AD at Sac St help UND get into the Big Sky more than hurt.
-
So what happened? Despite all of the assurances I've heard about the big sky giving out invites today, the huge amount of media outlets saying this was incorrect prevaled? I don't get it? I thought it was a done deal. Guess we'll have to start the speculation for next october soon, huh?
There were 26 votes saying no teams would be added.
-
So the winner is: "No Action. No schools will be added."
Or at least until October.
Sounds to me they were studing the situation
Big Sky Conference leaders are developing a plan to look at adding a 10th member to the league.

Dont you have to be a fairly good student to attend Shattuck, just wondering.

To travel and play 60 games, you need to be a good student.
-
And I am supposed to give a sh1t? Bottom line is that that conferences will be looking and right now NDSU is one of the hottest dates to the Prom......

A broad brush huh? How many articles have been about the Big sky in the forum in the last two weeks, how many interviews have been with Fullerton? The big sky doesn't even know if it will expand, and they get more attention from saying they might, than the mid con, which definitely is going to expand. You have to admit, there's a lot more attention on the big sky because of football than the mid con in Fargo.
The Forum does not equal all NDSU fans

My point was simply that if a team like NDSU that had not exactly been a powerhouse in D2 for quite some time could move up and compete immediately, then surely a team like UND that has been a national power in D2 in recent years should not have any more difficulty adjusting if and when they decide to move up. If UND could have competed rather well in 2004, why not in 2006 or 2007? How is moving up now going to be so much different than moving up two years ago. I fail to see the difference.
You must be confusing me with some one else, I think UND could compete now.
-
Would Terry Wanless, former UND AD, help in getting UND into the Big Sky?
-
I mean who wouldn't want to play one bball game in greely one night, and a game in Fargo the next. Just a quick, cheap, little hop.
I don't think in the past the Big Sky played basketball on consecutive nights. Mostly Thursday/Saturday, or Friday only. There would be a day of rest between Greely and Fargo.

NDSU's last 8 years in D2
Years qualifying for D2 playoffs : 2
Overall record in playoff games : 2-2
Total playoff games hosted : 0
UND's past 8 years
Years qualifying for D2 playoffs : 6
Overall record in playoff games : 11-5
Total playoff games hosted : 8
Nothing relative about it. UND has been much, much better in recent years than NDSU was their last 8 years in D2. The mere fact that you're now reduced to playing the "at least we took you to OT and kept the game close" card shows just how badly NDSU had regressed from their glory days of the '80s and early '90s.
...........
If it's so difficult to make the jump to that next level, then somebody please explain to me how a mediocre D2 program like NDSU could do it as easily as they did?
I agree, UND played the Bison better their last 8 years. Your point was that NDSU competed in I-AA in 2004. My point was that NDSU competed with UND in 2003, DII runner-up, the year prior to playing I-AA football. Not sure what the 2002 and prior, have to do with the progress from 2003 to the 2004 team. And yes, I believe UND could have competed rather well in I-AA in 2004.

Fun is relative to the participating person. I am just not into college hockey or name calling.![;)](https://forum.siouxsports.com/uploads/emoticons/default_wink.png)
The DII and College Division Championships by NDSU and UND were great, and were fun for each school.
I am glad you enjoy college hockey. I am not going to call you a loser because I like something else better.![;)](https://forum.siouxsports.com/uploads/emoticons/default_wink.png)
