  1. Being UND is going to play FCS football next year, the following site is a good place to find out about other FCS teams, and meet many of the fans. I'm sure it's been posted here before, but just a reminder for those that know about AGS. Also AGS has a weekly top 25 poll, and one of the requirements is the number of post on the messageboard prior to the start of voting. You are all welcome to come and visit when you have some free time from SiouxSports.com. There also is a Great West Conference board on the site.

  2. Looking for something to do this week, there is a Party in the Park in Neche. Fun & Games, Charity Auction, Golf Tourney. Party is Thursday night 5:30 to 8:30, Golf is Friday. Speaker is Erv Inniger.

There is a 1990's basketball from Red Lake HS, signed by one of the great UND basketball teams, Scott Guldseth, David Robertson, etc and a UND football helmet signed by Dale Lennon in the silent auction.

Still some golf openings, see the link for contact info.

  3. I disagree.... leopards can't change their spots....? I will be surprised if he lasts the year.

Cris Carter changed his spots from Philly to the Vikings. Carter was a lot farther down the ladder than Moss. If Moss wants to change he can, otherwise...........

  4. Alcohol is responsible for as many, if not more deaths as firearms.

    Link

In 2004, 21 percent of the children age 14 and younger who were killed in motor vehicle crashes were killed in alcohol-related crashes

An estimated 248,000 people were injured in crashes where police reported that alcohol was present

  5. Southern Utah, huh.

I'll be paying attention to that game.

I would expect you guys to be competitive, and most likely win that game. Just don't beat them worse than NDSU.

I expect UND to win that game rather handily. They won't be able to stop the midwest boys from moving up and down the field.

  6. But I'm actually gonna go with Jerry Olson. I feel that the 70's were the glory years of Sioux football. He won alot of games, including bowl games, and did it against some pretty stiff competition like Montana, Montana St., Northern Iowa, UNLV, Cal Poly, and others.

I have a 1972 Program from the Camelia Bowl, I think it's UND vs Cal Poly. Did the Sioux win that game? I remember watching it on TV when I was very very young. :D

  7. Staying D2 and moving to the MIAC (a better geographical fit and they have money problems) Please ignore the bison idiots

St John's would have some competition then in the DIII MIAC.

The DII MIAA might be a better fit with Pitt St, Directional Missouri teams etc. :silly:

  8. Estevan, Sask won the PWB bracket - I don't remember who they played, but it ended up in 2 OTs. Estevan beat my son's team in the 3rd round - they had some big kids! I could swear two of them were at least 6ft tall!

Reminds me of a little league game we had with a Winnipeg team one time. They all seemed 6' tall and had 5 O'Clock shadows.

  9. It can be, but luckily for me he's a thick-skinned kid. He doesn't get too high when he plays well and doesn't get too low when he has an off game. That makes it a lot easier to just roll with the punches and not take it too seriously. The wins and losses don't mean all that much yet. At this age it's more about developing skills and having fun.

Funny thing is my middle boy who enters his 1st year of Squirts next year has decided he's going to be a goalie too just like his brother. That leaves us with only one kid who might be able to score some goals. The two older boys tease me that they're going to make their little brother be a goalie too. ;)

    How did they do?

I was in Bismarck at the bouncey ball tourney

  10. That's been hashed through here far too many times.

The summary is: A brand new DI conference would not be BB autobid eligible until almost 2020, and the BB autobid is the tap into the BB television money.

Moving up the NCC to DI is not living in reality of the situation.

It was originally brought to the NCC table in 2002?

May have been autobid eligible by the 2015 range.

  11. The CWS is a big event, but NDSU won't get there anytime soon. I think I saw where the Bison lost 14-2 to Kansas State recently. K-State will probably finish last in the Big XII. More times than not UND has a chance at the Frozen Four. College hockey is big in the upper plains, northeast, and in the crappy city of Denver. Otherwise, baseball is the bigger college sport. Personally, I'd rather win in the less popular sport than field a poor team in a more popular sport.

Guess I was talking as a baseball fan vs hockey fan, not NDSU/UND. Sat thru 6 hockey games last weekend, looking forward to the baseball season now.

Good to see another UNO fan. :)

  12. Hmmm...to listen to many of the NDSU rubes, you'd think the papers would be falling all over themselves publishing college baseball stuff, after all it's much, much more popular than hockey could ever be. What a joke.

I've been to 8 college baseball World Series. The college World Series takes up two weeks on ESPN.

I'll take the CWS over the many college hockey tourney's and Stanley Cup finals I've been to.

  13. There will be next year when UND moves up! Remember, -AA is FOR FOOTBALL ONLY! Not basketball or baseball or volleyball or any other sports! They are all 1-A.

There is no I-AA or I-A in football anymore either, now it's FBS or FCS football, all Division I.

    FBS - Football Bowl Subdivision

    FCS - Football Championship Subdivision

All other sports are Division I.

  14. At the youth level it is huge in Fargo. If you don't have kids in youth hockey you wouldn't understand. Again, the world's biggest Squirts tournament would not be held in a non-hockey town. It's as simple as that. Perhaps you aren't as in touch with this particular subject as I am, that's fine. Just don't try to tell me I'm wrong about something that I happen to be very deep into with first-hand knowledge. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Fargo is on the same level as Grand Forks in youth hockey. Just because NDSU isn't a hockey school doesn't make Fargo not a hockey town. North and West Fargo may not be hockey schools, but South most definitely is. They are also very big on football, I'll give you that. I think it is fair to say football and hockey are 1 and 1A at South.

I've had kids in youth hockey, you have the fever bad. This has nothing to do with NDSU not having hockey. Fargo may be at the same level as Grand Forks in youth hockey, but Fargo has a larger population.

  15. You would lose that bet. I happen to have two kids between the ages of 8 and 12, so I know what I'm talking about. Not only would hockey beat soccer, but it would be a 10 to 1 ratio at least. If Fargo wasn't a hockey town they wouldn't host the world's biggest Squirts tournament every year.

Fargo also hosted the world fastpitch softball championship, maybe Fargo is a softball town. :silly:

Start polling the kids of Fargo DaveK, you would loose. Unless of course you are polling kids 8-12 that already play hockey. My cousin has 3 kids that play soccer. Take a step back from the hockey culture and take an objective look at reality. Hockey is popular in Fargo, but Fargo is not a hockey town.

  16. Fargo is most definitely a hockey town. Ask the 8 to 12 year-olds in Fargo what sport they most like to play and the majority will say hockey.

Moorhead is a hockey town, but not Fargo. I will put money on it that if you ask all the 8-12 year-olds in Fargo, what sport they would like to play, they won't say hockey. Soccer would beat Hockey IMO.

  17. I stand by my "ESPN force feeds college hoops" statement. The reason that tournament is so popular is because it is so heavily promoted and marketed. Yes, some people would love it anyways even if it got no promotion whatsoever just like the college hockey tournament. But my point is that a lot of casual fans out there watch only what is heavily promoted by ESPN and other major media outlets. I understand CBS broadcasts the tournament, but ESPN spends the majority of SportsCenter covering college hoops this time of year. Basketball and hockey both have their hardcore fans that love the sport, but basketball also has the casual fans thanks to the sport being overhyped and overpromoted by American media.

College basketball was big back in the 1960's and before. When did ESPN start?

How many high school hockey teams were there in the 1960's? As an example the Minnesota High School basketball tourney started around the 1910's, High School hockey tourney started in 1945. Every school in St Paul used to have a hockey team, now there are not many left.

It has a lot to do with who played basketball, or was a basketball fan in high school. Usually leads to them being a fan of college basketball or hockey. A majority of the country doesn't have access to ice skating facilities, and a group of them won't have the money to participate. The only hockey most people ever see is on TV. There is a basketball court in practically every neighborhood in America.

  18. But if they think they have "moved on" I wish their fans would stop being so interested in what we're doing.

Some of us have relatives, friends, kids of friends and hometown athletes attending UND and yes participating in UND sports. I always wish them well when playing for UND.

Logistics aren't there to start a new rivalry, conference and schedule-wise.

  19. Congrats and best of luck to the Bison and the Jacks! :silly:

    Thanks

It's a big day for the Bison and Jacks!

Sioux and Coyotes have a great future ahead too in the Great West and beyond.

UCD and Poly are great schools to play.

  20. I agree that this competition will be extremely intriguing. It makes for an unusual situation, at least for UND, in that the offense is basically set (and stacked) at every position EXCEPT quarterback. My guess is that the depth chart you listed is accurate, if for no other reason than it follows seniority. However, as we saw last year with the running back depth chart, things can change rather quickly. I think Chappell was something like 5th last spring.

Any chance of Setness moving up on the chart?
