  1. so i guess in minnesota you have to pay to win games whoever has the most money is gonna win. Is that how it goes? the answer is no!!! everyone still plays the games every team still has to work to win you dont just win because you have alot of money

The private schools on that list distort the actuality of the problem. Private schools can assure parents of good athletes that their kids will be on a team with 19 other good kids. That amount of talent will bring sucess more often than not. There seems to be a relationship between money and skills, however you just can't put a finger on it. It just seems like a lot of the richer kids are good at hockey. Why that is, I am not sure. So when those rich kids go to the rich kids school, RR, the team becomes a lot better than if those same kids were divided between both schools. The sports that were mentioned earlier, tennis, golf, and hockey are sports that money seems to be a factor, so I am not suprised that RR is dominating nowdays.

  2. As much as I enjoy fishing Stromer...I will reveal the fact that I am a little upset with a few antics that "some" posters have pulled on this board...my inability to control my own emotions regarding this argument over Porter's undeniable skill have caused to to flame a bit on this topic...so I apologize, but so should you for being out of loop on this argument and instead questioning the validity of posters on this free speech, wonderfully run website message board.... :D:D;) thoughts

I am not questioning why you posted, I am in fact a big supporter of free speech. I just find it a little odd that this is the topic so many people felt moved by to start their first posts in. As long as you can prove it's 4 seperate people and not 1 person with multiple personalities, I am game. :p

    Carry on!

  3. Even tho i am very pro RR and all Grand Forks teams, i see only one Gf team in state this year and its RR. they will continue there streak of being in a state hockey ever since they have been a school. Very impressive. I look forward to RR vs. Dl they both have played each other tough and i think RR will have the advantage as there top lines will be well rested and plus they are used to playing in purper. that makes a big difference. I have been very anti DL this whole year and now i believe they will be in state this year. will it be the first time for them??

They made it last year. They led South after the 1st but then South came out ready to play after that.

  4. Sorry.... :D

This is a great internet feed. Pretty clear and everything. The guy doing the play by play is pretty good as well. Pretty excited, and not a homer at all.

He is pretty good, although during hockey he doesn't always know who scored right away. He is better in basketball games. I think he got the ND sportscaster of the year award last year. Anyways, I enjoy listening to their broadcasts.

  5. I think that Coach Jones has a done a good job to date and do think that things will improve with the Men's team. With that said the transition will be tough and Sioux fans need to be prepared for that. NDSU has shown some success, but if you look at the latest RPI, two other former NCC teams are not faring so well. Of the 336 teams, Northern Colorado is #336 and SDSU is #326. The fans may need to have some patience.

Do you think that having hockey will help or hurt the fans patience. In a place like NDSU with no other winter sports, basketball is the only thing to follow in winter. If you progress slowly, like SDSU and UNC, I can see the fans becoming restless. AT UND, however, hockey is bigger than basketball. With the attention placed on hockey and not bball, will the fans be more apt to give the program time to adjust? Or will they become even more in love with hockey thus leaving basketball to suffer in the long run? I would like to say it will be the first option, but I am not sure.

  6. Personally, I think that when the NCAA compiles attendance numbers, only regular season games should count. The playoffs are a completely different animal, between the Thanksgiving holiday, short time periods in which to sell tickets, potentially playing a team for a second time, etc. Look at Grand Valley's situation, as well. They averaged something like 11,800 for the regular season, and then hosted three playoff games which drew between 4100 and 5200 each. I just think it's ridiculous to penalize a team because they happened to host a playoff game or two.

    Totally agree.

  7. Sioux fans have not done real well at stuffing the ballot box for any of the three listed.

Well considering by the time Duncan was added to the list, the leaders had like 13,000 votes and the person in tenth had 5,500. Now Duncan is in tenth with 7,000 and that same person who was in tenth has gained about a 1,000 votes. So I think the fans are doing alright. I know I try to give him 400 votes a day.

Also the site is confusing but I think I read that they will take the top 10 finishers online and put them in a final vote. Or maybe it said they will take the top 10 overall and put them back up to vote on. Regardless, some of those people leading the list get 3 to 4,000 votes a day!

  8. If they continue to make improvements like they did this year, the fans will come back. As they keep winning it will draw fans in. During the transition, playing good teams on the road close will even draw more fans to home games. I think there is only an upside to the mens program for the future.

  9. Actually, it was 73 seconds. You guys have by far the more talented club. Now that we're done with you for the season, I'll be pulling for you the rest of the way.

We will do likewise, as long as you don't come back up here for the first round. I don't care who we play as long as it aint you or UW. I love to watch the series but I would rather not let you have the chance to finish what you almost did last year.

  10. And do we have 23 points or 22 points?? I'm confused... I'm sure I could look it up, but sleep sounds like more fun right now

Play hard and keep winning and everything else will fall into place

We have 23. Those were the standings before tonight.

    Updated Standings

    1. U of M 33

    2. SCSU 29

    3. DU 27 *

    4. CC 26

    5. UND 23

    6. UW 21

    6. Tech 21 *

    8. MSU 19 *

    9. AA 15 *

    10. UMD 14

*= played 24 games vs. 22 for everyone else

  11. Seriously though, I tuned in with about 2 minutes left in the game. The Mavs scored two goals in that time period. It reminded me of a game a few years back against Northeastern in Boston. We had a 3 goal lead in that game (I believe we lost to BC the night before) and then it was 3-1, 3-2, 3-3... tie. Collapse complete.

I'm glad you didn't tune in any earlier....
