  1. No, this is not a rumor. It's done deal. The game is on Sept. 22 and NDSU gets $200,000. It's worth noting that Central Michigan won both the MAC championship and the Motor City Bowl last year. Another quality opponent for the Bison.

Do you need any more proof that NDSU wants 2 FBS games per year more than it wants a game with UND?

Well it was a rumor until it got announced late today. It doesn't sound like everyone over there is totally onboard with another away game. CM is def a quality opponent but you still need another home game.

P.S. I hope we don't play you until 2009. I can wait until everyone is settled and the field is fair so that there can be no complaining by either fan base that the game hurt their team.

  2. Hmm, afraid they'll lose, eh? Let's see, last year when NDSU needed to fill out the last game on its schedule, rather than schedule UND, which also had an open date, they scheduled a Big Ten team. This year who was the first team NDSU tried to schedule when Montana State canceled its scheduled game at the FargoDome? That would be Appalachian State the 2-time defending DIAA champions. What other possiblities are there instead of UND this year? Well, one is WAC and D1 FBS member the University of Nevada.

Yeah, you're right NDSU is obviously terrified of losing to a DII team.

Now while I agree with you, Gothmog, on the fact that NDSU is not scared to play anyone, there is a difference in scheduling UND or a FBS or FCS team. If NDSU loses to a top ranked FCS team, people say well they lost to a very good team. If they lose to a FBS team, people say they were supposed tog et beat. If they lose to UND, all hell break lose. There is a risk to scheduling UND but I don't think that what's holding them totally back from adding the Sioux on the schedule.

  3. Congrats to the DL hockey team for their great season. 3rd place in the state is nothing to scoff at. They played a good tourney, beating a Grafton team that they came close to beating twice during the season, and giving a solid effort against RR. Groves really had a coming out party and showed he is solid. Anyways, it was a pretty good season by a team who people doubted because they played in the west last year. Hopefully it won't be another 26-27 years before they make it to the semifinals again. :D

  4. They were a lot better and in better areas as well. ???

Plymouth now has indoor soccer to fill the weekend days the OHL team is not playing.

Wayne State was hoping to build a rink or their own near campus. I don't want to go to downtown Detroit. I don't like where their at now.

Thats too bad that they can't get in a nicer, smaller arena. I hope they can keep their program going cause hockey needs all of them they can get.

  5. The place is one of the worst places to play hockey. Seats about 5,000, yet the nearest seats are 25 feet from the ice. Been to many games where the att is 320+, but only more like 125 total in the crowd.

If they only draw 320, why did they move back from those 2 other arenas they played at? They look a bit nicer than the fairgrounds does.

  6. With the weather today, what's the best way to find out if the games are postponed? Some basketball tournament games in Fargo today have already been postponed to Monday, and from the forecast last night there was supposed to be more snow in Grand Forks...

I thought GF wasn't supposed to get a lot of snow. I heard Fargo and Minneosta were supposed to get more. Anyways, I highly doubt they will be postponed sicne it isn't bad here at all.

  7. Apparently 50% of NDSU fans don't miss the rivalry and don't want to see it resumed. You'd think that a few of those fans are also from "around here."

I'm also a native North Dakotan and I agree with NDSU Fan, both schools are better off without the hatred and animosity generated by this poisonous athletic rivalry.

And what made this rivalry so poisonous? It has always been a good rivalry but this break has elevated it to the madness setting. Instead of seeing who is better on the field and then taunting the other team for a year, we sit on boards like this one and debate who is the most evil, why we hate the other, who is a coward, and how many babies the other teams posters eat. It isn't healthy to be obsessed like this, yet both sides are. If we could just play and get a result, the attention could be taken away from the negative actions of both institutions and the focus would be back on athletics. By the way, I don't think we schedule NDSU until we are fully funded and are a counter towards NDSU. That way both teams are even and it will not hurt the chances of NDSU making the playoffs. After resuming, the rivalry should be an every year occurance. Its a joke not to have a in state rivalry, an even bigger joke when this rivalry was one of the longest in the nation. This thing started out like Michigan-Michigan St., its a rivalry but not a lot of hatred. When resumed, I don't think another rivalry can compare to the amount of hatred held by both of these teams fans.

  8. Nice post puck. At least there are a few decent ones on here. All the teams play hard. Good luck to all the teams going forward in the tournament.

I agree with most of this but not so much with the DL stuff. While the shots on goal were pretty similar, many of them were not quality scoring chances. Groves made some good saves but you never got the impression that Bismarck was a threat to score. They had an open net one time and the puck almost went in, but that was as close as they came. DL, on the other hand, had a lot of shorthanded opportunities and cycled the puck really well. I think the score was indicative of how the teams played. I was very suprised that Bismarck was the top team from the west and I hope DL can keep it going and finally knock off RR.
