  1. Parise with goal number 40 tonight. Scored like 20 seconds into the game . . . okay nhl.com says 18 seconds.

So he now needs 10 more goals in 15 games (knock on wood) do you think he will do it??

I think he will (again knock on wood)!!!!!!!!!

  2. WHile our style can often be frustrating, I do not believe that it is incongruous with a national championship.

We play race horse hockey when other teams do too. We do very well when we carry the puck into the offensive zone with numbers and speed. THe key to the teams you are describing is not the overall philosophy, but the ability to put passes cleanly on the tape. This affects the PP, the ability to transition, the breakout...passes have got to be short, fast and on the tape. THis time of year it is huge. The key to those teams you are taling about is a defenseman or two who could really move the puck...Chay and Marto can skate, but Carle, Ballard, Martin, Leopold...those guys could really move that puck.

Dump and chase to cycle is stupid unless you are working on grinding down some dmen. The idea is that your forwards forecheck the defensemen religiously, 3 d pairs, 4 forward lines, forwards wear 'em down and win the third period. I don't agree with it, but it has worked.

I have stated that our chink in the armor is at the blueline; bad passes and hesitation leads to shorties. I attribute the abundance of shorties against us to poor play on the offensive blue line. As stated by me a million times, you live by the Chay, you die by the Chay...Genoway is gifted and I am glad he is on our team, that being said he will cough up the puck on occassion looking to make something happen, and that will result in odd mans and breakaways the other direction.

I agree, playing more of a dump and chase / cycle style of hockey does not mean we can not compete with teams that play with crisp passing and circling... Firstly UND doesnt always dump and chase for a cycle, thay do carry the puck when it seems advantageous to do so and they are very good at doing it, they can create very good chances with both offensive options and having the versatility of doing both and doing them well is GREAT. Secondly, you would notice a lot of NHL teams play a dump and chase style of game and it does work well...

Both styles of play have their pros and cons, it really depends on who plays THEIR STYLE OF HOCKEY and who plays it BETTER come game day!!! Any team can have an unstopable system but unless they use it properly during the game it means nothing, and when the pressure mounts as playoffs start we will see which teams have the discipline, focus and determination to play hard and smart hockey... and from what we have seen in 09 the Sioux seem to know how to play under pressure :whistling:

  3. Eaves is at it again, going back on his word and taking scholarships away from players he promised them to. I hope karma comes back to bite his azz sometime. I don't like when teams do it and they SURELY don't like it when players leave early or pull a Clarke and go to the Canadian Junior ranks.

    hmmmmmm

    http://www.westerncollegehockeyblog.com/

Yeah that is weak for a coach/program to do that to a kid, i also hope he gets what he deserves after pulling this (numerous times apparently)

Eaves should learn from DU and coach Gwoz as he gave David Carle his hockey scolarship even though he cant play hockey ever again because of his medical condition. As much as i dislike the Dasher Dancer... he did the right thing by doing this, good for him.

  4. BU is fast and skilled. Their top line is absolutely loaded; it is DOTesque skill wise. I've only seen two games, but they impressed. I don't know a thing about Michigan this year with the exception of they don't have the same scoring punch as last year.

    Thanks for the info

Well everybody should know, having a DOT calibre top line doesnt even get you to the Nat champ game...........this is good, shutting down one line can be a lot easier than shutting down 4 lines that can all score!!!

I am confident that the Sioux CAN play with anybody in college hockey (knock on wood) as long as they are prepared to WORK BLOODY HARD and play their style of game for 60 minutes.

  5. OK, it seems there is a common notion in this thread, everybody is s#!t scared of BU and Mich, i can't say anything as i havent seen any of these teams other than at the ice breaker when the Sioux played BU (and i bet BU has developed since then just like the Sioux have).

So what are the characteristics of these teams, what are their main strengths that seem to impress everybody, What is making everybody scared of Mich and why is everyone clearly picking BU as their favourite for Nat Champs?? :whistling: I am just curious thats all!

Maybe i might watch a BU and Mich game before regionals, just to get a sense of their style of play and their strengths and most importantly their weaknesses (yes all teams have them even BU)

Any info from anyone who has watched either team play, that would be great!!!

  6. ABSOLUTELY

All i can say is, i have had butterflys in my stomach for 2 weeks now, party nervousness, as the season is getting more and more important each week, but mainly excitement. this team is showing so much character and so much determination each week, i can only think of 2 games this year they have been out worked, which is a pretty good record for 18 games.

I am starting to have so much faith in the Sioux this year, i stayed as positive as i could during the worst times and just tried to wait out the storm, and finally when 2009 began we were all rewarded with absolutely superb Fighting Sioux Hockey.

I really do not know how to sum up this Sioux team, I can only give you 1 one word.....DETERMINATION !!!

I really believe that the Sioux are HUNGRY and really WANT to bring it all home this season, I think as they worked their way out of such a mess in the first half they really have come together as a team. Each of them really know their roles and know what has to be done, they are willing to leave it all on the ice to achieve their goal this season. With the disapointment of the last 4 seasons and the adversities they have overcome this season seem to have motivated this team to make sure they dont end up in the same position this year as they did the last 4 years. I think we could witness something special this year (knock on wood) and i cant wait for it all to unfold.

  7. O how i love a little Sioux vs Gopher rivalry in the morning, reading the last few pages has been great, lol

Anyway, what does the future PWR ranking look like for the Sioux, is there any possibility to move up a few places, maybe even get a #1 seed for regionals (knock on wood).

  8. I say that the Badgers come out and stun us Friday. Then Saturday, the Badgers get over-confident despite their reason swoon, and get hammered by the woken-up Sioux in front of a tense Sioux fan audience watching across the country. Denver gets an early 2 goal lead to make things really interesting with us in a 3-2 battle against UW late in the game.

NOPE, sorry but i do NOT see this happening at all!!!

I say the Sioux come out firing on all cylinders friday night, knowing if they win they have the cup, and taking it to the badgers with high intensity and solid effort from all players, the Sioux win and clinch the cup on friday. Then Saturday..... who knows... they could either take a relaxed approach into the game and save a little for the playoffs, or keep the ball rolling by coming out the same way they did friday.

Lets just hope for a minimum of 2 points this weekend!!!

GO SIOUX, The cup is right there you just have to reach out and GRAB IT!!!

    Weekly Wednesday update

UND coach Dave Hakstol said this afternoon that he's not sure whether Jason Gregoire will travel to Wisconsin. That decision will be made later on tonight and the team will leave Thursday by air.

Hakstol also said that David Toews is healthy and available for the weekend.

What happened to Gregoire? i am assuming it is an injury?

Also does anybody know how Miller is doing, rumour is he played hurt against CC, does anybody have more on these??

Any info would be great, Thanks!!

  10. i guess it is better if its at home with the fans but would still be cool to have it in madison for the sioux fans that will be there when the sioux win

MacNaughton Cup won't go to Madison

The WCHA said today that it is not planning to bring the MacNaughton Cup to Madison for UND's series with the Badgers this weekend.

UND could clinch at least a share of the Cup with one point and the Sioux will win it outright with two points.

Usually, teams only celebrate at home with it, although there is no direct policy.

If UND does win the Cup, it would likely be unveiled during the first-round playoff series, which is what the Sioux did in 2001. The Sioux were able to clinch the Cup at home in 2004.

Yeah i read that, I think they should bring it to madison, if it doesnt go to madison does that mean it will go to Denver??

because by that logic it should go to denver, because they have a chance to win the cup, and thay are playing at home.

if it does go to denver, THAT IS BULL !@$!!!! they have a far less chance of winning than UND does (knock on wood)

who cares if it is in Madison, they should take the cup wherever the team most likely to win is playing, regardless if they are playing at home or away. if UND was playing DU this weekend in Denver and the winner won the cup and UND won, they wouldnt hold onto the cup until next week when UND are playing at home to present it to them would they. i say BRING IT TO MADISON!!!

  11. Ssshhh, you do know that many current WCHA coaches lurk this message board looking for coaching insight from redwing77.

The last thing we want is for those coaches to find out the Hakstol secrets!

    :(

yeah i can imagine Don sitting at his computer all night looking for the secrets behind the Sioux second half success with steam coming from his ears :(

  12. Yeah, the Marine thing crossed my mind a couple of times over the last few years. A conversation I had with a former player gave me an indication that that is what is going on.

Care to elaborate?? :(, what did the former player say exactly, is there some top secret plan hak uses every year or something?

  13. OK, i have not really payed much attention to the whole Nickname issue and i have no idea what is currently happening with the Nickname. I didnt know where to put this exactly so i thought here was good. I have a few questions about this issue if anyone could help me out that would be great.

Firstly, What is the likelihood that UND will get to keep the Fighting Sioux Nickname and logo, i want an honest straight forward answer, is it looking good or does it look like the Fighting Sioux will not be around for to much longer?? :D

Secondly, Is it still an option that UND can keep the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo but just change uniform when they reach the NCAA's in any sport, i know this means that UND can not host any NCAA tournaments, but i think this is a small price to pay to be able to keep the Nickname and logo as it holds a lot of history and tradition??

Finally, What is curreently holding up the whole process, this issue has been going for a while now but it seems the whole debate is going nowhere, what is holding up the progress?? :(

If any of these questions could be answered i would really appreciate it, THANKS :)

  14. For me, i dont think there is any logical explination why. I have little... actually i really have no reason to be a Sioux fan, i SHOULD be a big fan or Rugby or Cricket or something, but my interest in local sports is miniscule. I really cant explain WHY i am such a big fan of the Sioux, i can explain how i became a sioux fan, but not WHY i am such a big sioux fan, i dont think anyone can really explain WHY, it is just something that happens and when the ball gets rolling there is no way of stopping it.

    GO SIOUX!!!

  15. I just exit RealPlayer and start the feed over through the GCI web site. About every minute or two

Yeah that worked, thanks, hopefully it doesnt come back.

o wait, it is back already, i will try again. i hope it isnt every few minutes :silly:
