  1. While I do like the new black jerseys and though I am not a huge fan of the regular "dazzle" jerseys (while I do like the design, I find the shinny material to high schoolish) I do have a problem of wearing the black jerseys at the Frozen Four. The biggest complaint I have is that black is not an official color of UND athletics and I am under the impression that you should never win a championship with an alternative look (would Duke ever play in the Final Four in their black uniforms....I think not). I also think it is unfortunate that UND athletics (especially football and hockey) has gradually moved itself away from UND green. The new logo has very little green in it and when watching hockey and football away games a passing observer would never assume green is our primary color or even a color of our team at all (the little green strips on the hockey jersey and the green helmet would be hard to distinguish from even a little bit of distance). It seems everyone loves when our team wears black whether it be it looks good or we win it quite often, but I think we need to take a step back and decide if we want to downplay UND green as much as we have, I think if we work with Nike extensively we can find a style and shade of green that can look as classy and stylish as the black uniforms do now, now don't get me wrong I am not saying get rid of black alternative jerseys because they do have a place in the "marking mix," but I don
  2. If I remember right when I was watching the regional tournament TV broadcast this past weekend and when they came back from a commercial they were showing West Regional merchandise and if I remember correctly the t-shirt they showed had the Sioux logo in full color....can any one confirm this?
  3. Trust me; there are several people in this world who can not afford all of these things they have. Debt in the US is on the rise and even a little shift in a family's income can cause it all come down like a house of cards because people are living on the edge with very little savings. Perception of status and great marketing is what drives these purchases, not necessarily out of need or even true want. But lenders will keep on lending until a major economic shift causes the whole system to fall like a house of cards on its own. Will it happen? I don't know, but it will be interesting. Secondly, I have also heard that the economic status of students not only affect high school sports. I have heard from more then once source that the students at RR can be less then pleasant in areas such as entitlement (I deserve an A) and overall attitudes (the movie Mean Girls, based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman). On the flip side I have heard Central is a more pleasant teaching experience (granted I don't know for sure, but it is what I hear) and I think much of it steams from social class. Middle and Upper-Middle classes are generally the worst as far as attitudes are concerned. I have had the pleasure of knowing people from all income levels very low to mega rich and have found the least and most advantaged to be some of the nicest and most sincere people I know. Of course there are several factors to include (such as family economic history) and there are also tons of great middle-class people (I know several). Finally take all my ideas with a grain of salt, but this is what I see and hear.
  4. It's pretty simple economics to where the money is going, $700 does not buy as much as it did even 5 years ago. Give a basic rate of inflation of 4% per year (for my calculations I will use 3% to keep price increases at a more believable level). $700 x 3% = $21 per year or over 5 years of $105 for a new adjusted FSC membership rate of $805, or I will be generous again and give a $5 discount for a new total of $800 per year. It is not only simple inflation that is forcing these benefits to be cut, but also other factors that are going on with in the university. First, as we all know the move to DI is not going to be a cheap endeavor, so money is going to have to come from all levels: alumni, students, fans, etc. Also transportation costs, as well all know, have risen in an unpredictable level in the past two years and you can not just teleport athletes to competition to save money. Also scholarships are a large part of the budget and the cost to attend the University is expanding beyond the cost of inflation due to what I think are several factors 1. energy costs, 2. decreased funding from the state, and 3. an inefficient state university system (this goes beyond North Dakota, but all over the USA, which is why you are seeing a growing participation in private Community Colleges all over the country). The powers that be at the FSC know that drastic increases of FSC membership costs will cause 1.outrage and 2. a reduced membership (I don't think there is a large enough market to turn over these costs to new members that want to join now but can not due to lack of supply). Also when the new Ralph opened, it brought several new members to the FSC, which in turned caused an increase in money that was not there before, thus they were more willing to spend it on things like socials, but now that money is expected and needed in other places. Finally, socials and other events like this are not cheap to run, the cost of planning, beverages, food, cleanup, staff, and other costs increase every year. So in the end I can see why things are taken away, and I understand why FSC members may be angry about it, because $1,000, $700, or even $500 is not small chunk of change to not want to get something of value for. But in the end, it is a 'donation' and I feel it should be treated as such.
  5. I will agree that SCSU's jerseys do have a unique maroon tint to them, plus they are also very cheap looking. I am sure many high schools ordered the same template from the catalog.
  6. Count me in for a lottery, have four boxes one for Seniors, one for Juniors, etc. Send out an email to everyone with what there status is, go in to the student government office, show the sheet, drop your name in the box. We draw names according the the %. And bam, you are done. I will take the Ticketmaster royalties now.
  7. Any one else wondering how much our student fees were used to pay for this system? Maybe we should just let CampusConnection handle the distribution, then at least we only have to throw money in one trash can and not two.
  8. Any one else think it is a little unfair to move the system back an hour, there are no doubt going to be TONS of people who just gave up and think they are going to try again another day. Plus how much time can someone give to sit and wait just to see if it is going to work again??
