  1. lol, so he was supposed to get the permission of his players over Christmas break? All of them? Or he should talk to perhaps the administration at UND to give them an opportunity to respond/make a counteroffer? My guess is he did the latter, and UND had nothing to come back with besides a handshake and well-wishes...anyone know differently? I don't know anyone who talks to their subordinates before making a decision. Yikes. you're acting like he snuck out the back door to avoid confrontation. Every single player moves on at the end of 4-5 years...this isn't a lifelong commitment. If they were all on campus and he didn't meet with them, I'd understand the weeping and gnashing of teeth, but really, what kind of whiner expects to be personally called for something like this? I didn't know football folks got so touchy...learn something new every day. Anyway boys...dry your tears, you'll find a new coach to blame for all your troubles soon.
  2. Spoken like someone who's never seen a substantial raise, or never been underpaid. I remember working an entry-level job when I was 21, and thinking I couldn't understand how anyone ever needed to earn more than 30K a year. In my thought, that gave you $1000/mo for rent/mortgage and still left you more than $1K a month for entertainment, food, etc...now I try to remember how I even bought groceries when that was my salary... but here's my thoughts: houses aren't THAT cheap in GF anymore. 3 kids are expensive no matter where you live, and 3 boys can eat a lot. IF you do much travelling (which anyone involved in recruiting does) you spend more just on eating, travelling sundries, etc than you realize...and 100K after taxes can go pretty quickly, I'm guessing, especially if you want to set anything aside for retirement, etc. I mean, how high on the hog are the Lennons living anyway? Does that salary buy a mansion in GF these days? Anyway, the thing I don't understand is the way people are reacting like it is a personal affront that someone takes a career boost and double+ salary...or that it is seen as an "integrity" issue. Coaches get recruited, and people take jobs where the compensation outweighs the losses. I don't understand the hurt feelings. $100K a year doesn't mean UND owned him, and $200K a year doesn't mean the Salukis own him...in the end, it's a job/career, not a marriage. There are no vows being broken here. I also wouldn't expect my boss or anyone else to call me over Christmas vacation to let me know they decided to take another job. I work in my position because again, the rewards outweigh the inconvenience of having to work, but also because I have a fabulous boss. If he left, I'd seriously consider finding a new position myself, since I like working for him more than I like my company. But I'm not his wife, I'm his employee. He doesn't owe me anything but a paycheck...and I'm quite certain if his pay were doubled elsewhere he'd be out the door before the ink dried on the new job offer, and his salary is already much higher than $200K...but why else do people work? for the joy of it alone? just my thoughts... It's strange to me to see some people around reacting like they are jilted lovers...
  3. well, actually, yes. for football, that's out of UND's price range, and will be for quite some time. and by the way, I believe the 200K is the base salary, not the "total package" at SIU...haven't read the contract myself of course, but I'm pretty sure that's correct...
  4. Well, do enjoy the fabulous coaching career you obviously enjoy with your superior wisdom and understanding. You may not agree with the decision to keep playing but games can turn around very quickly and teams with games "in hand" have gone home empty handed. as they say, it ain't over until the fat lady sings. I'd bet if he did leave, it wouldn't be that running back breathing a sigh of relief...but hey maybe you could take over the position. It would be nice to have someone who always made decisions that were undeniably perfect in every way as coach. It's important because if 90 wins in 8 years isn't enough to get any respect, nothing short of perfection will do. LA LA LA
  5. vote today. He's at #4. Happy b-day to Coach Lennon today. www.coachoftheyear.com
